In 2007, Hole gay drummer Patty Schemel went up to her friend P. David Ebersole with a bunch of Hi8 tapes she shot over her years with the band. Amazing footage of Hole members Eric Erlandson, Melissa Auf der Maur, late bassist Kristen Pfaff and Courtney Love, her husband Kurt Cobain and daughter Frances Bean. [...]

Brock Potucek ABBY TRAVIS IV Educational Recordings Abby Travis has been around forever, and this is finally the solo album she SHOULD have been doing for the last couple decades—a glam-themed rocker that lets her voice get full-on Sparks while the dueling licks and chiming harpsichords around her lift ever upward into a world of ROCK! Travis was in the Love Dolls in the 80s, and went on to play session bass with everybody from Beck to the Bangles to the Meat Puppets to KMFDM, yet [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , The Hit List MCA There are plenty of musicians who find the days of the week endlessly inspiring. The Beatles loved you for all eight days of them. Barenaked Ladies measured a fight in terms of one week. Loverboy sagely noted that we were all working for the weekend. Other musicians get even more specific, choosing to sing about one day in particular. Every day -- [...]

In the spring of 2009, the Bangles returned to the studio to begin work on a new album. The album is called Sweetheart of the Sun and was released on September 27, 2011. They are touring in support of it, with dates on the East Coast, Midwest, and West Coast. The three women who make up veteran LA garage-popsters The Bangles these days - Susanna Hoffs and sisters Vicki and Debbi Peterson - still wanna rock it out, garage style. The Bangles have a new release called " Sweetheart of the Sun " and they are touring this LP while playing the songs that fans remember from their 1980s heyday. Sorry for the absence of this here column last week; I got hit with an acute case of tonsillitis which definitely killed my Monday pretty badly. Felt like I was swallowing razorblades....but the good news is that it got me to the doctor to get some killer horse-pills to clear my junk up, so I [...]
During their initial run in the 1980s, The Bangles were labeled by some critics as a poor man's version of the Go-Go's. It seemed unfair to me. After all, hadn't their three albums – 1984's All Over the Place , 1986's Different Light and 1988's Everything – produced poppy, progressively commercial tracks such as "Hero Takes a Fall," "Walk Like an Egyptian" and "Eternal Flame"? And hadn't Prince himself been so impressed by "Hero" that he wrote the popular "Manic Monday" for the second album? The Bangles had their own sound; the only [...]
THE BANGLES, A FRAGILE TOMORROW ( Roseland , 8 NW 6th) The beloved Bangles recently appeared on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast—and they sounded FANTASTIC. Susanna Hoffs & Co. haven't lost a bit of their harmonious, sugary sounds. While their new songs from Sweetheart of the Sun are lovely, it's 1986's Different Light that'll get your hazy shade of nostalgia walking like an Egyptian. COURTNEY FERGUSON REAL ESTATE, BIG TROUBLES, CHARLES BERLITZ'S THE LITTLEST [...]

With their first album in eight years, the Bangles are back in a big way.

Today's topic: pop hits -- or songs that should have been. Katy Perry and Rihanna can rack up No. 1 singles in their sleep. Between them, they've had 16 in the last six years. But the leading ladies of pop haven't always had it so easy. Here are five of the most egregious examples currently in heavy rotation on my iPod. 1) Susanna Hoffs: "My Side of the Bed" Considering how hot the Bangles were in the late '80s, one might have expected the 1991 debut solo single from the band's lead singer to have [...]
