Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars Out of the ashes of Bare Wires comes Warm Soda , but this time around things are going to be glistening with pure pop. It's not like this wasn't lurking around the corner, but with Someone For You the band has created something that will inevitable find itself stuck in your head, and heart. Let's get the bad thing about this record out of the way, if you can even really find a fault [...]
A silly little video from the guys in Warm Soda I told you about yesterday . They have a new record on the way via Castle Face Records. Get ready for some sweet, light power pop.

Mixtape: Fourteen Songs about Love for Valentine's Day (Podcast #300) In case you've managed to avoid this news until now, February 14th is Valentine's Day, the greeting card industry holiday that can compel even the least romantic to confront the topic of love. Over the past few years, plenty of our favorite indie rockers have explored the excitement and complications of love in terrific songs. Here, we've collected fourteen tracks about love's many facets, including the swooning romanticism of Real Estate , Cass McCombs , and [...]
by Johnny Riggs THE CHAMBERMAIDS - Whirlpool Kinda like a shoegaze Calla. Lush & catchy. WILLIAM BASINSKI - The Disintegration Loops Box Some of my favorite decaying sadness from the last decade, now in one hugely-expensive vinyl LP set. 1,2,3 - Wave Pool From late 2011, but no one paid attention. Goddamn genius, with strings and '60s snot on it. BARE WIRES - Wanna Fight This came out on a [...]

Bare Wires - Idle Dreams Bare Wires - Psychic Wind The now-defunct Oaklander garage-pop trio Bare Wires was kind enough to release one leftover recording after their untimely demise last spring. What a bunch of sweethearts, huh? Recorded before the implosion, and then released posthumously just last month, Idle Hands became an unplanned swan song long player of sorts, chock full of hooky, lo-fi punk-influenced glam goodness and lotsa jangly rock 'n' roll chords and attitudes... And it's a pretty badass way to finally call it [...]

Bare Wires wasn't ever a band I cared for. So immersed in the idea that they were just a part of fun lovin' 'rock 'n' roll', they became more of a cover band than an actual band. Costumes, general attitude, "balls-to-the-walls" sound was all so finely aimed at imitating the glory days of glam rock, that it became just that, a hollow imitation that was good to look at for a moment, but in the long-run, well, empty. The band collapsed, quite dramatically if stories can be told, and Matthew Melton has moved on to Warm Soda, [...]

“school days are over, you’re getting older, just dream your life away, you’re better off this way.” Checkpoint Charlie or reality check on the new music video from Oakland's lo-fi Bare Wires, "School Days Are Over" is the most recent audio erection from Matthew Melton and its included on the upcoming LP Idle Dreams out 30 October on Southpaw Records.

I'm fortunate enough to premiere the new video for Oakland trashcan trio, Bare Wires . This new jam "School Days Are Over" considers the harsh reality that we are all getting older, getting jobs, etc.. But let's be honest, despite the slow riffage and mellow vocals, this video contains some serious babes and beach cruising. So it's not all serious and a great complement to your Monday morning haze. The video was directed by Daniel Hilsinger and comes off the Bare Wires' upcoming Southpaw Records release Idle Dreams . Pre-order the LP here [...]

Last year's SXSW festival resulted in one casualty that was the demise of San Francisco's 70's rockers Bare Wires . After one of their shows, the band's front man Matthew Melton stormed out of the venue and declared the Bare Wires era as officially being over. Luckily for fans of the band, there's one final LP, Idle Dreams ( pre-order ), that was recorded by Bare Wires and is slated to be released on October 30 from Southpaw Records Check out 'Impossible Things' from Idle Dreams above, [...]

Though sadly Bare Wires imploded in a disjointed run of dates at last year's SXSW, there remain a few bright spots in the story - namely that this final album survived the fray and that Matthew Melton has quickly picked up as Warm Soda in his previous band's wake. Idle Dreams runs through the many amplified stages that have marked the previous Bare Wires albums; exhaust-fueled heavy punkers, proto-glam stomp and tough chewed power pop. Over the past couple of years Bare Wires established themselves as a formidable force on record and on the road, devouring tour dates [...]

Oakland's Bare Wires may now be defunct, but before the group parted ways, they had time to record one last album: Idle Dreams . Due out October 30th via Southpaw Records, the 12-track LP is billed as frontman Matthew Melton's "final masterpiece" with the project. I don't normally pay much mind to press releases, but given the steady evolution in sound and recording quality from early release Artificial Clouds to last year's Cheap Perfume 10"—a steam-rolling leather-jacketed holy grail of glam, punk, and power-pop—"masterpiece" doesn't sound so far off base. Take a peep [...]

You'd think that in the wake of a massive public disintegration at SXSW that the members of Bare Wires would've seen the eerie neon light that pulses slowly at the heart of rock 'n' roll, packed their bags and faded in to the sunset. Rock 'n' roll is a drug though, and those afflicted with [...]
