F/i are one of those bands that changes everything for you. It is so druggy and so psychedelic it makes everything else "psychedelic" seem somewhat tame. And they're not just one of those space-rock clones who heard Space Ritual and purchased a bunch of delay pedals or an analog synthesizer. These guys experimented to the max, and the results are stunning. Their bursts of heavy, cosmic goodness are constantly wrestling with amplifier buzz and radio static and sundry other forces. If you want straight-ahead psych chug-a-lug, try Paradise Out Here . They formed in Wisconsin [...]
Are your brackets busted? This was the first year since I was a wee little one that I neglected to fill out an NCAA tournament bracket in advance. March Madness is only marginally interesting when there are no dramatic storylines or Cinderella teams. Two one-seeds and two two-seeds in the Final Four is about as captivating as the Patriots making the Super Bowl. With all this (one paragraph of) sports talk, I've probably lost my entire Sunday evening audience of sexually ambiguous, mildly anorexic, ironic-shirt-wearing, antisocial music snobs. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With [...]

Tribute albums are a terrible thing. Eberybody knows that. You get them because you like the band covered on it, and then you find out the cover versions suck. They do in most cases, anyway. Now, the Wire tribute entitled Whore seems to be somehow better; hey, it has a big name line-up: Band Of Susans, Lee Ranaldo (who seems to be keen of participating in tribute albums), My Bloody Valentine, Main and Bark Psychosis (with their cover version of Three Girls Rumba) are all on it. Indeed, although it's all not as exciting as the names would suggest at [...]
I'm sure you're all being slaves to the television and watching Academy Awards-related programming, but I have chosen to compile for you a new Mix Tape. Tomorrow you will be blessed with Episode 5 of The Best Podcast You Have , Circulations Amethyst. The title is "Vibrophile". I thought "Heroin Cheek" would've been funnier. Normally I don't pay any attention whatsoever to the names of these Mix Tapes. You could download them and conjure your own titles, for all I care. This week I received a nice comment from Tim in Cairo, Egypt, and after a couple [...]

“All Different Things" by Bark Psychosis which clocks in at 8:09 EAR FARM's 8+ is my weekly journey into music nerdom centering around one song longer than eight minutes. As I've said before, this is not only just for me to write and you to read. I welcome, and often directly invite, others to contribute to this feature. It helps bring to the table some songs you'd not otherwise see here and, most importantly, it opens up the 8+ so that we're getting more than just me here rambling on week in, [...]
