Black Tusk has a split 10-inch with ASG coming out soon. The split was produced by Phillip Cope of Kylesa, and the artwork is being done by John Baizley of Baroness. It will be called "Low Country," and will be released on Hyperrealist in all relevant formats (that means vinyl, CD, and digital). This is actually one of three Black Tusk splits announced this year, the other two with Holy Mountain
Baroness, done with Roadburn 2009, is finally going to Dallas, Texas to enter the studio next week after mercilessly teasing us every time we went on their myspace. New album 2009? "But when?" we cried. "Soon", they now say, stroking our faces as we wipe tears from our eyes. The album is being produced by John Congleton, who also produced The Roots, Explosions in the Sky, and Buddy Miles. No word

Time to catch up on some deserving efforts, on which I've been procrastinating for a couple of weeks now. Here's an assorted bag of musical sweets for your no-so-guilty consumption...... - 'Invaders Must Die' surfaced from The Prodigy a couple of months back and was generally overlooked, presumably as a relic of a forgotten electronic past. Well, bands like Late of the Pier and Hadouken! have been making a decent [...]

Well, bands like Late of the Pier and Hadouken! have been making a decent name for themselves playing sprawling electronica with aggressive beats, so if lead [...]
BARONESS will head to Dallas, TX next week to begin work on a brand new full-length and follow-up to 2007's critically-acclaimed Red Album. They will be working with roducer / engineer John Congleton (Explosions In The Sky, The Polyphonic Spree, The Roots). The album is expected to be released in the Fall. The epic IRON [...]
Neurosis's Scott Kelly has created an "extremely interactive blog that will be updated by the bands/artists throughout [Roadburn 2009]," according to his regular blog, "We Burn Through The Night." "Beyond the Pale" is a Neurosis-hosted event at the Roadburn fest that looks like it will be an almost religious experience. The lineup for Roadburn 2009 already looked awesome enough: Wolves in the
Prog-sludge crazies, Baroness, might be finishing their UK tour tonight in Brighton, but a few days ago in Sheffield, Thrash Hits snapper Gary Wolstenholme snuck up till he was close enough to make out every hair in John Baizley's magnificent beard, and got a few pictures of the band tearing The Corporation a new one. Leeds boys Red Stars Parade kicked off the night's proceedings. Their drummer, Kevin Reid, has a 'tache that's almost the equal of John Baizley's beard. Almost....but not quite. [...]

And honestly, there are worse [...]

Kylesa unveils artwork and new mp3 from forthcoming album, Static Tensions.
Before the year gets too far away from us, we thought we would take a look at some records scheduled for release in 2009. Below are a number of records that have our interests piqued for a variety of reasons... Baroness - TBA: Since the release of The Red Album, Baroness' popularity has soared. So where will the next album find the band, especially after this past year's line up change? We

This big ATL event seems to be off the radar, but luckily my metal insiders tipped me off. The line-up features pretty much every single band from the particular type of metal that I enjoy most, so I'm excited: Mastodon Neurosis High on Fire Boris 1349 Cryptopsy Torche Nachtmystium Wolves in the Throne Room Baroness Harvey Milk Kylesa Zoroaster Withered Krallice Toxic Holocaust Skeletonwitch Rwake A Storm of Light Warbringer Salome Suidakra Tyr [...]
So apparently, instead of taking the traditional route and advertising on TV, billboards, etc, Scion has decided to host music festivals instead as a means of promoting their brand. Strange? I thought so too, until I saw the lineup for their "Rock Fest." Holy mother of fuck, I don't care WHAT they're selling - any [...]
