Barry Adamson is in a weird position. After winning acclaim for the noir-cinematic atmospheres of solo projects such as Moss Side Story and the mash-up of Back To The Cat, writing songs for directors such as Danny Boyle, Oliver Stone and David Lynch, and composing film scores for Delusion and Out Of Depth, the 53-year-old [...]

Legends always need a companion to support their id. Whether it's Don Quixote's Sancho Panza or Sherlock's Dr Watson, our heroes of folklore need a trusted squire to fulfil their destinies. So it is with pop music; its revered stars gaining critical acclaim and getting name-dropped with aplomb while vying for an ATP curatorship, but rarely is it possible without a reliable buttress. This is Barry Adamson 's role, the smoke machine operator for David Copperfield's illusions, the shadow man of Magazine, Visage and The Bad Seeds. Yet it's through this patronage that Adamson [...]

As founding member of the '80s LA punk group The Gun Club, Jeffrey Lee Pierce helped inspired the likes of Jack White, Henry Rollins, No Age, and countless others. In 1996, Pierce died from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 37, and has since been honored with an all-star covers compilation, entitled The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project . Volume one in the series, We Are Only Riders , was released in 2009. As TwentyFourBit points out, volume two, The Journey Is Long , will arrive March 30th via Glitterhouse Records. Spanning some 18 tracks, this latest compilation [...]
Barry Adamson - Destination (Mush Remix)From his forthcoming 10th album I Will Set You Free (2/14/12 - Central Control)Barry Adamson

Barry Adamson has had a long and storied career in music, as a member of Magazine , The Bad Seeds , and as a solo artist. On February 14th he adds yet another chapter with the release of his tenth solo studio album I Will Set You Free . Adamson has accumulated many an influence over the years. His broad experiences lend themselves well, helping to create a unique musical montage. The album kicks off with "Get Your Mind Right", an amped up pop rock number that sounds like [...]

all photos by debi del grande When you work with bands like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Depeche Mode, you get a little recognition. KCRW knew this and booked Barry Adamson at the Hotel Cafe. Touring on his new album I Will Set You Free , this British rocker stood alone on the tiny stage belting out tunes in one of the smoothest voices I've heard in awhile. The set was too short—hopefully, he'll be back. —Debi Del Grande [...]

I didn't know what to expect from this Barry Adamson remix. Sometimes his stuff is brilliant, other times simply rather dull. This one is... confusing. Starts in an electronic rock vein, with goth eyeliner and terrible, cliched lyrics. Then it goes all happy clappy piano. Then jazz piano and finally back to electronic rock and the cycle starts again. Odd, but not in a good way. The Raincast is so called because we have had three days of sporadic, but at times absolutely torrential rain here in Edinburgh this week. The leak in our ceiling has sprung back into action with some vigour, although this time it manifested itself in a manner which didn't ruin all sorts of my vinyl, which was generous of it. We really must get that looked at before the whole bloody ceiling comes crashing down. The rest of my day will be spent sticking things into envelopes to publicise the Lach release, which is really, really soon, as well [...]

News International (I do not need to tell you) is one of the most repellent organisations in the world, but this whole business might just end up working out to their advantage, in a twist of supremely Machiavellian achievement. NI decided to close the News of the World a long time ago, as you can see from this Guardian article detailing the plans being set in place to deal with its disappearance, dating from weeks ago. The sunonsunday.com URL was registered before any of this even kicked off. As much of a [...]
Nick Cave's Grinderman will be releasing "Palaces Of Montezuma" as the third single from their Grinderman 2 record. It's most notable for the stellar line 'the spinal chord of JFK wrapped in Marilyn Monroe's negligee'. Included with the album version of the song will be remixes by Barry Adamson, and Cenzo Townshend. Their will also be a reworking of Grinderman's "When My Baby Comes" by Cat's

John Barry died today at the age of 77. Without him, the Sixties wouldn't have swung quite as bold or nearly as brassy. You don't need me to tell you of his work on 11 Bond films, or that his musical scores packed full of stabbing brass, sweeping orchestration and exotic leads (dulcimer! vibes!) often conjured up images of carefree playboys at the wheel of a Jaguar, speeding through the Swiss Alps with a Ray Ban-ed and mini-skirted female for company (although that sounds a lot like a spoof scene from Austin Powers , but you know what [...]
By Lommi NoirRidiculous Street Sucks…And I am in Exile. Trapped in the vile penumbra of NouveauVille and I don't even know if it's worse than eating shit in Cook County. I don't even care. It's all feels like a kind of slow, surreal Death Box Shuffle. A dance of the skulls. A little jig with the monkey on the grave of my life while the ghost gramophone plays "Nearer my God to Thee". A little song
