Barzin - Won't you come This song sounds like something off of an M. Ward album with that slide guitar and the old 1950's production sound. This sounds like the perfect song to listen to after a massive rift in your life and you are just sick of being yourself, and all the trouble that comes along with it. Everybody loves a good nap, am I right? Especially on Sunday afternoons. Here's a little mix to keep you company as you doze off. It's not too long, though, coz I find that I usually fall asleep by around the third song and then I don't get to hear the rest anyway. If you don't operate like that, then perhaps you can consider it a start to your own good, long sleep-inducing mix, OK? Sleep tight. Azure Ray -- "Sleep" mp3 off [...]

While doing a little cleaning recently, I came across a CD-R that a friend of mine in Richmond, Virginia sent me a number of years ago. It's a collection of 8-track demos by a local band called Salt Chunk Mary circa 1992/1993 which isn't especially remarkable in and of itself save for the fact that it was fronted by one Mark Linkous, who would go on to create the singularly sad and beautiful Sparklehorse . Information on the band is nigh impossible to find since they didn't really do much before morphing into the 'Horse and they [...]
Today we would like to humbly recommend a band whos soft sounds are nothing short of relaxing. And not in a soft rock kinda way, as you will not find catchy hooks within. But rather in a melodic and gentle tone, Barzin speaks to the listener. Tony Dekker, of Great Lake Swimmers, is a central contributor, but the pop sensibilites of GLS are a distant memory on My Life In Rooms. The sound boasts some consistent and well placed slide guitar througout in addition to some shoegazy percussion. While the vocals [...]
Funny, but I've known of Barzin for over two years, I think, and I'm pretty sure I haven't done a post on him, as of yet. He continually skips just below my radar, but that's not difficult to do... seeing how my radar is dusty and outdated... his latest creative effort is titled My Life In Rooms, a collection of songs which hits you like shadows, and yet somehow dazzles with the light casting
This morning I'm serving up three tracks from three realtievely unknown artists. Each artist and each track in the mix comes highly recommended by the genius at IRCWHQ. "Ten Dead Dogs" by Birmingham, Alabama's Wild Sweet Orange is a song that has taken over my sound system the last couple days. Admittedly, Birmingham is not one of the fanciest addresses for aspiring rockers. Don't let that dissuede you. In "Ten Dead Dogs" you'll hear traces of American roots music and nineties alternative rock, along side powerful and poignant [...]

Very pretty slowcore album. Barzin 's brand of slowcore sounds like familiar blues rock and alt.country, but the songs are so well executed it is memorable. Thinks of Barzin as Arab Strap meets Red House Painter. It radiates warmth without overstretching. Somebody is going to use Barzin's songs for an art house movie for sure. "Barzin began as a solo project in 1995 in Toronto, Canada, but has developed into a loose collective of musicians who regularly make appearances on both recordings and live performances. On " My Life In Rooms ", the follow up [...]
