Hosted by CBC Radio 3's Grant Lawrence, the event drew media and music-industry types to Toronto's Drake Hotel to find out which artists had made it past the first round of voting by the 198-member jury -- made up of music writers, broadcasters and bloggers from across [...]
A sit down with the two sisters behind Swedish phenomenon First Aid Kit reveals details about their childhood, rise to recognition, songwriting process, and notable influences. Though just 17 and 19, they show why youth is not an obstacle in achieving success. Their highly enjoyable vein of folk-pop speaks volumes on its own.

Toronto - Another week, another bunch of concerts to go to. Seriously, it's pretty pricey to be a music fan in Toronto. So many shows. Lets take a look at some bands coming. Brian Jonestown Massacre You never know what the hell to expect at a Brian Jonestown Massacre show. One thing for sure, Anton Newcombe will give you something to talk about. The band is back after a 5 year hiatus, to promote their new album Who Killed Sgt. Pepper? . Elephant Stone is opening, and they were really good [...]

The line-up for this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival has finally been an announced. I'm not gonna lie, I am a little disappointed. They have still managed to garner a big list of artists that I would love to see, I am pretty underwhelmed by the choice of headliners. While I have respect for the Eagles and can appreciate their past contributions to the music world, they are not the kind of band that I want to camp out in front of their stage in anticipation all weekend. In fact, if I am able to attend the festival this [...]
The 2010 Austin City Limits lineup was announced last night/this morning and it looks like The Eagles (really?), Muse, Phish, The Strokes, M.I.A., and The Flaming Lips are your headliners for the festival. A ton of other killer acts are on the bill including LCD Soundsystem, Spoon, The National, Vampire Weekend, The Black Keys, Yeasayer, Beach House, Gayngs, Gogol Bordello, Broken Bells, Matt & Kim and a ton more. Tickets are available here , only single day passes are left. Check out the full lineup listed below. Austin City Limits 2010 Lineup: [...]

Frank Yang People seemed generally disappointed on Tuesday when I answered their queries of, "so what are you doing for your birthday?" with "having sushi, watching TV and editing photos". Apparently the correct answer was some permutation of "getting loaded and causing shit" but fact was, I had been out a lot in the past few days and a quiet night at home getting caught up on whatever sounded like a great plan. It would have taken a lot to get me to abandon that plan. Something like a last-minute, surprise show from [...]
My favorite songs are the ones you feel in your bones, the ones that bubble up effervescently with that passion which has to explode out your extremities in the form of claps, stomps, and other forms of bodily percussion. A few months ago, fellow blogger Adrian and I started knocking around the idea of a Stomp/Clap mix with all the best samples of these songs. This has been an absolute joy to assemble (with suggestions from you guys) and is the perfect late-Spring soundtrack. While everything outside is coming back to life, these songs [...]

All photography by Sebastien Dehesdin It was only due to Basia Bulat 's sheer tenaciousness that this gig took place at all. Whilst many transatlantic artists found themselves stranded across the pond thanks to the wrath of the Icelandic Magma Gods, the Canadian songstress raised her middle finger to Eyjafjallajokull and made it all the way to Kilburn, with just an hour to spare. Her dedication in getting to the country in the first place is impressive enough, but it's obvious she lavishes that level of effort on everything she does - at least if [...]

There's something bothering me...something I haven't understood for about three years now. Namely, this thing is the fact that Basia Bulat is not one of the best-selling, or at least most critically-loved, artists on the Googlewebs. I mean, somehow she doesn't even muster "Best New Music" on Pitchfork , yet her 2008 debut album Oh, My Darling and this year's Heart of My Own both crushed my heart with the kind of mind-blowing artistic vision and emotional honesty that marks only the best art. I just don't get it, folks...are we living [...]

Wonderful post Neil, it really was great to have you up, hang out with you, and battle those ridiculous wind to [...]
Filed under: The Hit List On Wall Street, quarterly reports show how investments have fared during three-month increments. But here at Spinner, we like to take stock in music. And if the first quarter is any indication, 2010 should be a robust year. Some of the new year's most successful acts are still on a roll from 2009, of course. But others have launched with the new decade. Here are 20 of our favorite songs that rose in popularity the first three months of this year. [...]
( Flickr ) South By Southwest / Austin, Texas / March 15-22, 2010 ( Flickr ) Took me a little bit longer than I would've liked but I finally went trough all the pix I took at SXSW and here's what I believe to be the best ones in the bunch. The list of artists/bands I was fortunate enough [...]

The announcement of new albums being released by my favorite indie rock bands just keep coming -- The New Pornographers to Broken Social Scene to The National to Wolf Parade... as I ponder which band will be next (still waiting on Arcade Fire with fingers crossed), I did a quick calculation... only 3 months into the year, fully 25 of my top 100 favorite bands of all-time (a list I periodically update) are releasing a new album in 2010. I kind of cheated a little by including Pavement's "best of" as a new [...]

A few days ago, I was waiting at the bus stop and listening to Basia Bulat 's new album, Heart of My Own . A guy standing next to me was also listening to his iPod and I guess he got a little too into the music, because he started doing a slinky hip-hop dance. He would have looked like an idiot were it not for the fact that his slow-motion dance was strangely perfect for Bulat's eerie, pastoral folk songs. "Go On" kicks off the album with simple guitar strumming and a drum-heavy arrangement [...]
