Last Friday, the Bowery Ballroom played host to an eclectic mix of excitable fans who gathered to bask in the pop vocals and electro beats of Will Wiesenfeld as Baths. Will, who has also released tracks under the Geotic and [Post-Foetus] monikers, has become just as well known for his affable onstage banter and humble regard for fans as for his high energy shows, and this night was no exception. First up was musician and producer Joel Burleson's Ki:Theory. Embodying cut-n-paste music at its best, Ki:Theory's original songs [...]

Happy Monday, folks! A while back DJ Echoes wrote a concert review for Baths and Braids . Since reading that post, Baths's track Lovely Bloodflow has made a prominent appearance in numerous different playlists on my iPod. So when I heard he was coming to DC again to finish up his East Coast tour, I was more than ecstatic to see him play live. I've been to my fair share of live shows and normally know what to expect. However, this time I had no clue what I was getting myself into, despite [...]

Live This Month: December 2011 (Podcast #262) In Live This Month , we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. For a month when few new records are coming out and music journalists spend a lot of time meticulously crafting numerical lists of their favorite albums of the year, there are still a wealth of great live shows hitting the San Francisco area in December. Bands that had big years in 2011 - including Other Lives, Cass McCombs, and [...]
Following on from a short tour of England last month , Bergen, Norway's Casiokids have announced a tour of the UK early next year: all the details are below. And now you're probably wondering why this is a Live Gig Video post. Well, now I get to tell you. The band played their new-ish song 'London Zoo' for a live session with Radio France in mid-November, and we share it with you directly after the tour date list. Thursday 19th January 2012 - Birmingham Hare and Hounds [...]
Baths is the pseudonym for one of Los Angeles' most hyped beat makers, Will Wiesenfeld. He was a resident DJ at LA's now infamous Low End Theory and today, he plays shows all over the country. His Los Angeles show on December 17th at the El Rey marks the end of his North American tour [...]

A self-descibed "cut-n-paste" musician, Ki:Theory (nee Joel Burleson) is best known for re-working tracks by Daft Punk , Ladytron, Brazilian Girls, UNKLE, and Sasha. But, upon visiting the Virginia-native's website , which contains eight albums free to download, listeners discover Ki:Theory is as comfortable producing organic, minimal pop tracks as he is re-configuring electro bangers. With another LP set for an early 2012 release, Ki:Theory has plans to release a series of singles leading up to the album's yet-to-be confirmed drop date, beginning with the debut of the video for "I Wanna Run". Featuring vocalist Maura Davis (Denali), the [...]

Raleigh Moncrief is earning nothing but heavy props from the weirdos of LA beat music and indie rock. He's pretty much got shit on lock when Busdriver, Shlohmo and Baths show you love in LA, while two of the biggest and weirdest indie bands in Deerhoof and Dirty Projectors have him on their radar as well. Although we should hardly be surprised, we've had nothing but glowing adoration for Moncrief's debut Watered Lawn - welcome to the club indie dudes. Busdriver and Deerhoof'...

Silly title, eh? In honor of our favorite holiday—the month long No Shave November, we asked some of our favorite artists questions about their facial hair. All interviews are entirely devoid of musical questions, as we see No Shave November as a time of repentance and self-reflection, focusing on a self-evaluation of where one is [...]

Baths mastermind Will Wiesenfeld and Sacramento producer and BTW Raleigh Moncrief have a lot in common. They're both signed to Anticon , and they both straddle the line between Brainfeeder-style bass music and mercurial bedroom-pop. Maybe that's why Baths decided to record a prettily diffuse cover of Moncrief's track "I Just Saw." Below, download both the Baths cover and the Moncrief original, and check out a fresh list of Baths tour dates. Read More...
