Enjoy.

Last weekend Liverpool Sound City saw most of the worthwhile bits of the music industry ascend to the city of Pope Steven Gerrard in pursuit of free alcohol, 'networking opportunities' and music. Watching jealously from my self-imposed exile, throughout the very extensive coverage came a common theme ; Ninetails are almost everybody's favourite new band, thanks to a mixture of taut, Tall-Ships-ian melodies and elastic facial impressions. Excessively generous as they are, Ninetails subsequently released new single "Blue Bottle Flu" on Monday, and you can even pay what you like for [...]

Quietly, calmly moving along from its Butlins residence this year's Bloc. relocates to the similarly newly rejuvenated London Pleasure Gardens way out east somewhere along the DLR. Exchanging Centre Stage and Crazy Horse for German deep-sea fishing vessel MS Stubnitz and the imposing scenic surrounds of derelict warehouses, this year's festivities sensibly snub the Sabbath, a day that's traditionally as limp as a waterlogged Minehead hotdog stuck in the seashore as far as most festivals are concerned. Thus Bloc. is to take place on Friday, 6th July and Saturday, 7th July, and our scattily selected highlights are [...]
Its getting closer and closer to that time. Yes, Bloc 2012. What a better way to get pumped for it them an essential playlist of tracks from some of my favourite artists of the line-up. Bloc 2012... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

At long bleedin' last Yeasayer hath returned. With physicals of this one, Henrietta, shipped out to the band's mailing list a short while ago all of a less eager and/or engaged disposition may now indulge via the below stream (ta, We All Want Someone To Shout For ). It's immediately seemingly pretty evident that the genre-bounders have been listening extensively to fellow New Yorkers Battles' Gloss Drop / Dross Glop (either/ or) although it's a wholly effervescent fizz of hyper, cyber-balladry irregardless and a quite wondrous [...]

There's little better than efficient creativity – and Battles has that combination down. The rock group blew listeners away with its first album, Mirrored, in 2007. Shortly after came Gloss Drop – and now (enter the efficient creativity component) – welcome Dross Glop. The band's latest creation is unique, yet capitalizes on the second album's tracks by remixing all of its original tracks via guest remixers including The Field, Kode9, and Qluster. The result? Awesomeness. My favorite track on the new album is probably Ice Cream from Dross Glop 4 (the [...]

Yeah Okay, You're Right : So it's less than a month away now, and we've not said a word about it (yo, things got hectic around here!), but we're still very excited for the 'roo. You probably already know what Bonnaroo is, but on the off-chance you've been hiding in a cave for the past 11 years, there's a huge music festival that's about to happen on a lovely farm in Manchester, Tennessee from June 7th through the 10th. For a long weekend, music fans flood the small Tennessee town and camp out [...]

Dross gloppers Battles will be returning to the road in June. Surely, indie kids from all over are already getting excited about this tour. Battles tour dates: 6/2 – Chicago, IL @ The Bottom Lounge 6/3 – Cleveland, OH @ Grog Shop 6/4 – Millvale, PA @ Mr. Smalls Theatre 6/5 – [...]

I remember back in the day when Limewire still existed, I downloaded anything with the label "remix" beside it. I thought remixes were the coolest things, and since I was so inept about music at the time, I loved every last one. Now that I'm not a mere toddler, I'm a little more picky. Released over a period of several months, the Dross Glop remix album by Battles featuring retuned tracks from Gloss Drop , is finally complete. Four separate vinyl releases have added up to an ambitious project, one messy (but awesome) looking cover, and a new [...]
On this edition of Audiography, we feature reviews of the latest releases by former White Stripe Jack White, Spencer Krug's experimental project Moonface, a remix of Battles' Gloss Drop , and the bass-pushing production of Bassnectar. We also include my conversation with Built to Spill's frontman Doug Martsch. I caught up with him as he and his band were preparing for a week-long stint at Austin's 2012 South by Southwest Festival. The two of us talked about the band beginning work on their latest album and looked over the history of Built to Spill, including the band's [...]

Earlier in our coverage of Record Store Day 2012, KEXP has covered both the full list of record exclusives and live events around Seattle ; however, amidst the many, many special releases available this weekend, we've highlighted the vinyl releases that we're super excited about. Arcade Fire - "Sprawl II" (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Courtesy of Merge Records. Remixes of The Suburbs tracks "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) and "Ready to Start" by producer Damian Taylor with Arcade Fire. [...]

It's very nearly one of my favourite days of the year. It's a day when people are encouraged not to just click the 'download' link next to the song they're listening to, but to put on some trousers, shoes and other going-outside necessaries, totter down to the local (preferably independent) record store and pay in circular bits of metal and rectangular bits of paper for a - wait for it - physical copy of said song. Now bear with me. This isn't some new-fangled idea that some hipster came up with, but it's what people used to do [...]
I thanked the music god when Bear In Heaven's new album "I Love You, It's Cool" finally came out. The band had posted a stream of the album playing 400,000% slower than normal and it was so tedious. I understand their intentions for doing so, but doing something as gimmicky as that isn't going to stop illegal downloads. So what does this album have apart from a silly stream, lush art design, and a boring music video? The short answer is; lots of tribal drumming. I've been excited for this album to drop for a long [...]

Idioteque - Radiohead @ HP Pavilion, San Jose, 2012-April-11. The incredible lighting as seen in the picture above is by Andi Watson ( interview ) who has been doing Radiohead's lighting/stage design since almost the beginning of when the band first started touring nationally. Thank you W.A.S.T.E. for the incredible seats. One of the best Radiohead shows I have ever seen, and that's mainly because of the lighting. ( More pictures: Flickr ) If you could travel back in time which at the rate of technological advancement (see: Technological [...]
All the bands we think you should listen to this week have at least one thing in common with another on the list. 1 - Thery're British (therefore automatically awesome). 2 - It's been too long since we've had new material from them. 3 - They have math rock tendencies. 4 - New, poppier songs are not what we're used to hearing from them. 5 - They're just basically awesome all around. Can you tell which is which? [...]
