"Tiny Fingers" is lush and exotic, with sounds of broken sitars, brass, and wind chimes backing a gentle acoustic strum. Like everything on Red Velvet Snow Ball, it would be the perfect accompaniment to a day of greenery – lying in the green grass, staring at the green trees swaying above you, and perhaps indulging in something that would make the sky appear green.

Last week we released The Key Studio Sessions Volume 1 , a digital compilation of 17 songs recorded by local bands who have done our weekly Key Studio Sessions . You can download the entire collection of 17 songs here . Today we highlight a song from the session that Summer Fiction did in January. Summer Fiction is the latest project from singer-songwriter Bill Ricchini. When he recorded the session he brought in a group of players to record with him that included some of best musicians on the local Philly scene including Brian Christinzio [...]

Revisiting some of the classics 5-star songs from my iPod. It was the discover of these songs that really got me into experimental, indie music. French indie outfit Hey Hey My My is Julien Garnier and Julien Gaulier. Forming in early 2005, the duo both write and compose folk/country glossed pop songs similar to Nick Drake, Frank Black, Paul McCartney, Johnny Cash or Brian Wilson. Hey Hey My My - Merryland Download audio file (hhmm_merryland.mp3) Melvern Taylor writes songs and plays the ukulele. He is backed [...]

Add your own adjective to finish off the title (plus it ties in nicely with a little gem later). Snow, ice, rain and damn cold weather can't keep this fine weekend of music away. Lots of talent from the region and elsewhere are out and about. Here is what's happening. For the past few months, I've been going through my hard drive and clearing out old files. Why? Because my free space is sittin' on 1GB aka empty. The main reason why there's so little is the accumulation of files over six (6) years. And yes, before you ask, I have a lot of music on my computer. Unfortunately, my old music has to make way for the new music. There are countless, expensive remedies to spare me the heartbreak of having to delete said music, but I'm sure you know how that goes. ANYWAY. So, today I [...]

My latest review takes a look at the talented B.C. Camplight's second album, Blink of a Nihilist . The Philadelphia native conquers his own personal demons as he wages through an enjoyable effort that blends irresistible hooks with classic influences. (more...) Share This

I loved B.C. Camplight's last album Hide, Run Away . He released the follow up effort, Blink Of A Nihilist , last week, May 14th. I really like the songs Soy Tonto! and The Hip & The Homeless , but he's made four songs from it available for download, so I'll just stick with those. B.C. Camplight's MySpace . B.C. Camplight (Brian Christinzio) talks about [...]

BC Camplight's new record, Blink Of A Nihlist , is out now on One Little Indian in the UK. I made a big stink about BC Camplight's debut record, Hide Run Away , which came out in 2005. The guy is a pop music genius just waiting to be discovered. It's no surprise the the English label One Little Indian continues to release his music, since he wears his Beatles, XTC, and Soft Boys influences on his sleeve. That this native Philadelphian's new record is only available as an import is absurd. [...]
Eerlijk is eerlijk, het was toeval dat ik B.C. Camplights Blink of A Nihilist in de cd-speler van de auto stopte. Ik moest overhaast weg en griste nog snel een paar cds van de schier oneindige stapel op mijn bureau....

Release Date: 05.15.07 In the vain of Aqueduct, Panda Bear, LCD Soundsystem, Bright Eyes, and WHAM! (we all know Andrew Ridgeley was the only one that mattered in that group), comes Philadelphia based BC Camplight. It sounds like a band's name, but it's really the just one dude; Mr. Brian Christinzio. His latest UK release, Blink of a Nihilist , the follow up to Hide, Run Away (One Little Indian - US), takes you through a journey of quirky, optimistic indie pop. [...]
As Toronto is in the middle of a heat wave, it is only fitting that I look at a few artists I have discovered via the Summer Burn disc I received. Since 14 of the 17 songs listed were by artist I had never heard of before, it will take a while for me to cover them all. Random Song 1: Lauren Hill - To Zion Lily Allen Lily Allen [...]
