Brooklyn's Beach Fossils are back for the first time since their headlining gig at The Echo in December! Recently they played at this year's SXSW in Austin, TX but now you can catch Beach Fossils live at EchoPlex on Thursday,...

Beach Fossils have announced that they will be making their return to Los Angeles for another show in support of their latest EP "What a Pleasure", which we have been listening to for quite some time. This time around Beach Fossils will headline the Echoplex on Thursday, May 17th along with Catwalk to open up the show. Tickets for this show are available to purchase online now through Ticketweb for only $12.00 plus any additional service fees. This is one show that we strongly suggest adding to your calendar. If [...]

Another cut of dreamy, jangly indiepop from the Brooklyn band. Propelled by intense rhythms, 'Shallow' is uber-catchy and doesn't just hark back to the 80s for its reference points as some of their earlier releases perhaps did. 'Lessons', meanwhile, has learned to subvert the woozier indiepop sound for something messier and transgressive, though always listenable. A summery sound, evocative of the best of times when it's too hot to move, too hot to think, and all that's left is to sizzle.
I think about the perfect summery mix. Possilby something to rollerskate to near a beach or something equally picturesque? Or maybe to loaf in a field of ladybug filled flowers? Or skipping through a cemetary, for all of you dour types perhaps? I'm thinkin' such a mix might look a little like this: Beach Fossils - Plastic Flowers A wake cover. Those jangly guitars & girl & boy vocals -- oh man, it just kills me every time. And here's another track I'm enjoying, which is a bit newer: [...]
It's been a long time coming but it's finally here. LMDM is back and the beloved mixtape is as my greatest inspiration would put it, insanely great. Per usual Steph captures a multitude of feelings, emotions and styles sure to keep the worst of music skimmers engaged and entertained. All the selections come together to portray a sort melancholic hope that instigates both thoughts of lost loves and desired passions. Great art always explores both coast, it always makes you think of the sad while inspiring the beautiful. LMDM is great art to me and throughout this unique combination of February & [...]
No doubt I'm late to the party, but I've been enjoying the work of some of the neo-shoegazer bands that have cropped up lately. I haven't looked at my feet so often since the heyday of My Bloody Valentine, Ride and Lush in the early 90s. Fortunately, I can still see my feet, although I need glasses to properly focus on them these days. Wild Nothing - "Summer Holiday" from the album Gemini . Beach Fossils - "Adversity" from the EP [...]

Close your eyes and imagine yourself sitting on the beach. Watching the tide from the ocean roll out, a quiet and serene environment placated with veritable beauty. This is the sound of Beach Fossils new single, " Shallow ". The band, who's name suit them like a fitted jacket, are the brain child of Brooklyn based Dustin Payseur, who seeks inspiration in the works of meritorious and admirable poets and artists such as Don Cherry and Jean Cocteau. The kind of melodies that are blasted from [...]

I think you'll notice right away that our March mix is a very different beast from the February mix. For example, we open this one with the sultry, shimmering new single from Beach House, whereas last month's mix opened with an upbeat, tropical-island inspired B.I.G. remix. It's indicative of the overall mood of this mix which I'd describe as cozier, more laid back, more introspective, and even a little sexier than it's predecessor. You could float through the clouds on the back of Lemonade's single. The Evy Jane single, like everything else I've heard from the duo, is irresistible. And [...]

San Francisco's 2 piece Evil Eyes , makes some of the most relaxin and serene indie pop you will hear. On their new self-titled EP, I certainly hears traces of Beach Fossils and The Smiths. On tracks such as "Saw Her In The Sun" and "Burying Our Love", the duo perfectly capture the care-free nature of the coast under incredibly infectious riffs. Listen below and then download it here . evil eyes by evil eyes

It really is time to dance. Past time in fact. Let's do it. Also, slo-mo cat's playing and remote controlled women. But also Angus Stone's wonderful music, despite a so-so video. -Matt

Whoa, what happened to the past 2 weeks? All I remember is there was a Uhaul van, a lot of coffee shops and a rainy new city. Here is what I have been listening to. Free mp3: Deer Tick - Virginia Girl Free mp3: Andrew Bird - Give It Away Free mp: Andrew Bird - Fiery Crash [...]

It's probably pretty clear from a quick glance down this blog that I love a good theme. I love types of blog post that are themed, and I also love themes within themes. It's like an inception style post. Kind of like today's post. It's a Come Down With Me theme, and within that it's a 'beach' theme. This really only came about because I was listening to the What A Pleasure EP by Beach Fossils , which is totally great. They manage to have a sound that is simultaneously jangley and dreamy. The [...]
