[if you're so lucky to have access to Spotify, you can start up this playlist of Captured Tracks-highlights while reading the blogpost. Most of these releases are also available in digital shops like emusic and itunes.] I'm very much into the sound of the Captured Tracks label these days, and I've found several goodies among their releases. My personal highlights have so far been Wild Nothing 's shoegazy poptrack "Summer Holiday" and the equally fantastic b-side "Vultures like lovers", Beach Fossils [...]

Whoa boy.. time just flies like crazy these days huh? I just realized that we had our 3 year anniversary at the end of last month and I totally forgot about it. It's hard to believe that we have been doing this for that long but apparently that is the case. We want to thank you for coming back here and continuing to check out our favorite songs. We do this because we really like sharing music and it means a lot to us to see the traffic grow to greater numbers every year. People [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours Listening to the Brooklyn based band Beach Fossils conjures up memories of simpler times. The band has a lo-fi, fuzzy sound punctuated with simple beats and thoughtful lyrics. They're fairly new on the scene but glancing at their tour schedule, which includes SXSW , it's clear they're catching on. Spinner recently caught up with Dustin Payseur, who brought the Beach Fossils together. Describe your sound in your own words. [...]

What's been an exhaustive labor of love these past few months, is finally coming to be an actual reality! SXSW 2010 is a mere week or so away and IGIF is back for our second helping of the (beyond) crazy week of music industry madness. Last year we got our toes wet throwing a great day party with Two Syllable Records ; this year we're doing a full-on cannonball and making a big splash with our own party. Without further ado, we give you Floating Fest 2K10 : [...]

Hopefully by now you'll have been listening to Cloud Nothings since at least, oh, a few weeks ago, when we first posted about them. Well, turns out them is him, him is he, and he is Dylan Baldi, who was nice enough to take a few minutes from his busy schedule and tour preparations to answer a few questions for us. So without further ado... Q: First of all, your Myspace page doesn't provide us with a whole lot of information. Tell us [...]
Beach Fossils have been a band to watch in my mind for a while. I just didn't get to posting it as early as I hoped to. I was firmly reminded to get off my arse and get a "band to watch" post after seeing the band live this past Saturday night. They rocked it live. Beach Fossils is Brooklyn native Dustin Payseur. The band rocks a full lineup live that have become the solidified Beach Fossils in most of our minds. Their sound is most easily described as dreamy lo-fi with a bit of reverb on [...]

Here are the only "decent" photos that I was able to take from the Surfer Blood show on Saturday night at Market Hotel. I don't have a professional camera like other bloggers, so until the $$ comes in, we will have to tough it out with these. View them after the jump by clicking read more. I do this only so the front page isn't slow due to the large amount of photos. Beach Fossils [...]
There are times when you put on a record and a song rings out with an uncannily different tone than the rest of them. You can't quite put your finger on it— it is arresting, ecstatic, horrifying, and otherworldly- it as though a portal has been opened to the spirit world [...]

Rockshows to Know will be our attempt to regularly list shows that are of interest to us and probably you as well, mostly in and around the Louisville area, and will often be accompanied by sample MP3s. The news about Caribou/Toro Y Moi playing at the intimate Zbar last week was epic, and there's more good jammage around the bend. The in-fucking-comparable Josephine Foster plays the intimate Skull Alley in Louisville on May 7th. As the show was just confirmed, expect additional acts to be added to the bill in the next couple [...]

(Victoria Jacob for SUP Magazine) The buzz started in late 2009, but Beach Fossils continues to be a band to look out for in 2010. Their Daydream 7" has quickly become some of my favorite new music this year. The 7", co-released by Captured Tracks and Woodsist is the perfect roadtrip soundtrack that envokes feelings of nostaligia and sun-drenched days at the beach. The Brooklyn-based band [...]

Last night was one of my rare appearances in Brooklyn. I don't usually venture down there, as I normally find everything that I need in Manhattan. Occasionally a good show suffices in Brooklyn, and I will decide to make the trek. The Morning Benders are one of my favorite young bands (like you needed me to spell out the obvious). I made the drive from Binghamton to come home this weekend just to make sure I caught this special show. The Benders were a last minute addition for the Surfer Blood headliner show that also included Beach Fossils [...]
It's a talent that I don't possess - the ability to act disinterested about most everything that's going on in my life. Beach Fossils, despite having a name that is comprised of two pretty cool things in their own right, makes everything seem as if it's such a fucking drag that there's almost nothing worth [...]

This show is holy crap good. There is NOWHERE else to see music on Saturday night, period. Let's start off with the obvious. Beach Fossils and Grooms are two quality Brooklyn bands. You can't go wrong with Grooms' Sonic Youth-y noise, and Beach Fossils' jangly rock has really been hitting its stride live lately. Surfer Blood, yes, the teenage boy wonders. Though they may be overhyped, their Weezer-esque songs are still fun, I suppose. But what really puts this show waaaaay over the top are The Morning Benders and Turbo Fruits. Morning Benders were basically forgotten about and swept under [...]
Monday: Your Nature + Cavalier Rose @ The Studio at Webster Hall 8pm FREE [ info ] Most of the best things in life are totally free and tonight's show at The Studio kicks off the week completely free of charge. To sweeten the deal even further Your Nature recently put out a new EP that is available for absolutely nothing from their website ! Oh and Cavalier Rose isn't holding out either, they have a free Daytrotter session and EP up on their site as [...]

This show is part of the same Beets/Christmas Island/Beach Fossils tour that I blogged a whole bunch about last week. Except this time they're playing at a much bigger venue with the addition of German Measles and Crystal Stilts, two very good additions if you ask me. If you caught this show last time around, I'd probably suggest sitting this one out in favor of other Saturday night pursuits. But if you missed it, all of these bands are a whole lot of fun. MP3: "Love is a Wave" - Crystal Stilts [...]
Beach Fossils - Desert Sand I've been trying hard to get into Beach Fossils and I think I'm finally hooked and this song did it for me. via IGIF

If you've been following this whole lo-fi lazy summer meets surf rock movement with bands like Real Estate , Washed Out , The Young Friends , Small Black , etc. there is a whole range of tones and tempos. One band that needs more releases out is this Beach Fossils group which I think has some great guitar parts, i'll keep you updated on new material by them since they sound pretty promising. Sbtrkt is one of the guys that has hit me over email with tracks, I really love [...]
