Beach Fossils are becoming masters of creating jittery dream rock. They create such a hazy care free sound that I can't get enough of. These songs deserve to be heard while cruising through the coolest summer breeze. Their new song "Calyer" is no different. If anything, the band has become even sharper, becoming even tighter than they already were. "Calyer" will be on their new EP What A Pleasure, which is coming out on February 22nd via Captured Tracks . Grab a mp3 download below: [mp3]: Beach Fossils - Calyer [...]

For the debut post of TWENTY11, I thought I would bring out a new podcast highlighting some songs by some of my favourite acts of the last year that you'd hopefully not heard. I've got Male Bonding, Dum Dum Girls and Beach Fossils heading up the Lo-Fi front, Big Boi and Team Teamwork with some hip-hop and Washed Out, Beat Connection and jj for some chill time. There's a Sex Bob-Omb song (yes, from the Scott Pilgrim movie) and Algodon Egipcio's brilliant cover of Male Bonding's "Weird Feelings" - check it out now, iTunes link and a couple of individual [...]

Happy New Year everyone. Beach Fossils will release a new EP on January 11 through Captured Tracks with the full length follow up to last year’s excellent self-titled debut coming this spring. Hear “Calyer”, the jangly, reverb-laden lead single from the EP, below. MP3 :: Calyer (from the What A Pleasure [...]
'Tis hard to believe I'm just typing the words for the first post of 2011. Goodbye 'oughts! Goodbye dreary zeroes! Goodbye another three hundred and sixty five days of sonic frequencies in all their many forms! Hello to the vague, amorphous fog of possibility hanging low over the horizon! What better way to start fresh than [...]

The problem with so-called best-of lists, is that they are really just a collection of items organized based on experience and time, in that there will be plenty of albums heard the following year and beyond that will hold just as much weight as these we dub as "Best." So, as of right now, at this particular time in the tail end of 2010 and the first moments of 2011, these albums are the best. There's no question about it; it will change. My next list (which I've started, but may take a while to publish) is [...]

Looking back at all the music I added to my collection in 2010, it's obvious that this past year was more about digging up classics than discovering new material for me. But that doesn't mean I wasn't listening or looking. There actually were quite a few releases this year that caught the full attention of my ears and heart, even if I was being a stubborn curmudgeon. I didn't want to do a "Best of" list, since that would seem somewhat pompous of me ( and it's really just a matter of personal preference anyway ). So instead [...]
So that's it, the year's over. I heard a lot of great music this year, some stuff from the past and a lot of new stuff. This mixtape is about the new songs I've heard that captured my ear and didn't let go. Of course there are many many others, but to get them all in one [...]

Surf's up dudes and dudettes - surf rock is here to stay, and L.A.-based Wavves is one of the shining lights re-introducing the genre into popular music conversations. I’m from Australia, and have only reviewed Australian music so far on Indie Shuffle, but was surprised to find that nobody had already posted [...]
We come to the last of The Wounded Jukebox's Best Songs of 2010 lists. I made an effort to avoid repeating artists on my list in order to include more of the songs that I loved this year. The resulting list is a pretty good representation of the tunes I discovered in 2010. I prefer [...]

Continuing our best of 2010 coverage we now look at some of the awesome songs recorded by our pals at Daytrotter this year. And I will just go and say it... Daytrotter is quite possibly my favorite places to find music on the internet. If you are not clicking over there at least one a week, you are really missing out. Yes, you have to register and use their java-based downloader thingy, but it is so worth it. These are our favorite Daytrottin' tracks of 2010 . Listen. Downloadables: [...]

Vol. 1 being more focus on bands like Best Coast, The Radio Dept., Wild Nothing and having elements of lofi, chillwave, 602s surf [...]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =jYR67ZX2FBY Good morning.... 30. Beach Fossils - Beach Fossils - [ Captured Tracks ] Beach Fossils practically set themselves up to fail in the unflattering glare of critical spotlight. A lo-fi-ish (groan) Brooklyn band (groan) playing sun-kissed post-punk (GROAN), reaching for the indie zeitgeist by practically naming themselves after the go-to overused inspiration for [...]

Seven dreary days in a row is sunny San Francisco. Time to get super bummed out and watch the rain with your headphones on. You should probably play this while you're doing that. Beach Fossils sort of blew it for me when I saw them live, but they continue to wrench my heart with every song. This one is off the Distance/Face It 73 from a while back - still good though. Always good. Beach Fossils - Face It Download audio file (face_it.mp3)

After my love affair with Beach Fossils earlier this year, I'm getting pretty excited for their new EP, What A Pleasure, which will reach your ears on January 11th via Captured Tracks. They've also got their next LP to come out in April. Check out 'Calyer' below which is beautiful, warm, reverby stuff. It pretty [...]
