What with all of the excitement of yesterdays BAMS post, I forgot I hadn't scheuled this post to go up. Better late than never eh?! This weeks chosen albums of the year come from Adam Stafford, A Band Called Quinn, St. Deluxe, Mondegreen, The Son(s), Bear Bones and Sparrow & The Workshop... Micachu & The Shapes - Chopped & Skrewed chosen by Adam Stafford Most of the albums that I've admired in 2011 have come [...]

PAWS Ah PAWS, I fucking love PAWS. They're noisy as fuck, they do what they want and they have great tunes to boot. They have a demo called ' How Can I Depend On You? ', it's on SoundCloud, it's free and you should download it. The Little Kicks Aberdeen's finest, The Little Kicks are all set release their self-titled, second album this coming Monday. As a wee teaser of what to expect they've posted up their song 'Call Of Youth' for free download on Bandcamp . [...]

Yes, I am fully aware that the picture above is a bit shit, but then again how could I resist posting a photo of a man so happy with his bowl of Ricicles. The man in question is of course Ben the lead singer of Bear Bones, an ' 8 piece ensemble of accordion, brass, bells, banjo, strings, drums and voices '. I first came across the band last year when they released their debut single, 'Oil & Lacquer' late last year, but to my shame I didn't catch them live until just a few months back at the [...]
It's the final lap for this year's IMRO Showcase Tour, visiting Dublin one more time for a humdinger of a night with Future Bright and then heading to one of the country's finest venues, Dolan's in Limerick. A end of tour all dayer takes place at the Workman's Club in Dublin next month but in the meantime here's who you can see this week... Thursday 29th September – Crawdaddy, Dublin (with Future Bright) Brought together by a shared love of left field pop music, beats, psychedelia and cinematic sounds and samples, Bear Bones [...]

Bear Bones were just announced as on the lineup for Body & Soul this week so what better time to listen and download the band's four-track Ursa Major EP than right now. I caught the band live in The Bernard Shaw a few weeks ago and afterwards, Bitzlr compared them to Morr Music artists like Lali Puna which I can certainly hear on this EP as well as the aforementioned jangly indie-pop tones. If you're in Galway on Friday, these guys play with Last Days of 1984 [...]

Right I know I said I wasn't going to do one of these for a few weeks, but seeing as my favourite bookmarks is getting out of control I thought I'd post up some links to some of the best stuff that I've found recently. We Were Promised Jetpacks One of the main reason for me wanting to post a Freebies was the new Jetpacks song, I fully appreciate that most of you will have already downloaded their new song ' Act On Impulse ', but if you haven't then you really should as [...]
We're heading back to the airwaves for this month's State vs... live gig, with the mighty Dan Hegarty of RTE 2FM joining us in bringing you yet another night of fine Irish music. Heading the bill are Planet Parade , the Kildare three piece who featured in our Faces Of 2011 feature earlier this year on the back of their excellent Zulu Sound EP. Support comes from Cork electronic duo In Valour plus we are delighted to have Bearbones (yet another of our tips for 2011) playing one of their first [...]

Bearbones: From left to right, Ken McAllister, Austin Agnew, Martina Leonard, SarahJade Evenden and Bren McGinley. Bearbones have gifted me two things to share with you all. First up, a new old song from the Skeleton Jones vault, now a Bearbones tune 'All Things Pass' with added vocals. In fact, it goes like this: Ken McAllister's SJ project has been merged with Bearbones. All Things Pass by Bearbones We're going to use Bearbones as [...]
Imagine our disappointment when shortly after we featured 8Ball in our Faces Of 2010 , they announced they were breaking up. The band were just starting to fulfill their promise after six years of dealing with the machinations of the music industry yet couldn't go any further. Thankfully, some of the band namely Ken McCallister, Bren McGinley, Sarah Jade Evenden and Austin Agnew are back with a new project Bearbones. This time around, the band are promising "a steady stream of quality tunes" with a healthy split of genre-hopping as they write songs separately and then work [...]

Here at MM we share, chat, argue, bury and praise music on a pretty regular basis...like daily. So throughout the year, the Mackerel crew (Mrs Mackerel, Barry-Sean, Christy-Popper, Dr Roddy, Polly Pocket, Starbar, MM and others) keep their own ever-changing top tens ready for publication at the climax of the festive season. This year, to start the ball rolling we have, the already much missed Polly Pocket's entry. At least she'll remain a MM contributor if nothing else. 10. Back in June, I introduced you to Skeleton Jones , a new project from Ken McAllister of 8Ball and here we have another project in which Ken hooks up with some of his old band members (Bren McGinley, Sarah Jade Evenden and Austin Agnew) and channels Bradford Cox and co. on the twinkly and sprightly 'Moonman'. More tracks are one the way soon with an EP coming in February. Moonman by bearbones

Ghost Pants Paul Carlin (aka the dude from Dananananaykroyd) is back with the third in his series of lo-fi EP's, and you know what, I reckon this might just be his best yet. Sticking with the 'heart's theme, this one is called 'Active Hearts' and although it's down as being free, I asked the man himself if it would be okay to say to folk that they can download it for free, he said 'yes'. What a nice man he is. You can get yourself a copy here . Ghost Pants make their live debut at the [...]
This is adorable. Even with all the murdered cute beasties that litter the video. Diving Bell is coming out as a single from Scotland's Bear Bones in December. In the meantime: MP3: Bear Bones, "Oil & Lacqueur"

imagine a world without terror and pain where it's always sunny no thunder no rain where dreams are reality and they always come true where everyone's happy and they all smile at you where the colours are bright and the people are nice where it's always easy no roll of the dice no greed or possession money doesn't exist no lust or temptation to try and resist a world full of love and beauty and peace where the hating would stop and the wars would cease where the animals play and the people don't lie where the flowers don't wilt [...]

Bear Bones, Lay Low is somewhere between Neu and Kraftwerk when they didn't suck - which is kinda the same thing. Hipped by dublab . Vomiting Bass: Download | Stream
