Words by Brendan Sullivan The artist page for Bear Hands on the website of their label, Cantora Records, says that "Dylan Rau started Bear Hands to spite a romantic rival." I don't really see how that influences their sound (no wistful songs about lost love, etc.), but to whoever that romantic rival is, I'm kinda glad you exist; without you, we wouldn't be able to experience the unique indie pop-rock music that Bear Hands has been making for the last few years. Their songs are well-crafted and hooky, [...]

Jonsi performed his first and last set on his intimate acoustic tour under the banner ‘Go Closer’ at Origami Record s in Los Angelese. He then promptly canceled all remaining shows stating: "Standing there nose-to-nose with fans in the cold light of day the other day in Origami Records, Los Angeles, he had the sudden and undeniable realisation that this is not the environment in which he flourishes. Arguably it was the most uncomfortable experience of his ten years in the public eye, and as a result we are unwilling to [...]

Bear Hands' debut LP, Burning Bush Supper Club , is an exciting, hook-filled record that fills the hazy, dance rock void left by those jokers in MGMT. The Brooklyn foursome have been honing their live chops in the three years since their first EP, 20072s Golden EP , and Supper Club is worth the wait. With its sharp-as-knives bass line and singer Dylan Rau's glam falsetto, lead track "Crime Pays" is an exhilarating introduction, though not a great barometer for the rest of the album. "Crime Pays" comes off as a slinky [...]

Well, it's been awhile! Hey...look what I mixed: Remember to Right Click/Save As on Cover Art to Download So, I grew up a Doug Flutie fan... sue me. He was the big Kahuna when I was in high school, and like many Eastern Massholes, I have a special affinity for our local athletes. What's that you say about Tom Brady? Yeah... suck bilge water, hater! Sorry... that was an unusual lack of decorum on my part. I [...]

Yep, we've made it to our 500th post in a little over 2 years! Looking back, we've been fortunate to have the opportunity to share so much great indie music with you. Today, we wanted to do something special and since we're in the last quarter of 2010, we thought we'd run down some more top tracks from the year. We already featured 40 top songs in our mid-year round-up here . Not surprising, 11 of our recommended albums added another top track to our list. Once all the 2010 releases drop this year, we'll compile our Top 100 [...]
Bear Hands are set to release their debut album Burning Bush Supper Club through Cantora records on November 2nd. We have previously reported on the track "What A Drag" but now we have Bear Hands showing off some new sound in "Crime Pays." Based off my listening of the What a Drag 7" and Rumpus Room Sessions ( which can still be downloaded ,) I was under the impression that these fellas were an interesting blend of indie rhythms combined with the vast ranging vocals of Dylan Rau. "Crime Pays" [...]

One of the Bear bands at CMJ that seems to be getting a lot of buzz is Bear Hands . (That sounded like a elocution/speech exercise.) I'm currently googling the lyrics because I swear he's singing about the Mondales? Bear Hands: What A Drag.mp3

Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr is hands down the band you should look forward to seeing the most at this year's CMJ. The Detroit duo have only officially released a four song EP, with one of the songs being an impressive Beach Boys cover. I guess this chillwave pair are the perfect example of why bands should only release their BEST material. It's hard to figure exactly what this band sounds like [...]
The first track from the forthcoming debut album from Brooklyn band Bear Hands was unleashed on the blogs yesterday. (We saw it first over at A Heart Is a Spade.) It retains the same pronounced percussion of their previous single (the fantastic "What a Drag"), but it moves the band into somewhat new territory, boasting [...]
