I had originally planned on going to Safari Sams Friday night to see the the Tee Pee Records showcase, but was so worn out from my week I couldn't muster the energy to make it up there. Instead I opted to stick around Costa Mesa after work and head over to eVocal to see Bears , a little pop group from Cleveland, OH who's guitar player, Craig, used to play on The Lovekill . I had never been to eVocal before, but drive by it all the time. It is a small boutique on 19th street [...]
The first three songs are recent, the others a bit older. It's all relative, my main concern being the hope you'll find some to enjoy. Click band names for more info. Cleveland six-piece are soft and sweet and compulsively clad in the sound of crisp acoustic guitars.

Last week, I presented my picks for the best albums of the year thus far . Here are some of the songs. I'll probably finding myself posting these all again at the end of the year. They're that good. Not a lot of overlap with the albums -- in picking favorite songs, I find myself drawn to tracks that stand-out from a record vs. trying to pick a winner out of a collection of great songs. So you can imagine how good the Spoon song below is if Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is my current AOTY. [...]

Bears : Shortest Day of the year EP (Autoproduced) Bears are taking us a little by surprise with this brand new EP, following their lovely auto-produced 2006 debut album . As its main title leads to suppose, the 7 songs have obviously been inspired by the depressing days of the Ohio winter. So do not expect any laugh or upbeat party in here!! Just let yourself get carried away [...]

Columbus, OH And here's another bears band that has put out a great EP! Charlie and Craig of Bears have said that the music on Shortest Day Of The Year is quite different from the songs on their debut full-length. However, I think it'll find a warm welcome in anyone's heart. "All I" Bears on MySpace Bears on The Hype Machine

Photo by David Greenwald We need more bands like Bears . They play sad, acoustic ballads recorded in a thin, wistful fashion; the lightness of the songs sits nicely against their mope-around-all-day content. The band reminds me of groups like Slowreader or Unbunny, but if those names aren't ringing any bells, think Grizzly Bear (coincidence, I'm sure) without all that reverb. Bears - "You Can Tell": mp3 (Buy the self-released Shortest Day of the Year EP, out now, direct from the [...]

Bears were in-town the other day, but were unfortunately up against the awesome spectacle of TV On The Radio. I wasn't real familiar with the Cleveland band's music until I heard they were coming through Indianapolis. I checked into them and I've been listening to their 2006 self-titled debut with regularity since. It's a quick listen, 13 songs, but only 36 minutes long in-total. They're perfect pop songs for the those with A.D.D. Bears - When You're Away (highly rec'd) [...]

MP3: Bears - You Can Tell Bears were one of the first bands I really loved when I got into checking up on this whole mp3 blog craze. One of the first blogs I really embraced, You Ain't No Picasso , posted about them and have a couple of times. Their music is just so carefree and loose, but in a structured way so it's not all over the place. There is focus, but they do it without making it apparent. The harmonies that I look [...]
Orchestral pop group Bears are going to be releasing their new EP on April 3. "Shortest Day of the Year," their second release, is available for preorder on Best Kept Secret. Here's a preview. MP3: Bears - You Can Tell I got this song last night, listened to it and went to ...
On April 3rd, Bears will self-release the Shortest Day Of The Year , a seven song EP full of several pensive, slower tracks that serve as somewhat of a departure from the upbeet twee of their debut and their yet-to-be recorded second album. The disc is available for pre-order now through the band's website for $5 and Italian label Best Kept Secret will offering a limited edition CASETTE pressing to coincide with the release. Here's a complete tracklist: 1. Those Years 2. Reason To Cry 3. [...]
As mentioned in the introduction to our somewhat unorthodox end of the year Best Of list, the combination of our procrastination and our inability to make up or collective minds has led to your getting not one, but three, Best of the Bitch lists. Drewl and Chaddigan will have their chance later in the week, [...]

Most of us know about the Bears from Chicago. Yeah, the disappointing football team whose promising year was ruined by a grinning quarterback from Louisiana. But what about Bears from Cleveland, Ohio? Unlike their football counterparts, this fun loving band is poised to have another great year in 2007. Originally consisting of the duo Craig Ramsey and Charlie McArthur, both multi-instrumentalists brought their bedroom project Bears out of the closet after spreading them throughout Cleveland and later recruiting four more members to play with them live. Guitarist Patrick Tripto, bells and tambourine player Rachel Hart, bassist Sean Sullivan, [...]

What kind of Chicagoans would we be if we didn't show support for our hometown team on the verge of making history again. Especially since the Bears have contributed such a vital piece of music Americana in the form of the Super Bowl Shuffle to our cultural landscape. So, in our way of supporting our Chicago Bears, we have compiled a group of songs from eight of da finest "bear" bands in music for this week's Friday 8-track. Enjoy! GO BEARS! Program 1: 1. Black Bear Combo [...]
This was the fifth time we've seen Bears in as many months, and somehow the best twee band in America is still also the best unsigned twee band in America. There's been talk of label courtship but there's nothing to report, just words and photos about a band that's still So Very Good and waiting for the word of mouth campaign or PR muscle or inexplicable fake cable news cross-promotion they need to really bust things wide open. On Saturday, Bears headlined the third annual Music Saves /Square Records Swap Meet-a bill [...]
Every now and then someone tips me off to a an album that I had absolutely no idea existed yet it inevitably becomes fused with my CD player. I just can't bring myself to remove the disc because quite frankly nothing else is going to sound better. It happened in 2001 when my brother, Drewl, handed [...]

Bears : S/T (Unsigned) I do not remember exactly how and when I heard Bears for the first time but I remember the song very clearly: it was Â"Still AlrightÂ", a very quiet & saddening xylo-clothed pop moment, and this convinced more than enough to - almost blindly - order the album HERE . Hope youÂ'll do the same causÂ' this Cleveland unsigned duoÂ's debut is shining, fluttering and sparkling from [...]
The second half of a short mix I made for my girlfriend. Songs from Belle And Sebastian, Saturday Looks Good To Me, The Minders, Wilco, Bears, and M. Ward.
From their recent acoustic performance for Cleveland State University's WCSB radio station comes "Since I Met You," a song that I first fell in love with at Bears' headlining gig earlier this month. "Since I Met You" reminds me a great deal of The Galactic Heroes-one of the other great underappreciated twee bands of [...]
