By now, most of you have had a chance to ingest the bleh lineup from the good folks over at Goldenvoice. I believe that we're too spoiled and expect the moon every year, that when marginal acts, i.e. Phoenix are put into headlining roles, we tend to kind of freak out. The reason being is that Phoenix belongs on the second line of the bill, not top. At least not yet. They've had ONE really good album, and some aight albums along the way. If they could've put together the Smiths, Rolling Stones, or even a [...]
![[MP3] Beastie Boys – Right Right Now Now (Manu El Chino Remix)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4732361_lg.jpg)
Not a bad remix (although the vocal falls off beat a little in the second half which is a little jarring to listen to!)

South Africans JACK PAROW and P.H.FAT collaborate for the track 'Spring Moederfokker' and what accompanies it is a kind of insane video where very jumps around an institution filled with nurses eat hotdogs suggestively and men where too revealing clothes and oversize hats. Fronted by Die Antwoord collaborator Jack Parow 'Spring Moederfokker' is a track that appears built for a party environment which is at least partly thanks to the killer beat pulsating through the course of the [...]
As we reported last week , Gaspar Noé — the man responsible for the French films Enter the Void and, shudder, Irreversible — has directed the video for the rather excellent new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds single "We No Who U R." The video is rather restrained by Noé's standards, but it fits the song beautifully, and it got us thinking about other well-known directors who've moonlighted in making music videos. There have been plenty over the years, some triumphant, some rather less so — so here's a selection for your viewing delectation! Marvel, [...]
As we embark into what is obviously not the end of the world, I would like to give you some food for thought. When did you start settling for mediocrity? When did apathy become acceptable? When did the DJ become the promoter? When did DJ's start aspiring to become the next Milli Vanilli? Out of [...]
In honor of our first New Year's Eve after the passing of Dick Clark, here we bring you a little music memorial. The NY Times has put together a nifty montage of photos and song snippets to pay tribute to some of the many music greats that are goin' up to the spirit in the sky . You can check it out below. It's tasteful, thoughtful, and way less awkward than the annual Grammy retrospective that's always underscored with live audience clapping really hard for whichever fallen one hit wonder and then not [...]

After sorting through the best songs and albums of 2012 (and figuring out who to watch in 2013), take an extended trip down memory lane and enjoy a recap of 2012 in pictures.
Jean-Louis Brossard is Art Director at the Rencontres Trans Musicales Festival in Rennes. At this year's 34th edition of the festival we talked with him about his passion for music, the beginnings of the “Trans” in the ambiance of the 70ies and how he discovers talents for the wide ranged line-up. “Music is there for
What’s left to say about The Beastie Boys? The three Brooklynites were pioneers of Hip-Hop, dropping their genre-shaking Licensed to Ill the same year Larry Bird’s Celtics won their second [...] The post The Primer: 11 Beastie Boys Songs Everyone Should Know appeared first on The Smoking Section .

The Golden Ponys’ lets-go-round-the-merry-go-rou nd mix of Passion Pits’ ‘Carried Away’ is most definitely bouncy. Brooklyn’s double act of up & coming flavour packs more memorable energy into their stride, than a little puppy who’s running towards their next meal. Even though each and every one of their mixes are exciting, TGPs’ memorable moments are ‘Juicy Bass Head,’ ‘Somebody That I Used To Know,’ ‘Dreamers’ and their über-fabulous ‘What I Want.’ The dancefloor has just gotten a little bigger... It’s time again for Friday on My Mind , our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. For this week, we are looking at some of the most Memorable Musical Performances given on Saturday Night Live . In 1974, Canadian producer and comedy writer Lorne Michaels was asked by NBC to create a new show to fill in an open Saturday night show slot which had previously been running reruns of The Tonight [...]
The Beastie Boys - Intergalactic is one of those classic tracks that i can just never get sick of. I never get sick of artist inturpretation of it either. This time the Beastie Boys global hit gets some epic moombah treatment from DOSL OBOS & Roscoe Ratcheton. Pretty bloody good if you ask me. Enjoy. With the year beginning to draw to a close, and with only a bare handful os Sundays left for 2012 Slaylists, this week we're turning out attention to those we've lost in 2012. We're talking about the bands that have either broken up or gone on hiatus, as well as the more serious subject of musicians who sadly died at some point over the last 12 months. The first half of this week's Sunday Spotify Slaylist are bands that fall into those first two categories - bands that either finally [...]
Explosions, expletives, exotic dancers - OH MY! Local disco duo Night Panther's video for their single "Fever" features all the elements you could expect to see in a Tarantino film (plus a car chase!) in just under 12 minutes - but in a lo-fi, campier style, naturally. The video pulls elements of Beastie Boys' 1994 "Sabotage" video, ... Continue reading

Back in 1997, the "Electronica" craze was sweeping the United States. Not knowing how to describe dance music, the media manufactured this catch-all phrase, similar to the way the term "EDM" is used today. At the time, a band out of the UK known as The Prodigy had assaulted the mainstream worldwide with pair of singles: "Firestarter" and "Breathe." It was undeniably dance music, but it carried a much different edge. The beats were harder, and coasted onto MTV and pop radio with the use of a more rock-oriented sound, something that the group's producer Liam [...]

A fuggy haze hangs low over the East River between Manhattan's Financial District and the brownstones of Brooklyn. Clattering like one of those wooden toy snakes across the Williamsburg Bridge weaves a long, low train, lazily rolling its way along the J line. Sprayed in a dulling array of pinks, greens and primary colours, tagged to within an inch of illegibility to those over 35, its contents sit in silence, oblivious to the multi-coloured carnage in which they are cocooned. Inside is not much different. It looks violent . It feels violent . Doors, windows, seat coverings; every [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Music Appreciation Ben Stansall, AFP We give our modern day rock stars a lot of grief, and often for good reason. There's a modest backlash brewing against Rihanna because she doesn't even bother to pretend she's singing entire songs live anymore. You don't want to be on the streets when Justin Bieber is driving around. And R. Kelly ? [...]
