One week later after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East coast, millions of Americans are still picking up the pieces, with many still without power, gas, or food. Attendees are urged to donate canned food, bottled water, and all manner of supply assistance: blankets, clothing, tents, kitchen, and medical supplies, etc. Tickets are available here . - Blink-182 have [...]

Beastie Boys' Adam " Ad-Rock " Horovitz has contributed music for a short film titled Off the Rails (via The Daily Swarm ). Presented by The New York Times , the film accompanies a recent expose on the Amtrak line that connects New York to DC, specifically the economic patterns that have emerged around it. "You can see all the economic change of the last century - the good and the very bad - right along the Amtrak raillines that go from New York to Washington, DC," the narrator states in the short [...]

Feliz dia de los muertos. That only means the stores are filling up with their normal Christmas/Thanksgiving rush. The NBA season started. Thankfully, because the eager anticipation for Nuggets fans has been excruciating to see the new signing from the 76ers, Iggy, kick the proverbial tail in his new powder blue uniform. Rough-weather days like this always get me thinking about one of my favorite musical Hurricanes, the one that rocked the ones and twos for The Beastie Boys between 1987 and 1998. On this track from DJ Hurricane's 2000 full-length Don't Sleep, we hear Black Thought from The Roots making a tremendous appearance on the second ... Continue reading

- Frequenze remix - BEASTIE BOYS INTERGALACTIC (Narsti Rmx)
Sixth in John Roman's free series of fortnightly releases. This time Bubba Sparxxx and The Beatie Boys get the remix treatment. Bubba's relatively low key, slightly country-style, original gets turned into a creeped out bit of wired urban IDM. It's the alteration of the drums into something more synthetic and the bits of sirens that does it. The Beastie Boys becomes an excellent piece of techno house, full of pounding drums and piano driven interludes. The pick of the pair. 01. "The Nights I Missed Out" A revision of Bubba Sparxxx's "Deliverance" [...]
Big thanks to DIA for sending in his tribute to the Beastie Boys'late great Adam "MCA" Yauch (Rip). South Arlington What Up, Break Something to This.

Blue Sky Black Death and Nacho Picasso 's great third album, Exalted , gets a well-deserved boost today thanks to the fresh visuals for standout cut "Kickin' Out Windows". Armed with BSBD's airy, Beastie Boys-sampling production, Nacho talks his shit and makes off-the-wall references to Andre Agassi, pro wrestling legends, and more. He also rocks one hell of a denim outfit in the video, which mostly features him and his crew getting nice and faded. Check it out below.

Just in case you didn't know, 1989 was a pretty amazing year. For one, the USSR pulled out of Afghanistan after a nine-year occupation (man, they had the right idea there). Also, apartheid in South Africa begins to be dismantled by the new Prime Minister. The Velvet Revolution in Prague and the Cultural Revolution in China start up. And Ronald Goddamn Reagan finally leaves the White House. In case you weren't aware, there was also some significant and incredible hip hop made that year amid some serious international turmoil. Today I've compiled a brief sample to begin your research. [...]

As you may have noticed from the last post, I've been really into lists lately. I'm not sure exactly why, I've just been in a very High Fidelity mood these days. So today I bring you my Top 5 Music Videos. It was a very hard list to make, and I know I've left out some classics ... but this is my desert island VJ mix. 5. Madonna - Like A Prayer Okay, I wasn't even born when this was released, but even my generation is still aware of [...]

Back in March Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and members of Slightly Stoopid teamed up to pay tribute to the Beastie Boys at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, Calif. The ensemble reprised the tribute show, which contains a mix of KDTU material and Beastie Boys classics, in May and over the summer. Now KDTU plus Kyle, OG and Dela of Slightly Stoopid will bring the show east this fall. On November 30th, The Royale in Boston will host the Beastie Boys Tribute before the show moves to the Best [...]
The leaves are starting to change, and the air is starting to feel cooler. That's right, football season is here. And what better way to celebrate the return of the country's favorite Sunday past time than with a Madden playlist? The EA Sports football franchise began way back in 1988, with it's first release for Apple II computers, and it has certainly come a long way. Through the years, it has managed to build a huge fan base, while continuing to improve the game. Adding new features and better graphics has been the series' mantra as it has become [...]

Pavement - "Summer Babe (Winter Version)" Slanted and Enchanted , 1992 Pavement were never dressed for success. On Slanted and Enchanted , they sounded like they haven’t done laundry in years. Even now it’s hard to tell whether ”Summer Babe (Winter Version)” is a ne’er-do-well savant stroke of genius or a calculated masterpiece disguised in ripped acid-washed jeans. But it’s proof that three [...]
The latest twist in the, um, unusual career of Lil B is his unlikely metamorphosis into a based rock god. The rapper unveiled his new guitar-toting incarnation earlier this week with the video to a new song called "California Boy," in which he wanders around Guitar Center in LA and confesses his love for a terrified-looking passing lady. We have to be honest here: the song's pretty terrible, making it the latest in a long line of ill-advised rap/rock crossover ventures. Not every rapper deciding to make a rock song/album has met with disaster, but plenty of them [...]
