You can also send an e-mail to your Senators telling them that you support DC Voting rights. Monday: The Robot Ate Me & Run Chico Run @ Piano's 8pm $8 If you're like me you totally slept on getting tickets to see Spoon knowing they'd be playing a free show in the city this summer. However, we still have to select a show for tonight so I'm going to pass on the recommendation of a few of my blogging cohorts to see this show at Piano's. From what I've heard The Robot Ate Me is a dude that performs with a dog's head on his head. Run Chico Run [...]

You may remember me talking about Beat Radio last fall . Well, they're working on a new EP called Safe Inside the Sound , and they've got a track from it available for download: People are Talking It's got everything that made their earlier songs great, namely an "electronic-but-organic feel...guaranteed to make you feel good about life." It's a perfect song for the nicest day yet of the spring. They've put up MP3s of their whole [...]
The pounding bass drum beat in a minor key, is quite addicting. Add in a tambourine for good measure, and you have a pretty decent pop song. Beat Radio-People Are Talking mp3 _______________________ A weird, looped guitar riff followed by...
Well my good friends, today has been quite the harrowing day for me. Needless to say, I've been exceptionally busy, to the point where I barely have a moment of free time, let alone time to spend outdoors in this record high temperature weather. As a result, blogging takes something of a back seat on days like today. I don't like it to, but alas, sometimes these things are just facts of life. The good news: you'll get a quick double dose of posting either late today or early tomorrow, as I pretty much already had this week [...]

come see this band. seriously. and at merc too! come experience some songwriting awesomeness. below you will find a new mp3 from the band, not included on their album. Beat Radio - People Are Talking

How would you describe Beat Radio's music for people not familiar with you? Brian: We make indie pop music. I think of indie rock as a sort of sonically adventurous music that is free of the conventions of any particular genre, and that's how we approach making records. I'm also really into the old fashioned craftsmanship of writing a song. I'm trying to write pop songs and connect with as many people as possible. I've made records in the past that have felt more like art projects. This is more ambitious. Lyrically, our songs are much more earnest, and [...]

Beat Radio - People Are Talking Beat Radio's Brian Sendrowitz sent me an email a few days ago with this new track from the band's upcoming EP , Safe Inside the Sound . There's no specific release date yet (as far as I can tell), but if "People Are Talking" is representative of what the band's been working on, it's going to be great. "People Are Talking" is bona fide indie pop: wide-eyed and uncomplicated, as carefree as it is urgent, and as [...]

I can't remember a day as full of great new releases as yesterday was. New releases from Modest Mouse, Low, Ted Leo, Andrew Bird, and LCD Soundsystem all hit stores yesterday. You'll see reviews of them all very soon, but (for now at least) there are bigger fish to fry. I got an email from Brian of the always awesome NYC indie rock band Beat Radio this evening. He indicated that they have a new EP called Safe Inside The Sound on the horizon and that he wanted to share a song from it [...]
At this point we have reached the saturation point of SXSW posts so I'm not going to bore you with links to the recaps of the entire fest. I am however going to point you to some swell upcoming festivals that have been pointed out by other bloggers. Over at sixeyes you can view the lineup for the Reading and Leeds Festivals over in jolly ole England. And Badical Beats has a nice post about the festivals being hosted to Save Darfur , sure the one closest to us in New York has a pretty [...]
Wild Sweet Orange have been featured on I Rock Cleveland a couple times over the past year. They're still from Birmingham, AL, they're still cranking out compelling tunes, and to the best of my knowledge, they're still unsigned and have yet to release a proper debut. Their latest number, "Land of No Return," popped up on myspace the other day. It came with a note that it was recently featured in an episode of Gray's Anatomy during a "dramatic moment." Yeah, I'll admit it. An appearance in a prime time drama makes Wild Sweet Orange dangerously close to [...]
- By the End of Tonight play their ONLY NYC show tonight at Cake Shop. There's a praising preview over at Oh My Rockness if you are on the fence. I recommend: GO! -Three of my favorite albums of 2007 – and likely all three will be top 10 by December- came out yesterday: LCD Soundsystem [easily a 9.2 ], Andrew Bird , and Panda Bear . Pick up all three somewhere. - Beat Radio has a new mp3: People Are [...]
It has been about a month or two, so it makes sense that Brian and crew are back writing. Seriously - if all my favorite bands were this prolific, I'd never have a chance to listen to anything else. The upcoming Beat Radio EP - Safe - is coming out soon, and if the first single ( People are Talking ) is any indication, the band has made a big jump in complexity. The song starts with a slow metronome-like drum beat and Brian's unique voice. The spacey back beat adds another wrinkle, before [...]
Beat Radio have posted a new song on their website - the first in some time since they made the entirety of their record The Great Big Sea available for free. I remember hearing this song the last time I saw the band at Union Hall about a month ago, and this recording is remarkably faithful to how I remember it live. Beat Radio - "People Are Talking" Beat Radio play Mercury Lounge at 8pm on Monday, March 26th. [...]

I love making Mix-Tapes, or more appropriately, Mix-CD's. I made quite a few last year, and feel they are a good way of recapping last year's goings on in the blogs, (since that's how most of the tracks came to my attention). Below you'll see 12 out of the 20 tracks that were on the first one I made. It starts with the voice of Colin Roberts, former editor of Drowned in Sound . The mix-tape is fairly subdued and peaceful, although No Scrubs is great for novelty's sake, and each track stands up on its own two feet. [...]

Just a few round-up type items that I found noteworthy. First off, Moonbabies has revealed the name of their upcoming album: Moonbabies At the Ballroom . Looks like they're aiming for a March release in Scandinavia, but no word on anything else. They're also getting ready to release the first single, which will be "War on Sound." I bet it won't be the same as the edit on their mini-album of the same name, mark my words. Moonbabies -- [...]

I know I have heaped praise upon the brooklyn band Beat Radio before on this blog, numerous times infact. But honestly their stunning performance Saturday night at Matchless in Brooklyn left me practically speechless. I don't even know if I could name one other band right now, at least from around here, who are so genuinely brilliant and yet so terribly underrated. Brian Sendrowitz's heartfelt lyrics ALONE I think make it impossible to not fall in love with Beat Radio and then have them break your heart (but in the best way possible). [...]

I'm so tired. Like beyond tired. I think I fell asleep while walking to work this morning. After some much needed R&R tonight, tomorrow I am heading out to Brooklyn (gasp!) for Chris and Pat's new showcase at Matchless. It's been far too long since I've seen Beat Radio , and I'm ready to sing along to all the songs on their debut album . Also on the bill is Mistakes , Life in Bed , and The Lisps . [...]
