Beck has revealed he's close to finishing a brand new album. Having spent the last couple of years largely focusing on soundtracks, collaborations and, er, releasing a book of sheet music, the American musician is finalising the follow-up to 20082s Modern Guilt . Beck spoke to Australian radio station Triple J regarding the untitled new record: "I started a record, largely recorded in 2008, so I'm trying to carve out some time from all the production work I'm doing to finish those songs before [...]

Following the imminent arrival of his Song Reader album through McSweeny's this December ( on sheet music no less ) - Beck has announced that he's working on a standart format album. The news broke in an interview with triple j radio: "I started a record, largely recorded in 2008, so I'm trying to carve out some time from all the production work I'm doing to finish those songs before they become records from a lost era. It's going on a half decade at this point." Beck Hansen's Song Reader [...]

Good news for those fans of Beck who can't read music and/or prefer not to listen to their new Beck album as performed by a magazine staff . In an interview with Australia's triple j radio , Mr. Hansen confirmed that he's working on a new album, which will be released in a "pretty much standard format." Beck explained, "I started a record, largely recorded in 2008, so I'm trying to carve out some time from all the production work I'm doing to finish those songs before they become records from a lost era.

It’s time again for Friday on My Mind , our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. Thanksgiving is around the corner which means it’s time to get our eat on, so we’re looking at songs about food. The original Thanksgiving dinner actually lasted a total of three days. Little known fact: due to the lack of an ample sugar supply, there were no pies or cakes at the first dinner, but swans, lobster and seal [...]

Women. You know what the age old saying is - can't live with them, can't live...uh...without them? The second part might be up for debate but that's for a later discussion. What I can assure you is that I don't have binders full of them like our good friend Mittens, but I've got a playlist that sure is. This week's list is a tribute to the female race with 8 songs dedicated to everything about them. If you think you've got a playlist worthy of making the site, shoot us an email. We're always looking to get our [...]
It's nice to be pleasantly surprised once in a while, and Free Reign , the new album by UK band Clinic, has been on high rotation here at Flavorpill of late. We've always rather liked Clinic's work, but we'll be honest — we didn't expect to enjoy this record nearly as much as we have been. Perhaps the most notable thing about Free Reign in comparison to Clinic's other records is just how interesting its production and general sound is, which is perhaps not surprising since Oneohtrix Point Never assumed production duties. There [...]

The trailer for what appears like new music for Jamie Lidell looks like it could be a commercial for Xbox Music, but we won't hold that against him. No more details, but 2013 is already starting to look might fine. Jamie Lidell-Completely Exposed (Beck Remix) [MP3]

Next month, Beck will release his new album of sheet music, aka Beck Hansen's Song Reader , through McSweeney's . On Tuesday, The New Yorker published Beck's preface to the album in which he addresses the genesis of the project, how sheet music functions next to MP3s, what he hopes individuals will bring to the songs, and more. While you can read the whole thing over at The New Yorker 's website , we've selected some choice excerpts below. What [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Pop Culture , Music Appreciation Getty Once upon a time, music fans had to actually pay for all their music, a phenomenon that peaked in the 1990s. The explosion of alt-rock left major labels awash in cash and on the hunt for "the next Nirvana ." A ton of terrible music was released in the process, much of which sold by the bucket load thanks to the labels tendency [...]

I've been to a whole bunch of festivals in my time, but at 28, my time might be coming to an end. Creaky knees, pale skin and general grumpiness have lead me to start turning down festival invites in the hope that my favorite bands will be playing a sideshow. But Harvest Presents is different. "Harvest is not a festival, it's a feeling." Held for the first time last year in Melbourne, Brisbane and (my home town of) Sydney, the festival was one of the best musical days of my life. Even before the bands were [...]

Beck sevdiğim bir müzisyendir. Onun içine ruhunu katarak yapmış olduğu tüm çalışmalar müzikal anlamda içi dolu işlerdir. Beck'in 2009 yılında hayata geçirdiği Beck Record Club bir cover projesi. Beck ve yanında yer alan değerli bir müzisyen ekibi müzik tarihinin değişik dönemlerinden seçmiş oldukları bazı albümleri baştan sona cover'lıyorlar. İşin özü aslında cover değil albümü baştan yaratıyorlar. Peki bu müzisyen ekibinde kimler var derseniz. Devendra Banhart, MGMT üyeleri, Sonic Youth'dan tanığımız Thurston Moore, Tortoise, Jamie Lidell, Wilco, Liars, Nigel Godrich, [...]

Now That's What I Call 2008! 2008 was a fantastic year in music. So fantastic, in fact, that it inspired me to start blogging about the great acts and albums of that time. After years of anonymous music writing on Wikipedia (fighting with editors on which bands were truly "notable" and Wiki-eligible), I decided to take my own shot at promoting my favorite acts, and thus Three Colours was born. Feeling a hint of nostalgia this week, I put together an HDPP with some of my favorite songs from '08. [...]

Posted in Play-This-List If you have 20 minutes to spare today, sit back and take a listen to this. 'NYC 73-382 is a song taken from the upcoming album Rework: Philip Glass Remixed, a joint project by Beck and Philip Glass. The album features a whole host of artists re-imaging Philip Glass - contributors include Dan Deacon, Memory [...]
