Four times a day, often at half hour stretches...there's plenty of time for reflection and the mind to wander. A song to sing. A record to recall. Pete just sniffs along too. The perfect spot is here – no, there. Here – no, there. And no perceived lack of shame to be doing it outdoors at the height of the evening's rush hour. Business men wind their way around Pete's business. I recall my dad saying goodbye to Pete the morning he left for the hospital before his heart operation. 'I'll be back...' he said in [...]
So, I have a bit of a confession in regard to our 'break' last week—it really wasn't a vacation at all as was insinuated by the vacation graphic that was posted, all tall frosty one and teal ocean water. In fact, Business Week Magazine framed an article (no joke) on why we were absent from TVD HQ last week: "On a Tuesday night in late July, Jon Meyers, 42, got the call every child with an elderly parent dreads. His 84-year-old mother, Ruth, who suffers from dementia, had fallen in her kitchen and was [...]

Bee And Flower - I Know Your Name
"I got nothing." I love it when Jon Stewart says that. But seriously, I've got nothing to say today, maybe even tomorrow. Sometimes I'm overflowing with thoughts for the blog and I can't keep up with myself, but right now I'm dry. Empty. Without an original idea. I couldn't even come up with a song for the next contrast podcast , that's how bad it is. I am listening to a ton of music. I re-upped my [...]

I was all set to do a "mystery song" post about the song "Homeland" because it's on my ipod but doesn't have any identifying information, therefore I didn't know who did it. But then I searched my itunes and lo and behold it's by the band Bee and Flower , so mystery solved. What a lovely discovery this band is. Lead singer Dana Schechter has a wonderfully smokey voice, and the music is an atmospheric mix of lush reverb and delicate guitars, with a touch of a retro-organ and [...]
From: Bee And Flower Who? A New York City / Berlin band founded in 1999 More? Band members are Dana Schechter, Roderick Miller and Toby Dammit Sounds like? An intimate, luxurious and [...]

Here in Southern Ohio it's a lovely 73 degrees today. I spent an hour sitting on the balcony of my 3rd floor apartment reading the Paste magazine that arrived in the mail for me today, listening to ye ol' iPod and watching a resident groundhog scamper around on the ground below. I also saw the first bees of the season, it indeed must be Spring. To celebrate here are a few nice calm and enjoyable songs about bees... The Softies - " Me and the Bees " ( left [...]

Apparently, here in Brooklyn, it's flu season. When you are achey, shakey, sniffley, coughey and just generally miserable, it is important not to discount having health appropriate tunes available. My prescription is Bee and Flower (and a flu shot). Bee and Flower are refugees from this fair city, now happily residing in Berlin and making tunes that are interesting, pretty and, bless them, soothing. I wonder if perhaps they were fleeing the rampant germiness of this place. Alas, they are on the cusp of releasing a new album, with a new track included here. For the past two days, most [...]

It's no surprise that I found Bee and Flower on the Devastations myspace page. As soon as I heard Dana Schechter's voice I wanted to hear her sing with the Devs' Conrad Standish. She has a smoky husky timbre that lends itself so well to the minor key sorrow that she and the band offer the listener. And in fact, Bee and Flower do their pollinating in Berlin, Germany, where Devastations are also based, so there must be something in the water, or the air, or the wine, that provokes, or attracts, [...]
