Heroes of the Dancefloor is a band composed of some members of the Scissor Sisters as well as some of their friends. Their music is exactly as that would suggest with a few jazzy touches. If you're looking for some unabashed disco goodness, look no further. Heroes of the Dancefloor - Ricky Heroes of the Dancefloor - Some Scandal Heroes of the Dancefloor Myspace AZLTRON MUSIC BLOG

After suggesting (threatening might be more accurate) yesterday , that I might string together some 'shame' songs, temptation got the better of me. It did remind me why I continue with such apparent pointlessness though, because I unearthed something rather lovely from Denmark that's I'd downloaded from Bandbase.dk last year. Delightful, yet chilling, acoustic guitar & vocals, railing against an unfaithful ex-lover. ♫ Shame on You - Herborg Torkilsdóttir Shame on You (2007) myspace - another three songs there [...]

It's great when you get to hear a band step outside of it's normal sound for a bit of fun. This past holiday Austin's The Octopus Project offered up a little treat for all their fans, a cover of the Bee Gees "I.O.I.O" compete with vocals and all. Known for their energetic instrumentals, it's nice to hear them pull off this psych rock version of the Bee Gees classic. mp3: The Octopus Project - I.O.I.O (Bee Gees Cover)

The Bee Gees - Sweet Song of Summer I'm finding that this one has more psychic resonance in the evil darkness of January than it did when I first heard it last June. In troth, it is a winter song. Featuring Mike Vickers .

I was contemplating a couple posts for the remaining month...one that would feature some of my favorite cover versions of Silent Night and one that would be for Martin Luther King Jr. Day/Inauguration Day. I have to say it's harder to find serious Christmas songs for the Inauguration. Some silly songs about black elves were about as close as I could find, or I could have celebrated the best in Christmas music by African American artists. Just not a whole lot of political Christmas songs that aren't novelty joke songs. But I came across [...]

The Octopus Project recently offered up this delightful little cover the Bee Gees’ “I.O.I.O” for free download as a gift to fans. Josh, Miranda, and Toto all take turns on the vocals, which are incredibly well harmonized for a band that doesn't sing very often. The result of which has some wondering if maybe the instrumental group will be trying out some new vocals on their next album and others asking where the Theremin is? Their yet-to-be-titled new album which they’re anticipating releasing next Fall. In [...]
No one can beat a Gibb for sure fire falsetto satisfaction. Robin Gibb- Juliet and a little remix action by CatComplex for the recent BuffetLibre Rewind 2 . Nice mix, doesn't go the obvious route, its filtery and French, but surprisingly quirky and takes a lot of unexpected turns. Robin Gibb- Juliet (CatComplex Remix)
A few items of interest... Firstly, an album that passed under my radar - it only having been released in NZ, and on a tiny independent label at that - and only brought to my attention recently by a friend with exquisite taste and a good pedigree of recommendation :) Graeme Humphreys and Peter Keen were previously members of NZ indie-rock band the Able Tasmans, but in 2006 made an album as Humphreys & Keen . Called 'The Overflow', it's a truly astounding record, full of the kind of melodies that [...]

So I've consolidated my iTunes onto one computer this year , but as it is with the nature of music, my listening mode has changed. I've begun digging into the past for history and inspiration, and expanded on favorites with re-issues and deluxe editions from the 60s through the 90s. Despite that, most of my top tracks over the year remained in 2008 territory. 3 tracks that weren't came from 2007. Compare with my top 10 albums of 2008 and, for many, this is not a surprise! Since I pretty consistently blog these end of year lists [...]

the bird and the bee "Please Don't Stop the Music" (Rihanna Cover) - mp3 Soon to be profiled Stark Artist to Watch, the bird and the bee like playing covers. Their cover of the Bee Gees' "How Deep is Your Love" featured on Sex and the City has helped give this LA duo the profile they deserve. Adding another piece to the puzzle today, is Perez Hilton who posted tbatb's cover of Rihanna's "Please Don't Stop the Music." It's (of course) very retro-sounding, a little trippy, and way [...]

Those rad mamma jamma's , Buffetlibre DJ's , have finally released their rewind project part two. If you haven't been in the know of what these guys have put together, well...they've rounded up some of the hottest artists on the blogosphere and parts unknown to create covers and remixes of 70's, 80's, and 90's tunes. It's a pretty sweet concoction and I am happy to begin the year with some sweet nostalgia. These aren't all the tunes. I've just handpicked some of the better ones. Pick your poison [...]

There have been rumblings about Hercules and Love Affair [Official Site, MySpace] being the greatest thing since sliced bread. New York Magazine raved about it, calling it one of the ‘top five’...

Before "Jive Talkin'," before Saturday Night Fever , before bellbottoms and disco medallions, the Bee Gees recorded an ambitious, timeless double album that nearly broke the brothers apart.

Eli of the Monolators 1. "With Luv'" by, natch, Luv'. Luv' was a manufactured girl group from the Netherlands circa late 1970's, basically an attempt to cash in on ABBA's success. There's three of them, all girls, and they all have different personas: there's the one who can sing, there's the "exotic" one, and there's the blonde one. Like Charlie's Angels. The thing is, though, the this record is REALLY REALLY GOOD. I highly recommend watching their videos on youtube. For example: http://www.youtube com/watch?v=vHllh7J-g2o or this one, with [...]
