Ability II (David Duncan) released his one track on Outer Rhythm in 1991. Outer Rhythm was a highly respected label during it's short lifespan that lasted shortly over three years. Many of the labels releases were licensed tracks from the U.S.A. and Belgium and gave increased visibility to Moby ("Go") and R&S records who had an exclusive pressing & distribution deal which turned many of its artists into recognized & established talents. The deal itself would be for a short period but gave new life to records by Joey Beltram, Outlander & Human Resource being [...]
Filed under: News Ian Gavan, Getty According to newly released documents, the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the late Robin Gibb after an alleged death threat was made against the law firm representing Molly Hullis, Gibb's wife for 12 years before they separated in 1980. The Telegraph reports the law firm of Haymon & Walters flagged the singer to the FBI after receiving "numerous threatening telegrams" from Gibb which "threatened [...]
The last of the Brothers Gibb turns a bittersweet 66; may these five covers ease the pain.
Tracing four decades of pop music to figure out just what, exactly, makes a song timeless.
Jhameel recently posted a cover of his absolute favorite song, the Bee Gee's Stayin' Alive. I like the dark, moody atmosphere he put on this one, it digs into a more desperate interpretation of the words 'Stayin' Alive' and modernizes the song from it's 702s recession roots and puts into a new 2012 recession context. [...]

Jhameel takes the Bee Gees historic 70’s smash, “Stayin’ Alive”, and gives it a sleek, sparse re-do. Taking it out of the disco realm, and into more intimate, darker territory, this is a very refreshing update. Grab your download below.

Rick Ross lives up to his title of The Bawse on the album chart — for this week, at least. The "3 Kings" MC's fifth LP God Forgives, I Don't , which received mostly favorable reviews , debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 after selling 218,000 copies out of the gate. That pushes Zac Brown Band 's Uncaged (which sold another 39,000) down to the runner-up position. God Forgives is now Ross' fourth [...]

"Winner" , the lead single from Pet Shop Boys ' upcoming album Elysium (out September 11), is officially released this week as a digital EP that contains three B-sides: "A Certain Je Ne Sais Quoi", "The Way Through The Woods" and "I Started A Joke". Vocalist Neil Tennant told PopJustice that "A Certain Je Ne Sais Quoi" was originally penned in 2007 with Kylie Minogue in mind, but the duo decided to keep the song for themselves. Meanwhile, the [...]

Monday, August 6, 2012 Sound Samples is a SOTO feature meant to provide some insight on what inspired and/or influenced an artist's latest release. Today's entry comes from Matt Hines of The Eastern Sea. Their new full length is titled Plague, and is currently available. The band is also set to play KGSR's Blues On The Green this Wednesday. If you're not in Austin, there are some other tour dates lined up, and those can be seen here. Good pop [...]
I never particularly cared for "1979," the 1996 Smashing Pumpkins single (and the band's biggest pop hit, with a No. 12 peak on Billboard's Hot 100). It had less do with the song's musical merit, or lack thereof, than it did with the fact that I always thought it was set one year too early. Ah, 1978! The best year of my life -- at least the first decade of it! I can't pinpoint a specific reason why I remember 1978 so fondly. It's perhaps partly because 1977-1978 is the first period of my life that I [...]

Aussie trio Havana Lake do a Haunting cover of the Bee Gees classic disco hit 'Night Fever'.

No one would ever know it, but Greg Kihn owns a block in the pleasing, non-flammable version of my afterlife. It's a block dedicated to his monument-worthy tune "Jeopardy". For 24 hours daily, you're assured the chorus. Wait a bit more and you can be repeatedly skewered by a guitar line so intemperate and thirsty for your blood that the song's lack of warning will leave you a devastated pile of your own entrails. Yet even as you lay there with your one functioning half of lung and massive cellular failure, you pine for more: to hear it [...]

Yes, The Bee Gees. Despite releasing some of the worst music ever during the mid-late '70's this is an absolute gem of a track. Closing their 10th studio album ' To Whom It May Concern ', 'Sweet Song of Summer' is the sound of the Gibb brothers experimenting with studio techniques and psychedelic drugs (there's a track on the album called 'Paper Mache, Cabbages and Kings') with maximum effect. Haunting synths combine with the sugar sweet Gibb vocals to produce a track that really stops you in your tracks. The Bee Gees [...]

After dropping the Red Eye Flights LP under the Calvin Valentine moniker, producer/rapper G_Force is back at it with a fun little EP to hold over his fans. Taking to classic Bee Gees records, G_Force chopped and slapped a ton of awesome grooves together to create the Bee Geez EP. It is all about the beats right now, as the talented producer continues to surprise us behind the boards with a rather eclectic taste for samples. Give it a spin and let us know what you think.
