His was one of the great, underrated voices of the 20th century, and now that tremulous tenor, which often made him sound like he was holding back tears while delivering one of his devastatingly beautiful and haunting vocals, is in danger of being silenced forever. This, however, is not a premature obituary for the great Robin Gibb, who has been diagnosed with liver cancer. Though he was recently hospitalized, has had to cancel a number of live performances, and has suffered several health setbacks over the last two years, he says that he's now feeling much better. [...]

Today I have no pearls of wisdom, no meaningful musings, no lists to share. I have a few decadent stories, but I should probably keep those to myself since they all involve whiskey and nudity. So I will slightly alter the title of this blog and turn my attention to themes for great cities, particularly the song that's been playing in my head and on my computer since last night. A wise man once told me that every day deserves a perfect soundtrack. If that is so, then today mine would be "Paradise," the latest [...]

YesYou: Helping to put Aussie indie pop all over the musical map Olivia Newton-John. Bee Gees. Air Supply. Helen Reddy. That's right. Helen Reddy . The woman who made "I Am Woman," "Delta Dawn" and "Angie Baby" No. 1 hits in the 1970s but whom no one ever seems to talk about today. My love affair with Australian singers goes way back to the '70s and early '80s heyday of acts that, for most people, now would be considered hopelessly uncool. By the mid '80s, [...]

You know that awkward moment when cheesy, glitzy, disco funk beats are coming through your speakers, and you're trying not to be like John Travolta, but you do it anyway? That's what happened here. I haven't felt my hips move like this since last night when I was singing in a falsetto to the Bee Gees . Enjoy the swingin' sounds of the '70s and '80s as Pink Turtle cover Supertramp, Lou Reed, the Eagles, the Bee Gees, and Yes!
by Mark Saleski Back in the 1970s, there were a handful of records you just couldn't get away from. They were everywhere: on the radio, in your car's 8-track player, on your best friend's stereo. This was a good thing if you liked the particular record. If not, well, you were kinda screwed ... and god forbid your girlfriend/boyfriend had [...]

The fuck is Baers? is the "quote on quote" Baers bio on Soundcloud. Such a perfect bio. I've never heard of the Baers before and boy have I been missing out. These guys are almost as underground as you can imagine. I'm talking 7 followers on soundcloud, 7. Do you even want to fathom how many Skrillex has? Their style is very electro dubstep and can give you trace amounts of house. These guys need the attention you and I can give them so feast on [...]
Released in July of '67, "Gin House" by Welsh band The Amen Corner provided an unlikely hit for Deram. A cover of an old Bessie Smith song, it's a blues that features Andy Fairweather-Low's anguished vocals. "Gin House" reached as high as number 12 in the charts and stayed in the top 20 for 5 weeks. Amen Corner were now established and they continued to chart with releases on Deram and later Immediate. Andy Fairweather Low had quite a successful career, playing with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Bill Wyman and on. The list of artists that Andy has recorded with [...]

There's no shortage of terrible covers out there, and the vast majority of them usually fall into one of two categories: Overly faithful and vastly inferior to the original and totally pointless, making you just want to hear the original Overly experimental, wrecking the original, and just as pointless as the first kind of bad cover A good cover finds makes the original great and casts it in a new light. It makes you notice that that disco song had a really great melody, that the original was a little [...]
