This is a trippy song to say the least. Léger really throws the bass into the mix here as the track develops. He's really taken his work to the next level by cleanly manipulating various different sounds. Enjoy this chune and happy Mother's Day! -Bart Bees (Original Mix) - Sebastian Léger

I'll be the first to admit that we haven't been updating the site as much as I'd like. There's a few reasons behind that. First, it's finals time! A few of us are still in college which means less music writing and more political science, business, and art history writing. Not an ideal world I guess. Second, I'm currently on a job hunt. I've been talking to some very exciting companies and it's looking like I'll have some new projects very soon. That doesn't mean anything for The Wild Honey Pie as I've been employed [...]

by Rachel Kowal , AgesAndAges photos by Tim Griffin After playing nine consecutive nights in New York (each at a different location) , I was impressed that Julie ("Jules") Baenziger, pictured above, managed to correctly identify the name of the venue - let alone put on an enthusiastic show. No doubt sharing the stage with three friends (including the lovely guitarist/vocalist Amber Padgett) helped to elevate her spirit. Some artists have a tendency to [...]

[photos by Amanda Hatfield ] We have seen She Keeps Bees five times in the last year, and they have never failed to deliver the goods. Of the 12 bands at our 2010 CMJ show , they were perhaps the best received of all the excellent acts. She Keeps Bees opening set at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday last was no exception. Due to the sound mix up in the balcony, Jessica's vocals were not as prominent as usual, but this gave us the opportunity to focus [...]

To get straight to the point, Sea of Bees (@seaofbees) puts on one of the most captivating, charming shows I've ever witnessed. The Cali-based quartet led by the charismatic Julie Ann Bee (otherwise known as Joolz) played Sycamore in Brooklyn this past Saturday night with The Loom , a show that left me gushing, seeping, and oozing with joy and excitement. Watching Joolz and company light up the stage with their bubbly personalities and limitless talents was something to behold. While I enjoyed [...]

Tweet We're used to getting treats on Record Store Day , but usually those that require a fight to the vinyl stacks or the hope that the person in front of you isn't pining for the same Arthur Russell LP. The crowd at Armadillo Music in Davis was rewarded for their patience with a brand new song from Sacramento's Sea of Bees , which won't be recorded for some time. Amongst friends and patrons of the record store, Julie Baezinger played an [...]

Apparently The Honorable Worm used to be a psychedelic folk band, but umm... well, not anymore! This is still folk music I suppose, but the style sounds more like a weird cross between drone and Gregorian Chant and that, in my opinion, is a very good thing. The Gregorian Chant association might not bother you young 'uns, but I doubt I am the only person of a certain age who used to fill in those postal album club things (where they sent you five free CDs on an introductory sale or return basis) in a variety of names [...]

photos by Amanda Hatfield While a crazy rain storm was happening outside Saturday night, Sharon Van Etten, Megafaun , and She Keeps Bees ( who replaced Little Scream ) played a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Lady Lamb the Beekeeper , who played a show at Fontana's earlier that day and who opened a few dates for Sharon last week, joined Sharon and band on a song during their [...]
We caught up with Sea of Bees (aka Sacramento singer-songwriter Julie Ann Baenziger) at Westminster Reference Library, a literal stone's throw from London's famous Leicester Square. In a cloistered corner just near a particularly menacing copy of The Shipman Inquiry findings , Baenziger took our breath away with a twisting, pangs-of-love laden rendition of 'Skinnybone', released on 103 vinyl today for Record Store Day and limited to 500 copies.

I Really Need Love - The Bees I Really Need Love - The Bees ( Free Download / Buy ) Isle of Wight's The Bees have clearly done their music history homework. Throughout their entire tenure as a band, they've incorporated, to their advantage, elements of garage rock, old school R&B, dub reggae, and world sounds. Having some mainstream success, they've always kept a somewhat low profile, usually touring and staying around their native England and surrounding U.K. territories. Starting as a recording project [...]
