Ever since I was old enough to complain, my dad took great pleasure in the act of dragging my always-resistant ass to music festivals. A summer full of glorious music for him meant a summer full of unstifled groans from me. His taste in music back then - folk, folk, and nothing but folk - meant we hit folk festivals exclusively, and he wasn't shy about tackling the big, multi-day camp-out fests that separate the men from the meek. I have fond, fuzzy memories of trying to enjoy the Philadelphia Folk Festival and basically roasting alive under an angry sun [...]

With FYF going on down in LA this weekend, we're getting a decent spillover of excellent shows up here in the Bay Area. Though not quite at Fauxchella levels, it's nice to have a Faux Your Festival going on right now. And since your regular host for this column, Dakin Hardwick, will be enjoying himself at [...]
Labor Day weekend FYF Fest will convert downtown LA into a haven for all music types alike. The young festival manages to coordinate one of the better festival lineups of the year. 2012 ubiquitous headliners M83, Refused, and Beirut are joined by the long silent The Faint and nearly a hundred other musical acts and [...]

Like many of you, I've been spending a lot of time today digging into Pitchfork's People's List and, while I think the 27,000+ voters got lots of stuff right, there was also plenty of albums I thought were criminally overlooked. So I turned those harbored resentments into a list (because that's just what bloggers do, right?). So, these are my picks of the albums from 1996-2011 that were robbed of their deserved People's List glory by the 88% male, urbanites that voted in this thing. I limited myself to one album per artist (otherwise you'd be getting a [...]

Visit Indie Shuffle to download. Song: Beirut - Nantes [download here ] What's so good? My favorite part of the song "Nantes"? The French back-and-forth that comes into play around the two-minute mark. I'm not sure which film it's from, but it's clearly indicative [...]
I may have mentioned it here before, but making mix tapes is one of my favorite hobbies. At some point during high school, which I mostly found unbearable, I distinctly remember thinking that I had all these great sad songs, but they were spread out over too many different albums. Why not combine them into one powerful tape of self-loathing? Seemed a great idea at the time. I don't know about anyone else, but when I'm feeling down, I just can't stand upbeat music. I'd rather play something that echoes my mood; it's always done a much better job of [...]

"It's hard to imagine how far we've come to here from Santa Fe, New Mexico," proclaimed Beirut singer/trumpeter Zach Condon, before the band itself clapped to thank the audience. It was a genuine "oh my god, I can't believe it, we've never been this far away from home" moment for Beirut - though of course they have been further - and it was poignant. On this, the last night of the band's North American tour, the audience arose, beaming, as if in a pre-emptive post-gig ovation, and swelled forward to the stage that they [...]

Just sitting around and feeling sorry for myself that I won't be seeing Beirut tomorrow night. Who says that they bought you tickets and then 2 months later they realize that they were drunk and didn't actually buy them? Anyways, here are some songs to get me through the weekend. *sidenote - if anyone in Vancouver is selling cheap/free tickets to tomorrow night's show then hit me up! Free mp3: Beirut - Nantes [...]
If you haven't yet had a good sit-down listening session with Kishi Bashi's great new album 151a, consider this video your reminder. Here K covers Beirut's "A Sunday Smile" with a string quartet. This seems to be a video from a studio recording, so here's hoping that gets released soon!

![[News] Indians Announces North American Tour](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4397343_lg.jpg)
Copenhagen solo musician Indians has made quite the impression on me, despite having only released two songs, both " Magic Kids " and " I Am Haunted ". Either way, Indians has been making immense progress so far this year, and that has turned into a great opportunity supporting indie rock outfit Other Lives during their North American tour this fall. The massive tour will kick off on October 19th in Boulder, CO, and will take both bands all across the continent for a total of 36 shows in 50 days. Check out the full tour [...]
