Ashland's Bel Auburn played their first show since 2009 (which was a rare, one-off gig; their last 'real' show was in 2007) in July. As a way to celebrate his 30th birthday on Friday, bassist Mark Abrams has flown in from Las Vegas and will perform with Bel Auburn at Hal & Al's (1297 Parsons Ave). The The Regionals are also on the bill. Here's Bel Auburn performing, for the first-time ever live, "Piper", a song they wrote the week my daughter was born 6 years ago, at [...]
Here's the lineup and tentative set times: * 9 p.m. - Doors open * 9:15 p.m. - Columbus Priority Mail - This one-man show features Andrew Choi singing lyrics out of a notebook over top jazzy/indie rock music he produced on his computer and loaded onto his iPod Nano. I caught CPM at the Green on the Green festival earlier this summer and found Choi's music to be really unique and different than anything I've experienced live in quite a long time. * 9:45 p.m. [...]
Bel Auburn plays a rare show in Columbus on Wednesday night at Circus (formerly the High Five). The Ashland-based band has been missing from the scene for a few years now - the buzz (and there was a buzz) surrounding their second full-length Lullabies in A&C seemed to hint at big things but just as quickly as they became blog darlings, life got in the way (jobs, marriages, births, etc.) and they became dormant. The good news is that the band has been working on two new releases and hope [...]
As mentioned in the introduction to our somewhat unorthodox end of the year Best Of list, the combination of our procrastination and our inability to make up or collective minds has led to your getting not one, but three, Best of the Bitch lists. Drewl and Chaddigan will have their chance later in the week, [...]

I admit I have a very soft spot for "little" bands--those extremely talented musicians who are working hard but who haven't made it to the big time, maybe don't even have a recording contract. Thank goodness for the Internet, their music is nonetheless available to us. We just have to find them. Bel Auburn is an exceptional example of one of those bands. If you like Snow Patrol , and Gary Lightbody and the Snow Patrol crew aren't keeping up with your needs, you should listen to these songs. [...]

Its really difficult to write about all the great and deserving bands that cross my radar. Especially in a timely fashion which will get the word out round about the time an album is getting ready to hit shelves. While many bloggers are always early to the party, and we are too lots of times, sometimes fashionably late is, well, fashionable. Such is the case with Ashland, Ohio's Bel Auburn . The debut album, "Lullibies in A and C" came out last month and there was some nice and deserved blog buzz surrounding [...]

I've been listening to Bel Auburn a lot lately, especially on bus rides to and from school. Their sound is straight up indie rock - nothing exactly groundbreaking, but undeniably well-executed and done so with such sincerity that they're still definite pleasure to listen to whilst watching the cityscape pass by. Their whole album Lullabies in A & C is available for download on their official website , so go crazy. Here's two songs I can't get out of my head. Bel Auburn - Metropolitan (Watercolor) Bel Auburn [...]
THIS WEEK'S FINDS week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2 "Los Angeles" - the Rosewood Thieves After the old-timey piano intro, the first thing you're likely to notice here is singer Erick Jordan's spunky vocal resemblance to John Lennon--whom he readily acknowledges as one of his musical heroes. (There's even a lyrical reference to "that bird that flew," for good measure.) If this already seems like a good thing, you're home free with this song; if however you're trained to be disapproving of transparent influences, I urge you to relax that learned reflex and [...]

Today, I'm highlighting 4 artists that I had never even HEARD of 7 days ago. I'm going to guess you've never heard of them either. That being said, this is one of my favorite assignments. 1. What Made Milwaukee Famous - Sweet Lady - This band is trapped somewhere between the upbeat meanderings of The Long Winters and the beautiful powerpop of Bleu, a location I might dare to describe as "heaven". This one is way [...]
Every now and then, I inexplicably just like indie rock. Here's some unsigned stuff from Bel Auburn, which band member Jared describes as: "Brit rock run through a Midwestern filter. With some clicks and beeps. And a very acute pop...

The return of Radiohead sound. This is utterly accidental post and no pattern, I promise. Bell Auburn is a 3 years old band from mid Ohio who just release their self published album Cathedrals . All recent Rock glitch tech are in there, The Flaming lips , Radiohead , and mid western rock ala Led Zeppeline One thing strike me from their album is the clarity of their recording, it's a highly crafted piece of audio engineering. I like the voice balance. Bell Auburn is from Ashland Ohio and consists [...]

Mp3 Soundtrack: Bel Auburn : Just Love Bel Auburn is a five piece indie pop band from Ashland, Ohio. Making music that has everybody abuzz , I conducted a short interview with them I have posted below. I am infinitely pleased that the band is not working in a balloon factory. Recently, the Hype Machine was declaring Bel Auburn the most blogged about band on the player. I [...]

Hey Tykeisha, a.k.a."Somethin'" from VH1's " Flavor of Love ," we hate to break it to you, but sadly you weren't the first maniac to take a big ol' poop on reality TV. That honor belongs to the always classy Johnny Fairplay of "Survivor" fame, who left a steaming pile of Puck on a fellow cast member's bed on E's " Kill Reality " program. But if you can't be number one, you can at least take solace in the fact that you will always be number two. Get it, number two! [...]

Bel Auburn, mid Ohio indie emotive rock. Their debut album Lullabies in A & C is beautifully crafted, and guess what - completely free. Yes, that is correct, Scott, Mark, Mark, Justin, & Jared have recorded an album; a beautiful album and released it themselves completely free. I would pay for this album, it's that good. Every song seems carefully crafted with so much passion behind it. Best of all, the group seems to be a set of great guys. With hard work by Jared, he has been getting all the blogs attention to get them out [...]

From time to time I field questions about why EAR FARM isn't talking about/featuring some of the current 'hot' indie bands or songs. This site has always operated under the assumption that not featuring certain music said all that needed to be said about those artists (from an EAR FARM perspective) and that there are already plenty of other sites giving service to these much talked about bands. Besides, when any music really scratches the EF itch it gets a mention. Still though...checking in each week with what's popular over at music blog aggregator Elbo.ws [...]

Lately, I have been experiencing a rare case of too-much-good-music-overload, which has put me in an indefinite state of euphoria. And of course as my duty to my fellow music community, I need to share these little pieces of endorphin-enhancing eargasms. Please enjoy! Brazilian Girls | "Jique" Cansei De Ser Sexy | "Alala" Shiny Toy Guns | "Le Disko" The Raconteurs | "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot me Down) (Nancy Sinatra Cover)" [...]

There is something about me that very few people know. It is kind of my dark little secret that only the real in crowd is aware of. I've lived in the Mid-Atlantic region as long as anyone can remember, so everyone assumes that I am from here. The truth is, I am from Ohio. Why would I admit this after all of these years? Well, I have finally heard something that makes me proud to be from Ohio. That my friends is the new album from Bel Auburn . [...]

Jared and the boys from Bel Auburn have been blitzing us bloggers with links to the band's new album, Lullabies in A & C. Coz of course, as you are probably aware, there have been quite a few bands who've leaped from obscurity to major (indie) success after being championed by blogs, message boards, podcasters and the various other new media outlets which have sprung up on the internet in the past few years. And who knows, with a bit of luck your band could be the next Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Tapes 'n Tapes or (gasp) Arctic Monkeys [...]
