For the Chicago heads, make sure you check out the Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival coming up on Saturday, Dec. 12. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are headlining the event and Dr. Dog is at the top of the bill, also. It looks like a fun time... MP3: Béla Fleck and the Flecktones - Sunset Road , Live at Vicar Street (Dublin) on Nov 4 2009 ( Live Music Archive ) Let me be plain: you have never seen anything like Béla Fleck and the Flecktones . This latest string of US dates is sometimes billed as a reunion of the founding lineup (the first in 18 years), but that's only technically true. The Flecktones have toured extensively over the past two decades, but only now are rejoined by "the Tall, Thin Flecktone," piano and [...]
Banjo legend Bela Fleck will be coming back to Ireland for the first time in years to play Vicar Street on November 4th. I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones supporting Dave Matthews Band at Randall's Island in New York a few years back and their live show is astounding. They are fantastic musicians. Every one of them. Tickets are €36 and are on sale now. Watch 'Next' live:

Please remember: When you start your new job, that people who work with you will be different from your former co-workers. Personalities you encounter will be diverse and unique. If someone presents you with an idea that you find strange and confusing, listen patiently and ask questions later. Don't snap at them, ya turtlehead! HAPPY HOLIDAYS from the GMC Christmas Medley - Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Album

Here's my shotgun approach to the holidaze, a hand-picked selection of tracks from albums that have been facilitating my aural merriment and mirth. Okay, I'm a liar. I know I said I wouldn't do a Christmas/Holidaze post when I reviewed what is now my favorite Christmas album of the year . (If you go to that review , you'll find a few nuggets that aren't in this post.) But I was already a liar when I posted The Raveonette's new Xmas track . So in the spirit of lying, I decided to do some detective work and make a big ol' Holiday post for y'all. Call me a sell-out, call me what you [...]
Sad news from LA -- LeRoi Moore , 46, saxophone player with the Dave Matthews Band , died Tuesday afternoon, August 19. Moore was in Los Angeles for a physical rehabilitation program to heal his injuries. His injuries including a punctured lung and broken ribs. The band played as scheduled Tuesday night at the Staples Center [...]

MP3: Bela Fleck - Foggy Mountain Special from Bluegrass Sessions V.2 If you are a musician, especially an instrumentalist, you have likely heard the name Bela Fleck. If you are a lover of bluegrass, you have likely heard the name Bela Fleck. If you are a banjo lover, you have likely heard the name Bela Fleck. The list goes on, endlessly. Bela Fleck is one of the most versatile musicians of our time, excelling as both an genre-defying instrumentalist and arranger. His instrument of choice: [...]
Notice to reader: you are far from Hollywood's portrayal of banjo players. Throw out the image of that porch-dwelling, uncultured farmer chewing on a sliver of hay. B éla Fleck ( Wiki ) is an accomplished, virtuoso-level instrumentalist who I can't wait to see with Abigail Washburn at Bonnaroo next week. Fleck is New York city native named after famed composer Béla Bartok and has played the banjo since age 15. Forming the Flecktones in 1989, Fleck and his crew are known for "raging eclecticism," dwelling on [...]

"Amazing grace how sweet the sound/That saved a wretch like me/ I once was lost but now I'm found/Was blind but now I see" Second Hand Songs lists The Beatles as the most covered artist in existence, but I have to argue that Traditional is the rightful bearer of the title. Not much is known about the man, but it seems like pretty much every artist out there has been drawn to his music at some point or another. In this post alone we feature [...]

Today is a different kind of summer than last week. Today's summer is the kind where every time you move, you sweat, so you end up sitting still for hours at a time. It's the kind where your brain melts and putting together sentences becomes next to impossible. It's the kind where your friends are somehow having fun outside playing frisbee and are about to go see Peyton Manning speak, but if you leave your fan for a second you think you'll die, or worse. It's the kind of day way too miserable for lyrics, so [...]
Yep, it's that time of the year . And as usual, the nominations are mostly bullsh*t. With that said, good luck to the following: Neil Young , nominated for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album Tom Petty , nominated for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Album Béla Fleck & The Flecktones , nominated for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and Best Contemporary Jazz Album Bob Dylan , nominated for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Contemporary Folk/Americana [...]
