After a week away, it was nice to be back in the studio. This week I played several folk-related tunes, a few garage-based ones, and a small handful of indie pop tracks. With the amount of indie-folk I've played of late, I'm thinking we're in store for another dreamy mix and maybe even a garage rock mix in the near future. Andi and I have been on a DIY kick of late and a recent project has been homemade laundry detergent. With the three ingredients displayed in the photo above, along [...]

We've taken our sweet time to get round to listening to this EP by Bel Air . Titled Fall (see, told you) this is the third instalment in their 'Seasons' EP project. It is four tracks of indie rock shot through with a dose of dusty Americana. Try the energetic guitar work on the rather epic Bigfoot Camaro .

"There's a term called 'Echotone'...where nature and civilization meet." The meeting of nature and civilization is more like a collision and it is loud . The collision of condos and night clubs is loud. The collision of SXSW and Austin is loud. The collision of artist and businessman is loud. The collision of art and commerce is loud. Echotone is loud, and is another music documentary that should be played loud. Directed by Nathan Christ and photographed by Robert Garza, Echotone is a multifaceted and pragmatic look at [...]

When I think of Autumn, I think of turning leaves, warm scarves and comfy hoodies. But most importantly, I think of Beck and Andrew W.K. Why? I couldn't tell you. I'm guessing I just listened to those bros a lot when I went back to school. Enjoy the mix and be sure to support the artists if you find something new you like. Andrew W.K. - "It's Time To Party" LMFAO - "Sexy And I Know It" Surfer Blood - "Swim" Madonna [...]

Echotone is back home! The doc about the Red River music scene + its collision with Austin's runaway population growth just enjoyed a run in NYC (where they received this glowing review in the Village Voice) and is now playing nightly all week (10pm) @ Alamo South Lamar. Your chance to see Black Joe Lewis , Bill Baird , Belaire , Dana Falconberry and more of our favorites projected large. Basically: if you read the Deli Austin, this is a must see.

I have to admit that the only Bel Air I remember from the early 1960s was the Chevrolet model carrying the name - although I might have been vaguely aware of the affluent section of Los Angeles that the auto was presumably named for. But it turns out that one of the songs that was often playing on the radio in those days was the work of a very good - if short-lived - instrumental group that went by the same name. The Bel Airs came to life during the days when the California surf sound [...]

I hope you are ready for a heaping spoonful of what I've been eating because that is what you'll get if you download the June mix - and trust me I eat very well now days. The June mix is chock full of the new stuff I've been listening to (except I left the National & Male Bonding off of it - and I can't get enough of High Violet especially) including Sex Church , Teen Daze , DOM , Rayon Beach, Hoodie Allen (a Single Serving to follow soon), [...]

We've had a good run of shows lately over at Fort Useless . And we've got another one this Saturday we're excited for: Holy Moly will get the night started at 8:30pm. They play conuntry/folk-rock tunes that rely on extremely well-crafted songwriting and have become sort of a de-facto house band for the venue. Next up at 9:30pm (after a slight schedule change - they were originally going to be on at 10:30pm) will be Bel Air . They play nicely twangy pop songs and occasional ballads with an interesting dynamic [...]

After a hyperactive beginning of the year, the Grim Reaper took it mercifully easy on the world of music in February. So featured this month are some musicians who left us during the month past (and one of them died on the last day of January). As always, I don't claim that this list is complete. * * * Herman Dunham , 73, doo wop singer with The Solitaires, the Vocaleers and The Blenders, on January 31 The Solitaires [...]

If you are looking for a new soundtrack to heartbreak, look no further than the just released (on 73 vinyl) 2 song EP, Into The Sea , by Brooklyn-based band Bel Air . The twangy pop instrumentation underneath the melodic, easy vocals of Allison Langerak on "You Can't Do Much" reminds us of the cruel paralysis of a broken heart and the hope that they still might come around: "Baby, Rescue Me/ You Know Where I Am". The song is accompanied by a Mazzy Star sort of arpeggiated guitar, but is driven by Langerak's powerful sentiment. Hers is a bold, ready voice - [...]
Filed under: News , R.I.P. Surf-rock drummer turned publisher Richard Delvy -- who played in one of the genre's first bands, the Bel-Airs -- has died. According to the Hollywood Reporter , Delvy, 67, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, at a California hospital after a prolonged sickness. Delvy first got his start as a drummer and producer but his business acumen was equally impressive during his music career. Originally from Bridgeport, Conn., he moved to California at 20 years old and began playing with the Bel-Airs. That group [...]
