Bell X1 are one of Ireland's biggest selling acts in the last few years on the back of three highly acclaimed albums. Damien Rice used to be their lead singer, back when they went by the name Juniper. And, uh, their song "Eve, The Apple Of My Eye" was used during a lesbian kiss scene on The OC . Their latest album, Flock , was first released in Ireland in 2005, but has just been released in the US earlier this year. You may have caught these guys on [...]
Over the course of two albums Man Man have declared with unwavering sincerity that they are a force to reckon with. Of course the statement is backed by their always rambunctious live shows and the fact that they do things on their own terms. With their third album, Rabbit Habits, the band continue to create music the way they want to and the result is nothing short of amazing. Rabbit Habits

Bell X1 and David Ford are making a stop in Philly. You can catch them at World Cafe Live tonight. Bell X1 - Rocky Took A Lover David Ford - Go To Hell
This Tuesday, we're excited about Baumer's release of Going Away White , the very busy Bing Ji Ling's third LP June Degrees In December and OaK's Songs For Waiting . I might as also mention a little birdie has been jamming Panda Riot a lot recently and I've really taken to. Check them out on their website or myspace page . If you're looking for some new MP3's and recent music, a recent favorite of ours, largeheartedboy does a fantastic job week in [...]

Bell X1 immediately struck me as an odd name for a band when I first noticed them this week. Its amazing it can take some music to move from overseas to the States, and Bell X1's previous albums, which had no exposure to the US, can be said of this. Already making an impact on the US market, the Irish band's latest album Flock has been an immediate success. Although the album had been released in the UK in 2006, the recent release of Flock this past [...]
So I've been meaning to become part of this music writing group for a while now but in all honesty, another task in my daily life had seemed daunting to me up until this point. The big BUT(!) I had to write about Bell X1, this is a band that I've been following for a while now and that i have recently become very enchanted with. I feel they are on the verge of breaking the states, and that this style of music will be a big thing within the indie community. I could be wrong, but [...]
"If you're into that sort of thing" usually comes with a negative connotation, but I don't mean it when I talk about Bell X1 1 . Coming from Ireland, these guys were once in the band Juniper, with Damien Rice. Now they're doing a whole lot of shows in the US for their record, Flock (out last month here in America). The record's been tops in Ireland and now they're trying to make the transition over here. They bring an updated feel to what's been established as that Northeast European sound. It's mellow pop-rock [...]

This week we're treated to a deluge of new releases; so many, in fact, that I don't even know where to begin. I've yet to listen to many of these, which currently sit on my overflowing stack of promo discs waiting to be heard. A few that I can recommend right now include the sophomore effort Some Racing, Some Stopping from Headlights , Throw Me the Statue's Moonbeams and The Raveonettes' Lust Lust Lust . I just received the new Mountain Goats album, so [...]

New Releases this week include one we have been looking forward to for quite some time, The Raveonettes (Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foowith) with their fourth full length album Lust Lust Lust . American Music Club has also released a new album today, which we wrote a little diddy on yesterday , and so does Ray Davies , lead singer, chief songwriter, and rhythm guitarist from the Kinks . Below are links to [...]
When Paul Noonan was living in Smithfield in Dublin, he got to know Rocky, a homeless guy living across the way from him. One night, Paul saw that Rocky had a lady companion. And so he wrote this song for them, for Rocky and his Lover. And it's kinda brilliant. Here they are on Conan O'Brien's show, rocking out in a hilariously non-profane way . Wouldja go away and -ite , indeed! Do check out the Conan performance, for it's rather lovely, but to save you the arduous task [...]
Bell X1's "Rocky Took A Lover" from their new album "Flock." Originally from MPR: The Current Song of the Day on February 10, 2008, 11:00pm

Seriously, I intended to take today off but in my meanderings around the internets, I found some concert announcements. And then some more concert announcements. And then some more. And so I took them, threw them in a pot, added some broth, a potato. Baby, I've got a stew going. So here we go, quick like bunny. 'Cause I need to go get groceries. Of all the announcements, the only one that I would have immediately decided to attend was The Long Blondes' May 22 date at Lee's Palace, and [...]

It hasn't been long since we got a copy of new music by Irish band BELL X1 . But ever since the day we put the cd in our players we decided it would be a long time before the record would come out of office rotation. The funny thing is we've heard the band before, but never "heard" the band before. They rose from the ashes of the defunct outfit Juniper (which featured a young Damien Rice ) and had their whimsical blend of pop harmonies and quirky gorgeousness catch the ear of [...]

"we didn't want to put out a charity album just for the sake of it." brian crosby, guitarist and keyboard player in irish band bell x1 is in nyc this week for cmj - just checking it out. and he was nice enough to spend a minute catching up with me and telling me every secret known to man in ireland. (just kidding). we talked a teensy bit about other irish artists, but mostly we chatted about the cake sale . this is an album that brian orchestrated. it features many [...]

Thanks to gmail, we can always go back to earlier times and see how we were, what we were doing, who we were doing, what it felt like to be me. I was 21 when I wrote this, I am 23 now. I was working for the Boys Club of New York, tutoring children. I was an intern at the lit mag n+1. I was in the first year of the MFA program in fiction writing at The New School. I lived on E. 14th Street and 2nd avenue. And I was the same in some ways. In other [...]
