The latest single to drop from Bell X1 's Bloodless Coup LP, 'Sugar High' is set for release on November 25th. Talking about the background to 'Sugar High', Paul Noonan comments: "Ireland is in ways a microcosm or concentrated dose of the madness that has us all sloshing around in the shit. The song began as a debauched HR Giger vision of the Fianna Fail tent at the Galway Races, with all the boys out of their minds, riding each other...on a Sugar High." The video was [...]
The video for Bell X12s 'Sugar High' was directed by Shane Delahunty, Eoin Brennan and Eoin Cody, part of the Folks and Folks collective. The track is from Bloodless Coup. Bell X1 play the Savoy on December 10, supported by Jape, which should be a great gig. More Bell X1 [Read more]
Bell X1 have lined up a midnight show for Saturday 17th of December in Olympia Theatre with all proceeds going towards the Capuchin Day Centre , a homeless centre based on Bow Street, Dublin 7. Paul from the band used to live in the area and it was here he got to know Rocky, about whom the song Rocky Took a Lover was written. Rocky was one of the many who were fed and looked after by the centre. Since the recession, the numbers attending the centre have doubled, and so they are under [...]

A third time for The Minutes to be my 'Amhrán Gach Lá' artist but this in celebration of some great news from Other Voices. Here's The Minutes performing 'Fleetwood' for the Other Voices TV programme last year. Great news for Irish bands number 1: Other Voices has just sold to GlassBOX Television in Canada for AUX TV . Raw, authentic and intimate the channel uncovers some of the best artists from rock to hip hop. AUX TV features music videos, live performances, movies, event documentaries, interviews [...]

Many years ago I fell in love with Coldplay , and I'm not ashamed to say it. Earlier this year I discovered Bell X1 . Now I've been drawn into the small field of fans supporting the band Popcult - and this is a group of fans I guarantee you will be growing heavily over the next few years. Like a fusion of Bell X1 and Coldplay, Popcult utilizes sweeping vocals and harmonious guitar, piano and synthesizers to create a soothing sound that rests in one's ears with a gentle ambivalence. Their self titled [...]

Hmmm...here's one that kinda slipped by me. At the end of last month, Bell X1 revealed the new video for '4 Minute Mile', the second single from their fifth studio album, Bloodless Coup . The video, which was shot in Berlin, was directed by Jan Von Holleben and features a couple of cool young lads and a whole heap of colourful balls (minds out of the gutters people!). Yep, I'm totally late with this, but '4 Minute Mile''s groovy [...]

Rating: 8.1/10 Sometimes when artists try to change their sound, it goes horribly wrong. It can feel unnatural and forced, like a pre-teen girl experimenting with mascara. On their newish album Bloodless Coup, Bell X1 has made change work. But rather than piling on the Maybelline the trio has added new layers of electro beats and synths that mesh seamlessly with the acoustic guitar and piano that distinguished the Irishmen's earlier tunes. All the things you loved about Bell X1 are still there; the mix of new electro [...]

The News of the World is Dead long live my world! Any old excuse to share a Juniper track with that infamous Dodi Ma [Damien Rice] on vocals!

Remember when Jif became Cif? Or when Marathon became Snickers? Some name changes happen for the better like when BackRub changed to Google! Can you imagine saying I'm going to BackRub that instead of Google it! Anyway an Irish band last year changed their name from the decent name 'Hoarsebox' to the generic 'This Club'! I liked the Hoarsebox name for virtue of the fact all band members sing and there's normally some lovely 4 part harmonies in their songs. [...]
The Irish band Bell X1, who took their name from the first aircraft that exceeded the speed of sound, are releasing their fifth album "Bloodless Coup" and this track is taken from it. The funny video was shot in Berlin and is all about balls rolling, kids and colors. Have a listen to "Velcro" and "Hey [...]

Je zou kunnen zeggen dat wij hier op de ASP redactie fan zijn van de nieuwe Bell X1 plaat. Oke, dat is gelogen. Ondergetekende draait Bloodless Coup vooral heel vaak. In zijn kamertje. Thuis. Niet op een redactievloer. Maar...

If you dig tracks replete with enormous bass riffs, distorted sing-a-long choruses, and disco-era Stones beats, then Bell X12s "Four Minute Mile" was invented for you. The ultra fresh music video is the latest in a string of mod visuals (see " Hey Anna Lena " and " Velcro ") from Bell X12s early April release Bloodless Coup via Belly Up Records. Check here to catch any dates on the tail end of Bell X12s Bloodless Coup tour, and follow them on twitter @BellX1 for info regarding [...]
Happy Wednesday, have fun: ► My Morning Jacket roars into the Pantages Theatre behind its new album "Circuital," and if you aren't lucky enough to see the sold-out show, there's plenty of footage online — including director Todd Haynes' narrative for the "Unstaged" series from MMJ's May 31 show in Louisville (which included a guest turn by Erykah Badu). Local quintet Everest opens tonight's show. ► Singer Carina Round's new project Early Winters plays the Bootleg Theater, supported by Nicole Eva Emery and Haroula Rose . [...]

This week is Gemma Hayes Week on Rarities ! Starting now, one post on Rarities every day will be dedicated to the wonderfully talented and beautiful songstress. Over the next few days, I will take a look at Gemma's finest singles, most captivating covers and maybe even get in an interview with the lady herself! Today, let's kick off with a review of her brand new studio album Let It Break (released 27th May), her first since 2008′s The Hollow of Morning [...]
Bell X1 make a half-assed attempt to infuse their tepid style with some Radiohead inspired electro production. It's pretty safe to conclude at this point that remaining members of Juniper (now known as Bell X1) have emerged out of the shadows of "that band that Damien Rice used to be in." Probably because Damien Rice's own solo career has taken a nose dive into obscurity -- his last album was 9 back in 2006. That's not to say that Bell X1 has made a monumental name for themselves. Instead, those that gave...
