It's that time of year again, when you're probably already feeling a little ill, having gorged on the myriad best-ofs of the various music blogs you frequent - well tough, I'm posting mine. Was this year better than last year? I say yes. I certainly listened to more albums this year than last year, when it seemed to be mostly songs. There were a few disappointments in 2007, but many great new discoveries, most of which have made it here. It bears mentioning that my favourite song of this year is without doubt better than last year's. Anyway, the rules! [...]
On February 12th The Bell will release Make Some Quiet on Badman Recordng and it's also the first 2008 release to get stamped with our We Like stamp of approval. Make Some Quiet channels vintage Joy Division and The Cure with a smattering of Turn On the Bright Lights era Interpol . The Bell hail from Sweden, and their first single, "I Am History" was recently featured as the NPR [...]

So I have not read any interesting music news lately. I did see Juno like a week ago and it was awesome. Funny and kind of moving. The music was good to. Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth songs are in it. Plus it made me want an Arrested Development movie even more which I think will eventually happen. So to recap go see Juno and check out some songs I like after the poster. The first song is highly recommended Throw Me the Statue [...]

The Bell Genre: Indie / Pop / Alternative From: Malmo/Stockholm, Sweden Swedish glum rockers The Bell take me back to those distant days of my youth bequiffed and clad in a dead man's overcoat. Their reverb drenched, hazy shimmering neo psychedelia and delicate fronds of sound is eerily reminscent of 80s post punk scouse rockers [...]
I'm sorry for the lack of post during the past week, but I was suffering from very severe illness...well, for me it felt like it was very severe, but in reality it was nothing more than a flu. Anyways, since it it this time of the year - no, I won't be putting up endless Christmas songs, phffsh - the 'Top of 2007' lists keep rolling over the blogs, and I thought, I should do my bit. So, right now
Like drum machines, wiry guitar and Swedish post punk from kids who grew up on the Bunnymen? Yeah you do. The Bell have been moderately pushing the envelope since 2006, but the recent release of their debut LP Make Some Quiet will only reaffirm our power crush on Stockholm's exports. The Bell - I Am History The Bell - On And On The Bell - Do You Know How To Feel? Not sure if it's available in the states [...]

From around the sphere - by email, diligent seeking, pony express - myriad pleasure-inducing aural experiences aggregate in this little corner, begging to be bruited. I for one am thankful, and in the particular country in which I reside, that is especially appropriate tomorrow. "Shut up and post," booms my Blogospherial Overlord, and I am only too happy to comply. Just NowThe Manhattan Love

Here are some new samples from two of my favourites this year - The Bell and The Mary Onettes. As you might know both bands are from Sweden, but that's not the only thing they have in common: they are influenced by 80s and 90s indie music, combined with originality and great hooks. THE BELL Earlier this autumn we presented the great song "I am History" by The Bell . The Bell released their [...]

Auf welche URL kommt man zwangsläufig bei den Themen Schwedische Musik und 80er orientieter Gitarrenpop? Na? Natürlich auf unseren Lieblingsblog Coast is Clear . Was die One man Show aus Kiel immer wieder ausgräbt, ist klasse. Hier die neuste Entdeckung: The Bell. Wo kommen die her? Natürlich aus Schweden. Was machen die so?
It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Bell . Their sound is a unique blend of styles ranging from classical to jazz to pop to rock to lounge to experimental - pretty much everything I enjoy gets touched upon in one way or another. As a result, I generally try to catch any of Olga Bell's shows that I can. And sadly my schedule has been such that I've missed out on most of her recent concert appearances. Sigh. Don't cry for me though. This post is me [...]
I Am Bones has swapped in yet another new track on myspace, this time it's "Baby, together we can live with ourselves" : http://www.myspace.com/iambone sband
In celebration of the fact that the storm-related blockwide (or more) brownout affecting my neighborhood for the past 24 hours hasn't affected my Internet access, here is a post! I figure posting for the first time in weeks is a good way to pass the time while I wait for everything in my refrigerator to melt and spoil. The Raincoats "Lola" (Kinks cover) For a while there, everyone seemed to want to know my opinion of the NY Post's "Best 100 Cover Songs of All Time" [...]

YAY for Sweden! Just when i thought you'd left me or gone into hibernation, you come back with a little bit of musical love for me. The Bell is a soothing breath of fresh air in the bloghouse world. 'I Am History' is the first single off the LP and sounds like an upbeat Interpol song b/c of the echoing, melodic guitars and he has that powerful, brooding voice like Paul's. The second track got reworked by Curtis Vodka. I love the fact that he takes himself lightly enough to label it the ' stereotypical [...]

The first time I listened to The Bell's 80s inspired alternative pop i jumped in my chair. This is great indie pop, not so unlike the sound of the swedes in The Mary Onettes. The Bell is a trio from Malmö and Stockholm, and contains Nicklas Nilsson (instruments), Jan Petterson (instruments) and Mathias Stromberg (vocals). Their debut album «Make some quiet» will be released in September on Badman Recordings. The great single "I am History" is not the only good song from The Bell - check out the bands Myspace for more good songs. [...]

Last year I posted a few words on the EP by NY quartet Murder Mystery and now that the band has released their debut album, it's time to post a few more. The name of the 12 track album is Are You Ready for the Heartache Cause Here it Comes and perhaps it's a bit on the short side with a running time of just 33 minutes. But all 12 tracks are little pop gems (I used that description the first time round as well) and certainly no [...]
