Back for the Attack: Monday Mail What is Monday Mail? I took the red eye in this morning from LA. I really think the red eye is drugs. There's nothing quite like wandering around JFK at 5:30 AM, riding the A train pre-commuters and then watching the sun rise from Nostrand Ave. The west coast was fantastic. It's so bright and shiny out there. I went to the beach, swam a lot and of course spent lots of QT with A. I also saw The [...]

We have been subjecting ourselves to England`s dismal display at the Fifa World Cup In South Africa. With a must win game this Wednesday, delving through our recent promotional Emails is a far more exciting prospect than watching eleven overpaid prima donnas crash and burn to lower ranking teams. If the English team showed a fraction of the commitment and desire the USA squad have given this tournament, the UK press and football loving public would be a little more forgiving. Enjoy the music. Multidimensional DC band Bellfur just released their new album, Asleep.Asleep. , the follow-up to their 2009 EP, Last Quarter of the 20th Century Blues . The album is an atmospheric and moving work of singularity that was recorded over the course of two and a half years with the help of members from Deleted Scenes, Exit Clov, Pree, Le Loup, and Meredith Bragg. I've played this one a bunch lately. See what you think with a tune from the album featured below. Insect Politics mp3 [...]

mp3: Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band -- "Leaving Trails" Seems deeper, maybe more fuzzed, maybe less playful than the previous release, though no big changes. Still a good song. Their s/t was one of my faves in 2009 , this time around I hope they get the recognition they deserve. Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band 's new album, Where The Messengers Meet , is out in August. mp3: Sunglasses -- "Whiplash" Really like this band from GA. Get [...]

Bellflur is a DC-area band that has apparently crossed truth serums with Band of Horses to create its new look! I jest. Fun picture. The band's new CD is " asleep, asleep " and here's the song "Insect Politics" from it. Dreamy. Loquacious. Invigorating. "Bellflur has been likened to everything from Radiohead to a Salvador Dali painting, but whatever the comparison, the band has progressed by sculpting something unique and unapologetic. With a growing chatter about the Bellflur’s symphonic live shows and the press accolades already coming in [...]

Fans of Bellflur's 2008 "Read.Walk.Take.Talk" can look forward to this Friday's CD release show at IOTA followed by the their new full-length record, "asleep.asleep." on June 8, 2010. It's a big month for them and we had guitarist Patrick Edwards give us his take on their new sound. AON: It's been a few years since your last full release, "Read.Walk.Take.Talk". How, if at all, have the band progressed musically since then and what can we expect from the new album? Patrick: Since "Read.Walk.Take.Talk" bellflur [...]
We’re wrapping up Exit Clov’s blog takeover with Em and Suz’s personal selections for your Clov-themed weekend to come... Next week it’s just me flying solo here at TVD for a change. (Odd, huh?)

Washington D.C.'s Bellflur make a nice escape on their recent EP, Last Quarter of the 20th Century Blues . The record is dense with keyboards, revealing harmonies, roaming percussion, and atmospheres reminscent of everything from 1990's Chicago scene to elsewhere sound-sculptors such as Sigur Ros. Throughout the five song work, movements are grown and destroyed with a harmonious touch sure to bring to mind many other influences. sound: [...]

I apologize for my online absence - but there's some good stuff coming - I promise. That includes this selection of three noteworthy new artists of course: Sleep Whale - After a beautiful debut EP and an equally strong full-length both released this year, it was clear to me that Sleep Whale (originally known as Mom) were a band worthy of mention here. The (almost) entirely instrumental Little Brite EP (first released in 07) showed a band that could build gorgeous soundscapes [...]

Time flies when you're having fun! It's hard to believe that it's been week since I posted the triple whammy Ten Tracks You Need but it has and we're back again with yet another one! Traffic has been insane since last week thanks to those three posts so thank you to everyone who stopped by and checked them out and then continued to check things out. This week we're all over the place again and there's a ton of bonus zip files to check out. So rather than me rambling on and on just hop to it, [...]
Listen to the Bellflur single “Grey Sparkle Finnish Pig” here: http://tinyurl.com/bellflur-gr eysparklefinnishpig “There was an old upright piano in the backyard of the farmhouse I lived in. When I would drive away at night, a piano with deer around it would appear out of nowhere. The spooky image of animals in suits using abandoned instruments to make music stuck with me.” - Carlos Gonzalez-Fernandez , Bellflur . “…at times reminiscent of Sigur Ros and Pink Floyd , the group manages to impart a unique intimacy and [...]
Last Quarter of the 20th Century Blues» . Link [...]
