The European Revolutions of 1848, known in some countries as the Spring of Nations, Springtime of the Peoples or the Year of Revolution, were a series of political upheavals throughout Europe. Described by some historians as a revolutionary wave, the period of unrest began in France, with the French Revolution of 1848, and soon spread to the rest of Europe. Although most of the revolutions were quickly put down, there was a significant amount of violence in many areas, with tens of thousands of people tortured and/or killed. While the immediate political effects of the revolutions were largely [...]

Photographs courtesy of Jonathan Fisher. When we get to Swn , it is uncommonly early. Those of you unfortunate enough to have ever gone travelling with me will testify that, with Megabus booking in hand, my normal grace and poise (ahem) morph into what some with a looser grasp of the implications of such might term "fascism". Having legged it for the coach (I have packed for three weeks, and it doesn't half hinder my athletic (desperately unfit) sprint (plundering) down Victoria towards the coach station), we arrive, knackered and parched, and head straight for [...]

I always wonder if artists think their fans are annoying. I tweet at artists all the time and sometimes they reply. This week I had to rappers tweet at me. Well, one of the re-tweeted me. People like Cage and MC Paul Barman who write back are so awesome. Thanks for being cool with the fans guys. I already could personally relate to the music but to see a real side seals the deal for me.

Date Monday, October 19th Location Emos Doors 900p Tickets $14 @ the Door I've been in love with Pinback since I was a young budding music fan, so now that the band is older, as am I, I always take in a chance to go see one of my favorite bands play a solid set. Their intricate maneuvering behind their [...]
I'm not sleeping well. The last two mornings in Birmingham I woke up at 6:30am and couldn't get back to sleep. My first morning back in Los Angeles I woke up again and couldn't get back to sleep. Last night I thought if I stayed out late enough it would tire me out completely. So, I stayed out until after 3:00am, then passed out and woke up 2 hours later. I did not fall back asleep. I cannot explain how annoying this is. I hate feeling stressed. It ends up ruining everything from sleep patterns to, uh...other stuff. One of [...]
As Brooklyn Vegan so awesomely points out, San Diego's Black Heart Procession is hitting the road throughout October and November in support of its forthcoming seventh latest LP, the aptly titled Six . As previously reported , the 13-track affair is due out on October 6th and is said to be full of the band's "trademark hauntingly bittersweet chamber pop." BHP mainstays Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel will be joined on the tour by Matt Resovich (BHP, Rafter, The Album Leaf) on violin, Jovi Butts (Mr. Tube and The Flying Objects) [...]

Oh these busy, busy days. I wish they could all begin with ice cream and end with root beer floats! I'd weigh 900 pounds and be severely diabetic (maybe even dead!), but the pure sugary bliss running through my veins would be so totally worth it! Nicci's mom called reveille at 8:00am this morning. I hopped in the shower and met the girls downstairs for a quick breakfast (a cup of orange juice) before hitting the road for the 31st Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival. We arrived shortly after 9:30am, and although the [...]
I forgot to blog yesterday. Too much happened. So I'm back-dating this entry to Sunday Night because...oh, if only my night had gone well enough for me to get this thing done. I keep repeating the words from that Partridge Family song "C'mon, Get Happy" but instead of the traditional lyrics I've been substituting my own version: Trav'lin' along there's a song that I'm singin' / "C'mon get depressed" That said, here's your mix tape. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth [...]
Nicci bought me three beers tonight and told me to consider it a donation to the website. In turn, I bought myself a $22 bottle of beer. Thanks, Nicci. Now you can all watch me get drunk on beer while I type about what happened to me today. I'll type very slowly so the story will grow more confusing as it progresses. Right now I'm working on my first beer of the night, the $22 bottle of North Coast Old Rasputin XII . Batch #3. Aged for 9 months in 12-year bourbon barrels. ABV of 11.5%. Seriously, I think [...]

Nothing qualifies the sound and essence of Morakestra more than El Paso. Founders and key creative minds David and Will Mora are twin brothers who were proudly born and raised in the West Texas border city. Fellow El Pasoan Jim Ward contributed to the rebirth of Morakestra via production and recording of the band's latest album, Witness to Connection, out June 2nd on indie label Stratking Records. A musical legend in El Paso, Ward founded post-hardcore innovators At the Drive-In, rock quintet Sparta and alt-country act Sleepercar. Witness to Connection is the first for Ward's new producing partnership [...]

The Wal-Mart by my house is an absolute circus. If it's not the grossly understaffed work force, it's the whining kids and generally bile-bubbling flutter of cost cutting tension. Even with all of the mayhem associated with a simple trip to Wally Mart, there are even more factors that raise my ire to dangerous levels. Okay, I snore. I'm not going to be shy about it. When I pass out, especially after a night of booze, you don't really want to be anywhere near me unless you have an iPod turned all the way up. A guy like me needs [...]

The inenarrable godhead of delight? Love is a flame:-we have beaconed the world's night. A city:-and we have built it, these and I. An emperor:-we have taught the world to die. So, for their sakes I loved, ere I go hence, And the high cause of Love's magnificence, And to keep loyalties young, I'll write those names Golden for ever, eagles, crying flames, And set them as a banner, that men may know, To dare the generations, burn, and blow Out on the wind of Time, shining and streaming .
