A few months back, Paul Michel invited us to the set of the video shoot for the lead single off of his upcoming full length. The album, JUNE, will be out this spring, but Paul teases us yet again with a new single and another great video clip. The slick performance video for the new single, "Statues," was shot by filmmaker Fernando Ortega at the Rock n' Roll Hotel. Tonight, Paul and the band will be celebrating the release of the new video with a live show at the Black Cat, along with [...]

Bea Arthur is not a meme, OK. I want to take a serious moment to appreciate all that Dorothy and The Golden Girls have given us, while also examining what role, if any, these Miami post-panthers have had on some of the music you appreciate today. Sure, she taught us crucial pre-Degrassi lessons about teen pregnancy, infidelity, and accepting cross-dressing siblings. But what does Bea have to do with beats? We asked a few of our favorite musicians that very question. How has Bea Arthur and/or the GGs in general influenced your musical career? Thomas [...]

Yeah, it is about that time for bands to migrate southward towards Austin and the music festival know as SXSW. Philly and Baltimore are very sparse, DC has a bit more. Guess we will see a surge in the coming weeks as bands come home or continue their tours. Still, some great shows to see this weekend. Here is what's happening: Bell X1 (via bands myspace) With their new album Blue Lights on the Runway just released [...]

Bellman Barker - Top of the Stairs Bellman Barker are these five guys living in DC whose goal in band-life seems to be to get an Exit Clov-like following. Maybe they're on the way, maybe not, but one thing's for sure...I'm kind of starting to like their EP. The music's high on the melodrama, but I won't hold that against them... (Also, their bassist looks EXACTLY like my friend Chris, who's in Argentina right now.) Kudos to these guys for touring with Mugison . Bellman Barker's website / myspace [...]

Photo By Ari Magg The crazy man from the Great North, also known as Mugison from Iceland, is about to invade the region this week. He's been all over the place lately, garnering praise from Paste and even us . Now, you can finally see what all the hype is about. For the entire east coast portion of his tour, DC's own Bellman Barker is providing support. When they played our Anniversary show last month, they debuted a great new track called "Last Name." Over the weekend, they recorded [...]

Our good friends and amazing DC band, Bellman Barker, have just informed us of a new tour that they've embarked on. You won't be disappointed. Check the dates after the jump or... just look at the flier. mp3: Bellman Barker - Two Bees mp3: Mugison - Mugiboogie [...]

It's the unofficial last weekend of summer. Those of you that are not heading towards the coast, have a few options available. There are mostly local acts playing local venues, with a couple big name shows thrown in for good measure. Austin is representing this weekend at Towson University, when What Made Milwaukee Famous takes the stage. They are on tour in support of their new album What Doesn't Kill Us and I definitely recommend it. Those of you in Philly can [...]
It's been quite the busy year for These United States. This past spring they released their (wonderful) debut album, A Picture of the Three of Us at the Gate to the Garden of Eden, and then embarked upon a 30+ date U.S. tour. When last we met up with Jesse and crew, it was earlier in [...]

Today is the first day of the famous Virgin Fest at Pimlico Race Track here in Baltimore. Nothing better than a hot August day in a venue with no shade to enjoy Lupe Fiasco, Wilco, Cat Power, Citizen Cope, Duffy, KT Tunstall, Foo Fighters, The Offspring, Jack Johnson, The Swell Season, Gogol Bordello, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Chuck Berry and the Silver Beats. If you want to enjoy yourself in a less sweaty, more cozy atmosphere, then perhaps the Metro Gallery will do the trick with Panda Riot, Arms and Sleepers, and Avocado Happy Hour. [...]
