If your looking to support a local DC band and/or wanna plan some live music into your weekend, you might wanna look into Bellman Barker , who will be playing The Black Cat this Saturday (January 26th). Listening to their music reminds me a lot of belle & sebastian in their earlier years. Definitely a band I will be keeping my eyes on. Bellman Barker - Molly Maroon (MP3)
Heads up on a wonder twin weekend show that promises to scramble wigs indiscriminately - Jukebox the Ghost and Bellman Barker (above) play the chocolate meow this Saturday. Lesser blogs might call this show a collection of DC's indie darlings, but we would never say something like that. What if Ghostface is reading? So, I had every intention of reviving the 12 Bands feature for this past holiday season. Due to my schedule, it never did happen. However, I did line up the bands and over time, the features will see the light of day. Up first is DC's Bellman Barker . They recorded a brand new demo exclusively for IA. Before we debut it, I sat down with the boys and had a little chat. After you read it, check out the song. Since it is such a departure for them, please comment with your feedback. They are interested to hear [...]

Alright, so I am last like always. However, I do promise that this is it. Finally, the end of our 2007 retrospectives. After this one, we move forward and start talking about some music from 2008. Anyway, here is my Best of 2007 post. For my list, I decided to stick to the Baltimore/Washington region. Enjoy... 3 Best Regional EPs credit 3. Bellman Barker - Anise & Anisette Last [...]

Aaron from Bellman Barker Thomas from Bellman Barker There's something telling about hearing stripped down acoustic/Wurlitzer versions of well written pop songs. You get to hear the soul of the song. That's what I heard last night at the Ottobar 's weekly Happy Party. Aaron and Thomas of Bellman Barker commanded the floor(no stage) with their set. The tension was high, but they blazed through two mini sets of songs that impressed me mightily. The thought occured to me while [...]

It's a pretty fantastic Friday for shows in the area. If you're up for some mellow music, Arthur & Yu hit up Sonar in Baltimore along with Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene. For all you're creative pop urges, be sure to check out Aqueduct at the Black Cat in DC who have Georgie James opening the stage for them. If you want to make a little trip, then trek on out to Haverford College in PA for Vampire Weekend. Believe me it will be worth it. Finally you'll [...]

It's nice when you discover a decent band right in your own neck of the woods. Well DC is close enough. Bellman Barker play honest indie pop. It gets your toe a tappin and your hands a clappin. In May they released Anise & Anisette, and are starting to make a name for themselves. While they're not blazing any trails with this album, they are burning up my li'l pod. Be sure to check them out tonight at the Velvet Lounge in DC. If you can't make it, they're also playing [...]

Let's keep this simple. To me, this site has always been about supporting the local music scene. So I decided, that there is no better way to celebrate our first anniversary, than to make a mix of local music from the past year. I had so much fun, that I ended up making two discs. Some of these bands have come a long way in the last 12 months, some didn't even exist when we started and others are no more. That said, every song is from a band that claims (or claimed) the Baltimore/Washington metro area as [...]

Believe it or not, 2007 is half over. That makes it the perfect time to mention my favorite Baltimore/DC Region CDs from the first part of this year. Keep in mind, that there are some local CDs that I have yet to attain, so I can't pass judgement on them at this time. Between those and several big ones that are slated for release over the last 6 months of the year, it will be interesting to see how this list changes. Regardless, these are the discs that have made the greatest dents on my iPod and CD player [...]
