Wicked deeeeeep house edit from Jay Shepheard of the classic compilation fodder... The Beloved - Sun Rising. He put it up for free download earlier today and it was so popular that all the D/Ls had gone straight away... Buuuut there's a few left below DOWNLOAD: The Beloved - "Sun Rising" (Jay Shepheard Edit)

Stripped Goa vibes, was really surprised when I couldn't find any full length's of this on the internet. Heavy house beats and killer guitar shred. The Beloved ran into a bit of trouble over the vocal sample on this track (the one that appears just after the title in the chorus). It actually came from " A Feather On The Breath Of God " , an album of 12th-century plainsong released by the tiny independent label Hyperion, who not unnaturally were rather miffed that they hadn't been asked! In the end they settled out of [...]

Another Beloved repost request. Includes a mix of one of their big hits, The Sun Rising by Mark Pritchard. Originally a quartet whose sound drew inspiration from psychedelia, the Beloved found its greatest success as a rave-influenced dance-pop duo. In 1987, at much the same time as losing two members, Jon Marsh and Steve Waddington were falling under the sway of London's burgeoning rave community. After first re-emerging with the ambient-styled single "The Sun Rising" the Beloved then scored an international hit with "Hello" a bubbling techno exercise [...]
[pretend there's a picture here. wordpress is having a bad day] Following last week's Beloved post, there was a request for some more, so here's a repost from 3 years ago containing a relatively rare remix by US agit-prop industrialists Consolidated. More Beloved to follow later this week: Some early rave psychedelia from another group that had its head turned by the dance explosion in the late 1980s. Originally a quartet whose sound drew inspiration from psychedelia, the Beloved found its greatest success as a rave-influenced [...]

From 1990 comes this rare Beloved remix. The Beloved (previously here ) were much loved by early ravers, not least for their classics Sun Rising , Your Love Takes Me Higher and Sweet Harmony . To be honest, I never much liked Jon Marsh's voice, which was too breathy and weak to carry a tune. The only time it works is on the song of lists, Hello . But enough grumping from me. Here's a 1990 mix by Adam & Eve of Your Love Takes Me Higher. The Beloved [...]

From an occasional commenter, though as yet anonymous: When you first asked for contributions on the theme of happiness and/or sadness, my thoughts turned to The Beloved. After all, the big album that rocketed them to the attention of the club charts was 1989's album Happiness, with the big cheery dance hall hits such as The Sun Rising , Hello , and Your Love Takes Me Higher . Some may debate the lasting merits of such electronic ephemera, but to me, the voice of singer Jon Marsh was [...]

Bought this on account of there being remixes by The Beloved (previously here ). They're pretty housey housey. Knew nothing about Joe Roberts but Wiki says: Joe Roberts is a Manchester based English musician, and one of the artists in soul/dance group Bodhi, formerly known as Dark Flower. Roberts recorded for London Records for several years, but his interest in clubland led him to Grass Green Records, which released his "Sweet Mercy" single in 1995. The track did well in the dance charts, leading him to record an album in that vein. [...]

This is an old rip from Ric, the other (very occasional) contributor to Armchair Spasm. I stumbled over it whilst wirelessly controlling my laptop with my G1 Android phone. How geeky... The Beloved + Nathan Fake - Sweet Harmony (Kosmas Epsilon + Zorz Northern People Bootleg Mix [RIP] Tagged: 2004, can anyone give me the full length track?, kosmas epsilon, nathan fake, sweet harmony, the beloved, zorz

What a year this was, right? Oil goes way up then goes way down, America elects a half-white guy for the presidency, and OJ is finally receives a prison sentence. This was a good year for me in terms of the harder offerings. In 2007 I kinda had to do the ice-cream-genre-barrel-scrape- around because a lot of metallish releases didn't hit the sweet spot. While that sounds like a personal problem, keep in mind that this is music we're talking about; it can't be anything but personal. I used to make fun of my middle-school friend's little [...]
Jules Shear - All Through The Night (from Watch Dog , 1983) Bill Pritchard - Tommy And Co (from Three Months, Three Weeks And Two Days , 1988) The Big Dish - Prospect Street (from Swimmer , 1986) Jimmy The Hoover - Bandana Street (Use It) (7" Single, 1985) The Beloved - A Hundred Words (from Where It Is , 1988) With many thanks to I Am Not The Beatles for allowing the shameless theft of the Jimmy The [...]

it's getting towards the end of the decade again...yikes. i can remember this feeling ten years ago. that 'shit, was that the 90s?' feeling. even though i started the 90s as a child, it seemed like it went too fast. i'm not looking forward to all those shows and compilations to start appearing, showcasing the 00s. anyway, to combat this feeling that time is running away with us, rewind to the early 90s. pretend it was all a dream, like bobby in dallas. and if you're old enough to know what the hell [...]

Some more quirky downtempo from Bent. Bent are Simon Mills and Nail Tolliday. Setting up their own label, Sport Recordings, the duo released three EPs (one as Johnny Flash And The Flames) before a highly-praised debut, "Programmed To Love". They formed Bent in Nottingham in 1997 after becoming disillusioned with the state of dance music at the time. Tolliday had previously been part of a famous Midlands-based sound system, DIY. I remember having heard about Bent in 1999 but being unable to [...]
