Video: Band of Horses on Conan - "Infinite Arms" After what should've been a triumphant moment for Band of Horses over the summer — opening up for Kings of Leon at huge venues across the country — fell through , Ben Bridwell and friends have pushed forward in support of their most recent album, Infinite Arms , booking gigs clear through the fall and performing a tour-tested live rendition of the title track on Conan last night. You can watch the take [...]
J Mascis - "Is It Done" (Official Video) While Chad VanGaalen's abstract animation for J Mascis' "Not Enough" video was a fine representation of the Dinosaur Jr. frontman's colorful imagination, Clambake Animation's new official clip for the Ben Bridwell-featuring Several Shades of Why single "Is It Done" beautifully bridges the gap between Mascis' enigmatic off-stage persona with his lyrically direct, heartfelt, near-twee tunes. Check out the excellent new video above. Previously: Watch Mascis Cover Edie Brickell

J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr has released his first solo studio record. The record is almost entirely acoustic and is beautifully designed. To me, it's the album that had been kept inside since 1994's "Feel the Pain." It's more raw sharing, but this time, in a bit of peace and quiet. Or if you never realized how much pain and heartache was in all those Dino albums, this one can retrospectively shine a light for you. Several Shades of Why is a collection of ten fragile, contemplative tracks that serve as [...]
Acoustic singer/songwriters are a dime a dozen these days. But how many can also claim to have headed one of the foremost bands of the American grunge movement? The king of guitar noise, J Mascis, has traded in his fuzz pedal for finger picking on a new solo album, "Several Shades of Why," released in [...]

J Mascis' "Not Enough" Video (Directed by Chad VanGaalen) Fellow Sub Pop roster member Chad VanGaalen sends an animated J Mascis on a number of colorful, abstract adventures in the new official video for Several Shades of Why single "Not Enough," which co-stars Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell on backing vocals. Mascis can do no wrong to me lately, be it the above song/video, the full LP streaming here , or this Edie Brickell cover he's been playing live.

If you've witnessed recent press shots of Dinosaur Jr. man J. Mascis , his argent locks breezing about a look of sheer content, his first solo stab on Sub Pop isn't the altogether buoyant affair perhaps forecast, as preconceived distortion is hacked back to reveal a delicate voice that cracks and crumbles on the LP's eponymous track. While Mascis may temporarily go it alone, he's far from lonesome as a slew of indie architects feature, from Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell to Matador pioneer Kurt Vile and baroque-popstrels Broken Social Scene's head honcho Kevin Drew, all of whom come [...]

It's that special time in life where lots of friends are getting married. We could be jaded about that, or we could be happy for these folks - and for the purpose of this week's mix, we'll be effing PUMPED. Katie went to undergrad with Dani and Josh (and roomed with Dani their first year) - now the couple is engaged and planning a sweet wedding (Dani's got an equally sweet blog with Minneapolis/St. Paul Mag where you can read all about it). Here's a mix to help them through the nuts and bolts of making things awesome [...]

Filed under: News , New Releases Whether it was an eye-for-an-eye mentality or if it was more along the lines of quid pro quo, Band of Horses have released their cover of Cee-Lo 's 'Georgia' in response to his cover of their hit, 'No One's Gonna Love You.' The Band of Horses version of 'Georgia' features the University of Georgia's Redcoat Marching Band. Both covers are cleverly bundled together as a double A-side 7" and will be offered in various [...]
Watch: Band of Horses Perform at Wedding - "Marry Song" Per a description below this video ( via So Much Silence ), Njal and Elin, a couple from Norway who got engaged at a Band of Horses concert in Oslo earlier this year, sent their story along to Ben Bridwell and Co. ahead of their wedding date, which happened to coincide with the band's slot at Dognvillfestivalen in Tromsø, Norway. With all the coincidences surrounding the wedding, the band said, "What the hell" and decided to surprise [...]
Band of Horses Play Black Cab Session - Ode to LRC It isn't often that you get a chance to hear Ben Bridwell's voice devoid of reverb, but the Band of Horses frontman and co. broke out their cigar box guitar for this unplugged take on Cease to Begin's "Ode to LRC" in the back of an echo-less London cab last week. The description says the pair are "very hungover," but if anything, that adds a bit of welcome color to the intimate, morning-after vibe. Watch it above.

Filed under: Potent Quotables "I wish we had a more interesting story, but I really think it's that we stole their sound guy." -- Ben Bridwell In a recent interview with Spin, the scruffy Band of Horses frontman offered his theory behind being asked to tour with larger-than-life Pearl Jam . this would have been so freakin awesome to witness i must admit. this was, and still is, one of my absolute favorite songs. think i just may have to break out the temple of the dog record, which if you have never heard, i cannot recommend it enough. Every time I go to listen to listen to Band of Horses' third and latest long-player in iTunes, I type 'B-A-N' (and possibly a 'D' if I'm feeling adventurous) and am always instantly rewarded not with Infinite Arms, but Music from Big Pink. "Isn't that apt?", I think. "The daddies of country rock and and their young heirs, side by side. Two generations of rootsy Americana, neatly rubbing shoulders in the sterile confines of the 'Column Browser.'" And each time I smile a knowing little smile to myself.

Where the voice of Ben Bridwell goeth, I shall follow. And the boy has brains, apparently, because hubba bubba pow wow (sorry - that's my reaction to the pic above). Ben ( Band of Horse s frontman) shows up on singer/songwriter Courtney Jaye 's brand new record, The Exotic Sounds of Courtney Jaye (out Jan 12). From the samples in iTunes, Courtney's record sounds really promising - melodic, sunny, rootsy. And this duet with Ben leads the charge... Courtney Jaye (w/ Ben Bridwell) - Sometimes Always (mp3) [...]

Band of Horses performed to a near sold-out crowd last Saturday, August 29, at the beautiful Fox Theater in Pomona (photos at bottom). Ben Bridwell (above), with his customary beard short and neat-trimmed, led the group in a satisfying set made up mostly of favorites from their two full-length albums Everything All the Time (2006) and Cease To Begin (2007). The rest of the band included Tyler Ramsey (lead), Bill Reynolds (bass), Ryan Monroe (keys), and Creighton Barrett (drums). Although I had had these tickets for months, I almost decided not to [...]
