Thursday I poste d my favorite show of 2006 . Over the next few days I am gonna try to post a few of my favorite shows period, as a christmas present to all of you. In January of 2001 Ben Gibbard played his first public solo show since the formation of Death Cab for Cutie, four years prior. The show was at the 5th Floor Coffeehouse in Bellingham, WA. Ben talks alot about how nervous he is and even has Nick (Death Cab's bassist) sit on the stage with him for a few [...]

Forgive me for being ridiculously lubed to see Deathcab for Cutie tonight. I've got a hot date and I'm listening to Ben Gibbard acoustic gems to get in the mood. There's nothing new I could tell you about DCFC, so I won't attempt. Suffice it to say that unless you're seeing this tour, you should be very very jealous. Listen: Title Track (live acoustic on KEXP) A Lack of Color (live acoustic at the Bowery Ballroom 1.10.06)

Last year at this time, I saw Death Cab for Cutie in concert at the Wiltern, all by myself. I'd never attended a show alone before, and I'm not sure it will be something that I'll do again. alt-gramma used to attend shows by herself all the time when I was in high school, and she wasn't going to see any classical or jazz fests either. She went to see punk hardcore bands and early alternative rock bands. She was/is awesome. I first heard "405" off [...]

Okay, so every blog's doing it and I'm a bit behind due to hosting issues, so I have to reupload the files again for you guys...Anyway, this is a mixed treat bag, with a collection of songs ranged from electropop to indie, and their titles are all connected to the Halloween theme. Have fun listening to them, and I hope you enjoy dressing up in costumes and getting all sorts of sweets from the neighborhood, or enjoy giving candies to tooth-decay the kids, or getting wild at some extravagant adult Halloween party... [...]
Dane101 is a little busy today putting the finishing touches on our party (see flyer to the right). In the meantime, we have set up a list of Halloween-y type songs for you to listen to as you wait for us to put up new content. Enjoy and see you at the show (this post will only be available until October 31). <!-- -->
Here are some frightening tunes for the Hallowe'en festivities. The first track is one by Wolf Eyes, which makes heavy metal look like twee. If you haven't heard of Wolf Eyes, then let me explain. It's not supposed to be music, it's supposed to be noise; it's part of a genre known as noisecore. This song will make you feel like you're being stabbed in the face. The next is the Hallowe'en prevention satire song that came out last year which is an indie lovers dream collaboration (and the proceeds went to UNICEF). Included was Arcade Fire's Win [...]
UPDATE: So NBC removed the video below. Listen fuckers, Leno sucks balls so take free publicity when you can. I don't get it, of all the networks you actually use Youtube ! Ben Gibbard - "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" Tonight Show with Jay Leno This song was featured on the first Merry Swankster post after relaunching the site almost a year ago. [...]
Ben Gibbard - "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" Tonight Show with Jay Leno This song was featured on the first Merry Swankster post after relaunching the site almost a year ago. What did we have to say back then? Death Cab for Cutie â€" I Will Follow You into the Dark The nice guys from Portland spin a lovely tale of eternal love in an existential afterlife. Suspending [...]

It's about that time of the year and why not accompany it with some music that provides the soundtrack for the season? But enough with the small talk, all you really want are the songs. Here you go: The Long Winters - It'll Be a Breeze Nico - Fairest of the Seasons Sufjan Stevens - Wolverine Polaris - Waiting for October [...]
The remaining cuts I have from the live show I posted on August 11th of Ben "Death Cab For Cutie" Gibbard. A Lack of Color-Ben Gibbard . Farmer Chords-Ben Gibbard . I Was A Kaleidoscope-Ben Gibbard . They Don't Know About Us (Tracy Ullman cover)-Ben Gibbard .

I’ve been having some host issues lately, so to atone I’m posting a really great show I’ve been sitting on for quite some time. Ben Gibbard, solo, live, acoustic, from June 6, 2003. The sound quality doesn’t get any better than this. I hope you like it. This is the Dream of Evan and Chan-Ben Gibbard . Photobooth/Title and Registration-Ben Gibbard . Such Great Heights-Ben Gibbard . [...]
Cover versions are fun little things, because they allow songs to be reinterpretted in different ways and allow the listener to get into the music more. Sometimes they can be bad, particularly when it's one of your favourite songs that has been murdered by a pop princess wanting to reach out to a larger audience who don't want to listen, but occasionally you can find some real gems. Here are a couple that I've found over the past few days, for your enjoyment: Sonata Arctica - The Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler) Four [...]
A while back, the sometimes wonderful What Would Jesus Blog? posted a pretty-great mix called Am I Black Or White? Jesus Christ’s Mix Tape of Songs By Black People Sang By White People . Well, here are ten songs that fit with that theme. Think of it as Parking Lot Cities's Bonus EP. Download audio file (xx-fastcar.mp3) Xiu Xiu - Fast Car (Tracy Chapman) Download audio file (beck-hottinhere.mp3) Beck - Hott [...]

One of my personal favorite music series comes out of Austin's Post-Parlo Records .
