Monday night saw the phenomenon in full swing once again as Vine Street was closed down and Beatles fans jammed in front of the label home to see Ringo Starr receive the 2,401 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The 45-minute ceremony featured Starr's friends Joe Walsh , Don Was and Ben Harper sharing their [...]

For most of the 1980s and '90s, it wasn't officially summer until the Grateful Dead came through town. The same can be said for a new generation of music fans about the Dave Matthews Band . The perennial road warriors will hit the road once again for another mammoth summer run. The 49-date trek kicks off with a two-night stand at the Comcast Theater in Hartford, CT on May 28, while they will become the second ever music act to play Citi Field on July 16 and 17 when they take over the home of the New [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Elvis Costello was one of many artists who paid tribute to Neil Young last Friday night, Jan. 29, at the 20th anniversary MusiCares dinner. Costello was very impressed with the night's music, singling out a few performances that stood out to him. " Wilco were amazing. That was impressive that they put so much work in. I don't imagine Buffalo Springfield ever played that song cause it's kind of a collage," he told Spinner [...]

Many Chicago based artists were nominated for Grammys at the 52nd Annual Awards show held last night. But only two, hip-hop diva Kanye West and jazz singer Kurt Elling , managed to walk away winners. West won twice, both for his collaboration on the Jay-Z hit "Run This Town" also featuring Rihanna from The Blueprint III which West also produced. The song won in the Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration categories. Elling [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News In 20 previous editions, the pre- Grammy concert benefiting MusiCares has had some spectacular honorees and events, including Elton John , James Taylor , Sting , Bono and 2009 recipient Neil Diamond . But with all of those star-studded affairs it would be hard to find one that engendered more love and respect than Friday night's dinner honoring Neil Young . From the moment the night was announced it promised to be special. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Summertime means baseball games, backyard barbecues, dog days and, oh yeah -- Dave Matthews Band 's annual amphitheater outing. It's a bit of an American tradition, as is their rotating special guest opener slot which has highlighted a number of integrity acts and "IT" bands over the years. Looks like 2010 will stick with that exciting convention, as this year's support acts will include Raphael Saadiq , Brett Dennen , Gov't Mule , Ben Harper and the [...]
Just for the record, Conan will always be The Tonight Show host for me, in my heart. And Andy Richter will always be his sidekick. In my heart. And that version of "Freebird"? With Ben Harper, Beck, ZZ Top, Will Ferrell, The Tonight Show band, and oh yeah! Conan shredding it on guitar? Yeah that will also be in my heart. Forever. Watch Will Ferrell and Conan O'Brian (and Beck and Ben Harper and ZZ Top etc. etc.) play "Freebird" at Funny Or Die Watch Neil Young play "Long May You Run" [...]
This huge number with Will Ferrell, Beck , ZZ Top 's Billy Gibbons and Ben Harper (plus the heartfelt speech that directly preceded it) is a perfect example of why I love Conan O'Brien so much. I miss him already.
Last Friday was the end of the Conan/NBC saga and he went out with a bang, performing Skynyrd's classic "Free Bird" with Will Ferrell on vocals and a backing band of Ben Harper, Beck, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and Max Weinberg on drums. Classic stuff and CoCo will be missed, hopefully he will land somewhere else. As a bonus, I have included Jimmy Fallon's show opening tribute to CoCo, Boyz II Men style with The Roots below, enjoy. C onan's final show was one of his best. From the surprise guests(Steve Carell, Ben Harper, Beck), to the A list send off of Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell, and Neil Young. Conan ended with a positive inspiring hopeful message that I believe struck a chord. He said if you work hard at what you love, and are a good person that you will be blessed in this life. Good luck to whatever you do CoCo . We love you. The XX [...]
I wonder how long Conan will take off before he comes back to network television? It's a shame that things went down the way they did. That "no talent ass-clown" took his spot. Jay Leno is like the old guy that won't retire who spends all day sleeping and shows up for the paycheck (slowly jumps off of soap-box). Last Tonight Show with Conan - "Free Bird" Tweet This Post
Click here to view the embedded video. Will Farrell sends Conan off on a high note with a rousing cover of Lyndyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" - complete with more cowbell, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Beck and Ben Harper on pedal steel. And with that ladies and gentleman, " Late Night Debacle 2010 " has officially come to a close.
For his Tonight Show Finale, Conan O'Brien enlisted Will Ferrell, Ben Harper, Billy Gibbons, Beck and Max Weinberg to perform Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird. More cowbell anyone? The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien came to an end way too soon last night on NBC. After a heart-felt and inspiring speech about be thankful for what NBC has done for him over the past 20 years, O'Brien welcomed a supergroup made up of the Max Weinberg 7, Beck, Ben Harper and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and led by comedian Will Ferrell and his pregnant wife to perform Freebird. Conan showed off some skills on the guitar as well. Conan O'Brien and Friends - Freebird
I don't know what could have been so important on a Friday night that you weren't watching Conan last night, but the closing of his final show was a sight to behold. After appearances by Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Neil Young and a heartfelt speech in which Conan O'Brien thanked NBC for the last 20 years, he joined a star-studded cast of buddies on stage for a fitting goodbye song: the one and only "Free Bird". The cast? How about Will Ferrell and his pregnant wife Viveca Paulin, dressed as Lynyrd Skynyrd-era hillbillies, a suit-clad Billy [...]
Welp, if you've been following the whole Late Night drama, as I have, you know that tonight was the last episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien . It's unfortunate that it had to end like this, but I'm for team CoCo and will continue to support Conan 's future endeavors, as I'm sure he'll be back in no time. Anyway, if you missed out tonight, here's a final jam of "Free Bird , " featuring: Conan, Max Weinberg and the Tonight Show band, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Warning: If you go to Ringo Starr 's Los Angeles home for a cup of tea, prepare to end up on his album. As he began working on 'Y Not,' which came out Jan. 12, various guests were drafted into playing on the collection. "The great Joe Walsh was living in the guest house, so he came over to put guitars on it. Dave Stewart came over for a cup of tea and he's on it," said Starr, [...]
Filed under: The Hit List It was perhaps the greatest hit of the '60s -- not ' She Loves You ' or ' Blowin' in the Wind ' but the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1963 speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial: "I Have a Dream." In observation of the slain civil rights leader's national holiday, here's a suggested playlist fit for a King. Common feat. Will.i.am , ' A Dream ' (2006) [...]
