Joseph Arthur and Ben Kweller are both singer-songwriter type, folk-influenced artists that have had CD's come out in the last couple weeks. I've been enjoying both of their albums a lot and since time is limited I'm covering both of them in one fowl swoop. Out of the two, Joseph Arthur delivers a much darker and moody album. You'd expect that from an album called Nuclear Daydream, and Mr. Arthur does it well. The album is much more psychedelic based then I would have expected, but it really [...]

(***1/2 over 5) Elected by Rolling Stone as one of the best concerts of ACL 2006 despite the nosebleed , Ben Kweller brings a CD full lot of melodic lines, more pop than the other 2 previous albums. The backing vocals work sometimes can remember things done by Weezer. The guitars are a lot more subdued on this one while the piano takes a more forward approach (perhaps by influence of fellow Ben Ben Folds ?), with those standard Kweller builds (those moments when the drums kick in, the guitars stutter, and he begins [...]

Do you know of musicians that you THINK you like, just for the tiny detail that you actually never have heard any of their music? Well, that was how I felt about American singer-songwriter Ben Kweller . I have bumped into his name lots of times through the last couple of years but it was not until the other day that I finally could be arsed to listening to the guy. Last week he released his fourth album, simply called " Ben Kweller ". This was a suitable occation to give him a chance. And - [...]

1. John Mayer and I have been through some whirlwind romances and trial separations over the years. My dad (who is in radio) was like "hey, keep an eye out for this guy, he's got a lot of talent and something special." and I checked it out and I enjoyed it. I don't even think Room for Squares had even been released yet. Just his independent acoustic release and some live mp3s in random places. I always thought "3x5" should have been a single off Room. Then JM became the new DMB on [...]

First of all I've switched the format in which I construct my mixes. Before they were always 17 songs. A nice big prime number. And that number was chosen because, when burned to a cd, 17 songs usually maxes out the available space. I'm Dutch, hence I like to use everything you can. But, in today's modern age [where the single song download is rapidly watering down the effect of a solid album], everyone seems to have digital music players. Taking this all into consideration the mixes to follow [...]
Today I bring a few Ben Kweller songs that establish why I think he is awesome. Besides for being just generally a good song writer and musician, these songs really did it for me. The first is the song "I Don't Know Why." This isn't the version off the album, this is an older, more acoustic version that I enjoy better than his new one. I listened to it just as much as I listened to Sha Sha (my

we here at Noise For Toaster - the boston bloggers extraordinaire, the lovely loving losers of independent music and fish-keeping, the swashbuckling pirate and realultimatepowered ninja, the buthers and bakers and candle-stick makers - you know, us - we'd like to ask you a question. why can't we all just be happy? why the crying? why so pensive, so melancholy, so worrisome? why the hurrying? why
Raised not far from here in Greenville, TX, Ben Kweller began making a mark on the music community with his band Radish. After the end of Radish, Kweller continued with solo albums, tours, and projects with other similarly named guys. His latest effort is a self-titled released on which he plays every instrument that came out earlier this week. His performance was cut a little short at ACL due

Day two of the festival got off to a smoother start - no nerves, much more sleep (we decided to call it an early night on Friday instead of checking out the MSTRKRFT after party), and breakfast at Maria's Taco Xpress had us in great moods and ready to face a long, long day of music. We got to the park in time to check out Phoenix , one of my must-sees for this year's festival. I caught the band at Vanderbilt's Rites of Spring music festival last year and they definitely impressed - their live show kicks [...]

Ben Kweller third solo album Ben Kweller was released this week on ATO. At first listen I thought it was his weakest but still something pretty special. After some more listens I have grown quite fond of it. I'm kind of strapped for time so I will keep it short. Ben Kweller on making this album, "A bonus for me, and you, is I think I might have written my best song while I was in the studio. It's called Thirteen. It's very personal and almost hard for me to listen to." I like the song [...]

"a bunch of hyper Canadians that really love music and one day decided to make some of their own." - The Ghost Is Dancing Fantastic! I can't get enough of them. Their self titled EP was released on Sept. 19th and I admitted along time ago that I am a major sucker for indie rock embellished mini-symphonies and this 8 member band does a damn good job of delivering just what I like. I look forward to their Spring full length release. :) The Ghost Is Dancing , [...]

I like Ben Kweller. He's like the little brother you ignore, until the day you discover he's raided your record collection and is now writing pretty fucking amazing pop songs. Bastard. On his new self titled release, Kweller once again puts together a nifty package of quirky love songs and contemplative ballads. Opting to play all the instruments himself, BK successfully pulls off a solo album
Ben Kweller is all grown up, and with this new album of his (self-titled, ATO Records, just came out Tuesday) he is poised to be spending a lot more time spinning in my CD player. His new album is an engaging and well-crafted pop gem that sounds best played loud in the open air. There's a lyric that goes, "He is in the yard just washing his car, thinking 'bout his pretty wife, making lemonade with

Ben Kweller When I recieved the Ben Kweller 's new self-titled album the other day, I had a good feeling that it would eventually end up in the bottom of stack. I'm not even sure why I assumed I would ignore it, I've got nothing against Ben Kweller, infact I like his music quite a lot, but I was sure it wouldn't be listened to. So sure of this I was, I immediately asked my friend if he wanted it. He glady accepted, but ended up leaving [...]
