Ooooooh...Friday the 13th. <insert superstition here>. But seriously, we've already had our bad luck here back in January with all sorts of bandwidth issues and what not. But our bad luck seems to be over now (ironically), and we're back bringing you the best of new and old music :) BTW, for those of our followers on hype machine, be sure to click that little heart next to the songs you love. I've been using them as a guide for what kind of stuff to post in my Friday Fixes, so please help us bring you guys music [...]

If there's one album to recommend out of this week's bunch, it would certainly be Aboa Sleeping from the Finnish duo Burning Hearts . It's one of the better pop albums i've heard this year from beginning to end, which is a shame since the album isn't getting nearly the amount of coverage that it deserves. You can read the preview post from a couple of weeks ago right here . Other notable albums out this week include It's Not Me, It's You from Lily Allen , Dan [...]

Little Boots - Time To Pretend (MGMT Cover) Last year, Little Boots posted this cutesy video on YouTube and did one feel-good, bubbly, and light cover of MGMT's prolific "Time To Pretend." And it wasn't until recently that the .mp3 of her cover started floating around the internets. Little Boots is very simple and very effective on "Time To Pretend" - and that's the way I like them! I'm developing quite the aural crush on Little Boots! Listen to the cover down there: Little Boots [...]

In high school, Ben Lee's debut got me laughed at, albeit rightfully, by a girl. The apparent trauma has lead to me checking out each of his subsequent releases, each with diminishing returns. With this newest release, I think it's time I move on. Admittedly, that debut was overly-emotional and immature, but so was I. In fact I may still be today, but I can see through this. Backed by generic and inconsequential music, he's working in ham-fisted political and cultural statements, bizarre gender themes, overused and ineffective group vocals, and plain schmaltz, occasionally hidden under a decent melody. [...]
Pretty solid release lineup this week. Let me be your friendly guide about what's good and what to skip. Good: Ben Folds , Dan Auerbach (from The Black Keys), Lily Allen , Madlib , Malajube , Napalm Death Skip: Um... yeah, I got nothing. Like I said, solid week. There are a lot on here I know nothing about and a lot that I haven't heard, so I can't speak about. :: An Horse , Rearrange Beds (Mom & [...]

Kiss Kiss, The Faraway Places and Ben Lee highlight this week's releases, unless the pop buzz behind Lily Allen or the folk/country swagger of Miranda Lee Richards get you first. Maybe even the comedy from Andy Sandberg's Lonely Island steers your attention from a long list of solo artists deserving more of the credit than we gave them. For us, Kiss Kiss ' album The Meek Shall Inherit What's Left off of Eyeball Records heads a quality list of albums releasing. Their [...]

Dan Auerbach Dan Auerbach has put out one of the best albums of 2009. I was worried that "Keep It Hid" would sound like his work with the Black Keys. I love the Keys, but I was ready for something different from Dan. "This record is a mixture of things I like to listen to, psychedelia, soul music, country harmonies," says Auerbach. Dan is playing at the El Rey Theatre on March 14th (Buy Tix). New Releases - February 10th [...]

ANOTHER SHOW BITES THE SNOW AFTER THIS CRAZY STORM. NO WORD YET IF IT WILL BE RESCHEDULED. FROM WHAT I HEAR, MOST PEOPLE WON'T EVEN SEE THIS POST SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WITHOUT POWER. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE GETTING THROUGH THIS. The folks over at Bellarmine University have a special performance lined up for January 30th with the internationally acclaimed musician Ben Lee ! Master of the catchy chorus Ben Lee has his new album, Rebirth Of Venus, coming out on Feb. 10th (read my review here). Recently I had the opportunity to do a Q&A with Lee about the new album and music in general. I'd like to give a shout out to my brother, Bean Counter (a massive Ben Lee fan), for helping to come up with the questions for Ben. T.O. Snob: First off thanks for taking the time to

The folks over at Bellarmine University have a special performance lined up for January 30th with the internationally acclaimed musician Ben Lee ! Ben is a brilliant songrwriter from Australia who has spent some time collaborating with Ben Folds and Ben Kweller in The Bens, acting in indie movies (The Rage in Placid Lake), fronting the great indie-punk band Noise Addict (Ecstatic Peace/Grand Royal Records), and putting out his own records since he was 16. It is rare to find Lee playing solo shows in the states and this tour to tout his new album The Rebirth [...]
I was just turned on to www.BellarmineRadio.com and thought I would share this resource with you. They webcast 24 hours a day have a lot of specialty shows at night where they go for "an eclectic mix that rejects both the least-common-denominator approach of commercial radio and the insular elitism of some college radio." Here are a few of their projects: - Concerts at Bellarmine. -Segments we call "Louisville Sounds." -On Feb. 14, they will auction off several hours of programming for people to dedicate to someone they love.
