Rythmant chaque année la fin du mois d'avril, les Artefacts s’apparentent à un pèlerinage musical annuel obligatoire pour nombre de Strasbourgeois et d'Alsaciens. Prenant position dans les places fortes de la culture musicale locale -La Laiterie, La Salle des Fêtes de Schiltigheim et le Zénith- le festival propose chaque année un programme hétéroclite qui convient autant aux amateurs de variété française, qu'aux amateurs de pop/rock ou aux DJs en herbe. I had one of those magical radio moments listening to KCRW this weekend when Chris Douridas played a French artist named Benjamin Biolay . He whisper/sang lyrics in French over a country-fied refrain of "Little darlin I love you" with dashes of twangy guitar. Benjamin Biolay 's new album Vengeance is out today, featuring duets with Vanessa Paradis, Julia Stone, Carl Barat and rappers Oxmo Puccino and OrelSan. It's the follow up to the, err, superbe La Superbe, the ambitious, versatile and amazing double album from 2010. This time, it sounds like Benjamin got stuck in writer's block. The Best of Benjamin Biolay is out now, featuring one inédit. Solid tracklist , though I'm not a fan of that electronically enhanced version of Los Angeles, and I would've include Little Darlin' (from Négatif) and the Lendemains-duet with Françoise Hardy. Still, this Best Of is an impressive body of work, it confirms his status as one of France's greatest songwriters. He should be one of Europe's best loved artists, in my opinion. Les Grands Espaces, Isa Boulay's new album , is produced by Benjamin Biolay. He plays various instruments, most notably organ and trumpet on the Lee Hazlewood/Nancy Sinatra-cover Summer Wine.
