Unexpected. Benji B does his usual thing, and has the one and only Syd the Kid in-studio for a chat and a mix! She drops a lot of dope shit, from Outkast to Frank Ocean to Katy B to Toro y Moi .
DEVIATION STRING QUARTET: BURIAL - SHELL OF LIGHT from Deviation on Vimeo . This is taking Burial to new heights. Chills throughout my body. Wow.

Admittedly, the world doesn't need any more Dilla hagiography, but credit owed to Benji B and the BBC for doing due diligence in wrangling interviews with Dilla's family, Slum V, Mos, Busta, Common, Badu and basically everyone who has ever appeared on Okayplayer. It runs an hour and anyone with a passing or cultish interest in the late Jay Dee will probably want to listen. Stories include Plug 2 breaking down his first meeting with Dilla. Dilla ditching school. Dilla stopping time and swatting King Kong from the Empire State Building. He discovered Kong's presence through telepathy. True story. [...]
It has been several years now since the passing of J Dilla, yet his legacy remains stronger than ever. As part of BBC Radio 1Xtra's Stories, a series of tributes to artists that have passed, Benji B sheds light on the late hip-hop innovator, J Dilla. To conclude the series, the station brought together tidbits from some of the great members of Dilla's close-knit community. I am talking artists like Common, Mos Def, and Dilla's mother, Ma Dukes. Mixing in his many musical contributions, we get a great insight into the life of James Yancey. Head over to [...]
What would happen if you put Benji B and the Deviation String Quartet in a pod, on top of the biggest Ferris wheel in Europe, then gave them an open bar and told them to party? Picture that, then repeat the process thirty times with everyone from Digital Sound Boy and Skream and Benga to Rodigan and the 2 Bears. I once spent a week watching water drip off leaves, counting the number of branches in a tree thinking "what would happen if..." Well, now we know. You can stream all the sets from [...]

So the big news of the past week or so, at least in my world, is something to do with a dictator falling of a chair or something, he hurt his ankle or something…..Only joking the real news came from last Thursday night when Rbma took over the entire London Eye. Dubbed as 30 gigs in one night, we saw a different system, group, or artist take the reins in each pod and basically have a massive party in the sky. Myself? I could not make it sadly. Oh the woe. However [...]

The end of summer is fast approaching, which means an end to the mud, cider and frolics of the festival season, the icing on the cake being Rob Da Bank's Bestival. But with the autumnal times there comes change, that change being me! As the new addition at HMCMB, I'll be joining the team to help keep you all on the 'cultural' ball. So...Hi..I'm Ruby, and armed with an Oxfam Steward pass and as much camping equipment as humanly possible to carry, I was ready for what the Isle of Wight had to throw at me. The first [...]

After releasing the wildly successful single "Far Nearer" and his Gil Scott Heron remix project I'm New Here earlier this year, it's already been a pretty great year for Jamie XX's solo career, which sees him stepping away from his main outfit The XX to pursue garage and dubstep-inspired electronic music. He's already recorded two excellent DJ mixes for the BBC this year as well (for Benji B and Radio 6), but this weekend the spotlight is on his 2 hour long Essential Mix, a series which has played host to a number of highly influential producers over [...]
