Gawky synthpop scamps quivering in corners Bergen's Casiokids may once have been although in the wake of their third and debatably most muscular full-length, Aabenbaringen Over Aaskammen, they return to the tenebrous caverns of London's underground to sell out Rivington Street's swankiest subterraneous railway tunnel, Cargo. It's our inaugural Eat Your Own Ears show of 2012, and it left us stupefied; asinine beam indelibly etched from ear to ear; genuinely thankful an irrepressible festive greed never resulted in the gnawing of aural receptors... Up first however are FAMY [...]
Bergen is already home to The Whitest Boy Alive, Röyksopp, Ungdomskulen and Datarock. Casiokids continue in the fine tradition of great acts to come out of the Norwegian city. Having fallen in love with the band's single from a few years ago 'Fot I Hose' I was really eager to hear some more and 'Det Haster!' [...]

Enjoy. ♩ Kings Of Convenience - Me in You

Your Girl is zo'n nummer. Lekker uptempo, drie en een [...]

Tweet Quick question: Remember an electronic pop band that came straight outta Bergen, Norway around 2005 called Lorraine? They were up and comers who didn't quite make it all the way into the public consciousness though they were certainly on their way. They were the darlings of blogs such as the esteemed PopJustice who were early champions of the band. I'm guessing for the most part that you haven't. That's okay because they are back with a different name, a different sound and this time, a hope for a different [...]
We've written before about Blackroom - formerly Lorraine, one of the best bands you've probably never heard of - but we recently got sent this new track so we're going to go right ahead and write about them again. Blackroom are a 3-piece (we think) hailing from Bergen, Norway (and we've been known to like things from Norway before). Lorraine were a straight up synthpop act (well ahead of their time as it turned out) but Blackroom seemed to be going down a more Depeche Mode route with their previous tracks, and going a little too rocky and heavy [...]

Whilst Scandinavian records of late have often proved synonymous with twee time, What Was Ours Can't Be Yours is as irrevocably engaging as an afternoon spent perspiring profusely in a self-help clinic, thirsting on coarse paranoia just as its title suggests. The Norwegian quartet unite undulating Moog bass with ghostly vox last employed by mid-90s McLachlan (never more empoweringly than on the ultimately ephemeral The Visitor) to conjure a sophomore LP that's gloriously expansive, utterly cinematic. Yet whilst Erlend Ringseth's ebbing swathes of synth virtuosity enliven an already dynamic effort, it's Anne Lise Frøkedal's ethereal aggregating of prog-pop open string [...]

Still floundering with about as much of a grasp on the dictionary definition of chillwave as Gruff Rhys has on reality beyond hallucinogenics and Patagonian heritage, regardless of Panda Bear blueprint and Neon Indian interpretation Norwegian bunch Lanzarote create spine-tingling synth tropicalia that's more frigid than a February dawn in Lancashire, let alone the Canary Islands. Following the EC2-engulfing success of the first in a series of warehouse-slanted nights under the nominal jurisdiction of the very same island , it's only a matter of time before two further definitions ought to be required when punching Lanzarote into [...]

Tweet Do you remember the little monkey that always followed Pippi Longstocking where ever she went? His name was Herr Nilsson , - mr. Nilsson, and that's also the name of the band I'm going to present for you today. They're from Bergen, Norway , and have been around for several years. Their music can probably be described as indiepop with jangly guitars, trumpets (you know I love them), violins, banjos and lots of fun. The banjo/violin elements give their music a tiny touch [...]

Tweet The Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Silje Nes ' second album "Opticks" is released today on Fat Cat Records . It's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have heard so far this year. "Opticks" sounds both more focussed and more confident than her debut, "Ames room", which I have to say also was an excellent record. This time, her songs are more accessible and "pop" than on earlier releases, and it suits her. The melodies are more in front this [...]

mp3: The New Wine - Delete, Rewind Norwegian synthpoppers The New Wine (I previously covered them here and here ) finally came out with new material in Norway yesterday, the single-track digital release 'Delete, Rewind'. The band will be touring Norway in October and Europe in November. It is unfortunately still unknown when they will start releasing material outside Norway, and also when their fabled debut album - which they reported recording in studio back in May - will finally be out. Good to hear something new from [...]
