We’re sorry. There is a lot happening. And we tend to miss things. That is the only reason I can find for writing so late about our sweetheart Berry. We only mentioned her here . Nothing more. And of course Berry deserves more (and not only because she is the French singer I saw perform more than once here in the Netherlands). But what to think about the new album "Les Passagers" that we have to wait about for more than two years? It is a lovely album. If you like Berry that is. Don't we all? That [...]
The new Berry album 'Les Passagers' will be released on 23 april. Above a video of one of her new tracks: 'Si C'est La Vie'.
I'm a virile, spry 20 year old dj living on my own in the BX. Fordham & Grand. My then 19 year old live- in girlfriend who followed me out there from Boston hits me on the hip on some 911 shit. My Motorola is blowin up which can only mean one thing. She knows about me and Josette. Two weeks previously, I met Josette at a house party I attended with my man 6 Killa. He was an mc who could kill you with 6 Styles..it was '96 for God sake. Josette rocked me from jump. Bad [...]

Germany’s adult pop fashion of the hour is the coffee table recycling of songs from the 20s to 40s – think Tukur , think Alsmann , and German actress Jasmin Tabatabai makes no exception. On her recent album Eine Frau, released last September, she covers songs by Hollaender, Tucholsky and others, all cushily bossa- or jazzified – by and large what Diana Krall or Norah Jones do, with less production value. Probably for reasons de chic, her lieder album also contains a French composition, La chanson d’Hélène, originally written by Philippe Sarde and Jean-Loup Dabadie for [...]

A little more fire, please The Berrys play music that might best be described as pleasant. Sometimes, of course, pleasant is just what the doctor ordered, and this Brooklyn four-piece delivers, courtesy of Briana Berry's country-esque vocals. They're coupled with clean, unobtrusive accompaniment from dad Jefferson Berry on guitar, Billy Hyatt on bass and Bud Burroughs on a range of instruments including mandolin and keyboards. The muscular arrangements and overall verve of openers "Cry Baby Aida" and "Nyame" promise something...

The crazy surprise ending of "Why The Juniper Has Berries" from The Book of Nature Myths for Children by Florence Holbrook is after the jump. And for those of you wondering why the cranberry that hides in the juniper is green, well, juniper berries are green when young, and after about 18 months, they mature to the purple/blue color we're familiar with. And there you have it...

O'Death's recent album, Outside, was the bands third full-length record (review here ) and was a mighty fine return indeed. A dark, moody and far more restrained album than the bands previous two records, the songs on Outside were full of characters of the night, images of rain-swept vistas and plenty of tales of life and death. It was also the sound of a band suddenly taking everything a lot more seriously - no surprise given that they went on an unintended hiatus in 2009 after drummer David Rogers-Berry [...]

Rare Berries = Whirlpool My Denver buddies over at Speaker Snacks have given me the privilege of being the first to present to you already their second release from their brand spanking new cassette/digital label Speaker Snacks Records . Appropriately enough this producer hails from Santa Monica, and goes by the name Rare Berries . He has seemed to master the subtle glitch ambient sound that leaves [...]

The so-called Relax series is the chillout compilation line of German dance/ house producers Blank & Jones , Café del Mar style. Relax Volume 6 also features a French language track for summer patios and Freixenet ads - a cover of Francoise Hardy’s Comment te dire adieu by Gallic schlager starlet Berry which brings to mind some all-too-fitting words by T-Bone Burnett: "We live in an age of music for people who don't like music. The record industry discovered some time ago that there aren't that many people who actually like music. For a lot of people, [...]

It's a huge day for the New York City House Scene, as NYC Legend, dGi artist, and supporter of B10 David Berrie has charted on Beatport for the first time. His Tech-House EP, Aztek/Underslang, demonstrates the house purist's venture into a darker, more Ibizesque style, a genuine rebuttal to the poppy-dance-music wave that has permeated the mainstream. Both of the tracks are available for streaming in pristine 320 kbps below. David is no stranger to Big10HouseMafia.com. Since our inception he has been providing us with free bootlegs and remixes [...]

Vincent Liben 's solo-album was championed on this blog in 2009. Tout va disparaitre was a great way for Liben to let out his inner unshaven, smoking French guy. One of the best songs on the album was Mademoiselle Liberté, a duet with the lovely Stephanie Croibien (see video HERE ). The song is also on the Musique Fantastique cd I compiled. As a teaser for the upcoming album (out in May), Vincent re-recorded Mademoiselle Liberté with none other than Berry . But this time, Liben sings the parts of Croibien, and Berry sings [...]

Is it just me or our Friday Mixtapes getting better by the week? I mean, for example, this week features the likes of Delta Spirit, Underworld, Yo La Tengo, Menomena, Passion Pit, Cold Cave, Toro Y Moi, and MacGruber'er Kristen Wiig. It doesn't get much better than that! Ok, so maybe it does, but that's for another week to prove. In the meantime, enoy the mix below. As always, it includes the best new mix of singles, remixes, and covers, along with mp3s from some up-and-comers you might want to check out. NEW Singles: [...]
