This is the 4th Flashback Countdown I've done and it might be my favorite so far! 1995 often slips by me when I'm thinking of great years for Alternative Music, but this countdown should serve as a reminder that it was a fantastic year. Every song is enjoyable and uncringeworthy. Oh it's also the Countdown's 3rd Birthday! Happy Birthday Appetite For Distraction Alternative Top 10 Countdown! I'm going to start having an image of one of the bands featured on the countdown each week, chosen at random. I've switched to a new RSS reader and it'll [...]

Blast from the past! Better Than Ezra at House of Blues Thursday 12/20/2012 is a post from Indie Houston - Music - Technology - Press - Independent - Media - Houston, Texas Better than Ezra will be playing Thursday at The House of Blues as part of a tour to promote a series of shows that they will be playing. Have'nt checked up on this band in a while, but while looking up some of their music videos on their website I found this gem of a song, Rosealia . If the name [...]

Karima Francis is one of the up-and-coming artists to watch out for in 2012. Her new album The Remedy is a collection of lyrically-poignant tracks with a great guitar sensibility. On the album, the singer shines the most on this cut. "Tonight" starts off sounding like a mid-90s' college modern rock track reminiscent of the Gin Blossoms or Better Than Ezra. However, it slowly builds up into a beautifully constructed song with a catchy chorus of deep yearning and amazing vocals that will make you want to sing this sound out loud. It feels like a great marriage between Ani DiFranco's [...]

It is impossible to review Better Than Ezra ’s show in Vacaville Saturday without acknowledging that halfway through their set, the ‘90s buzz band performed a medley of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Games,” Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” Gorillaz’ “Feel Good Inc.,” – the rap part – “White Wedding” by Billy Idol and the Rolling Stones’ “Shattered.” Yeah, that happened. The New Orleans band, which hasn’t had a commercial hit since 2005’s “Juicy,” but is better known for its ‘90s hits like “Good” and “Desperately Wanting,” rarely tours through California these days. This weekend they [...]
Papa Grows Funk returns with its most collaborative effort yet, as Needle in the Groove boasts a whopping three producers - including Louisiana legend Allen Toussaint - and a set of songs composed together as a group. The hope is that the album would take on an attendant house-party atmosphere, like a group of folks playing music as neighbors drift [...]
As a young teenager growing up in the greater suburbs of Chicago, my knowledge of Better Than Ezra's catalog started and ended with their 1993 breakthrough Deluxe , which didn't come to my attention until Elektra re-released the album in 1995 and it quickly went platinum on the strength of #1 Modern Rock single "Good". But just as quickly as I "discovered" Better Than Ezra they slipped off my radar in favor of the next light-alternative rock band to produce a well-written, flawlessly executed power-pop ditty that seemed to perfectly capture the American young-adult zeitgeist du jour. [...]

by Jeff Barringer - Staff Photographer Frat house favorites, New Orleans based Better Than Ezra managed to squeeze in a post- Christmas gig at ACL Live last night, plowing through a variety of hits that made them famous in the 90s'. Bringing along fellow Cajuns Cowboy Mouth to open, the show was just the thing to blast away the post-holiday blues. Click for pics of Better Than Ezra. Click for pics of Cowboy Mouth at ACL Live.
When You Find Out about Breaking Laces, I think you'll love their quirky and heartfelt pop music!

PHOTO CREDIT: Rick Olivier From L to R: Tom Drummond, Kevin Griffin and Michael Jerome Well, damn, I somehow missed this while poring through local listings. One of my most favorite bands that has managed to satisfy me for the past (gulp!) SIXTEEN years is going to be in town Friday night. Uh, yeah. Better Than Ezra is going to bring their ridiculously epic pop-alternative rock to Center Stage Friday night, May 13. You can get tickets beforehand for a mere $22 by visiting that little link. This is one of the very first shows I ever tried recording from the audience. It's interesting hearing just how rough some of those early recordings were! December 31st is the biggest night for live music of the year. An argument might be made for Halloween, but I'm not buying it. Your non-live-music-loving-friends don't say things like, "Halloween is the most anti-climactic day of the year" while you sit there and just snicker. We've been a little Phish heavy this week so let's take a look at how 24 other bands rang in 2011. Side Note: This was my first time using embedded images from setlist.fm and I must say it looks super slick. That site has really got it going on, [...]
