Photo By Aaron Booth It's been a bit longer between drinks for this little project, so the songs on this mixtape aren't all that fresh, but i think they all compliment eachother quite well. The third installment of "For We Are Young & Free" features artists such as Officer Parrot, Oliver Tank, Fishing, Flume, Voltaire Twins, Drunk Mums, Betty Airs, Lyke Giants, The Founds, Lucas Skinner, and Lower Spectrum. All rights to the tracks belong to the artists. [...]
Betty Airs are a fairly new band I’ve seen pop up on Write, Cook, Listen and We All Want Someone To Shout For . These dudes are a guitar rock band that has some great hooks and awesome melodies that sound like a riot. The video for “Juvenile” is just four dudes having some fun, apparently recorded on a cracked iPhone 3. If that is the case, maybe more bands should record on a cracked iPhone 3. This vid gets straight to the point. You can find “Juvenile” and the band’s first release, [...]

Foster the People's ubiquitous "Pumped Up Kicks" is catchy-as-hell Bubblegum Pop replete with whistling and dark lyrics about a (presumably) crazed teenager. It reminds me of Gus Van Sant's Elephant . Stream: Download: (right-click, save target as): Beat City Radio #570 Playlist: Peter Bjorn and John – Amsterdam (Writer’s Block) 2006 Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes – Home (Up From Below) 2009 Intelligence – Warm Transfers (Fake Surfers) 2009 Foster the People – Pumped Up [...]

I'll take great guitar rock over any other type of music any day of the week. A great guitar song that has pop tendencies, good riffs, and a sunny melody can't be beat. If your like me, then I think you're going to love Betty Airs . They're a four piece from Sydney, Australia who have just released their debut EP, Creepin' It Real . It's four songs of near perfect guitar rock that wouldn't have gotten lost in the '50s. The melodies and harmonies are soaked with feel good sunshine. If you don't like these [...]

Betty Airs - Jennifer's Enemy Pretty tough to believe that this hazy minor key jam comes from the new band for Darren Cross, formerly of ingeniously thrashy electronic/punk/popsters Gerling. Not that 'Jennifer's Enemy' is totally without some of dat musical schizophrenia: the transition from sepia wistfulness to anxious pulsation is fairly seamless, sure, but later in this track the ferocious crescendo into psych frenzy just totally invades. These dudes describe themselves as sounding like Neil Sedaka on PCP; pretty accurate, actually, especially considering the current of suppressed rage that runs under golden classix like [...]
