Here's bettysoo performing a wonderful version of her song "Whisper my name", some days ago in Austin.

I got hold of a copy of BettySoo’s after a recommendation from made by A Truer Sound in 2009, until now it’s only being available as an import or download but the smart folks at Proper have picked it up for a formal UK release today March 28th and the lady herself has plans to tour the UK in September. BettySoo’s third full length album (Let Me Love You, 2005; Little Tiny Secrets, 2007, Never the Pretty Girl EP, 2007) see’s her teaming up with legendary Americana musician and producer Gurf Morlix to produce her best [...]

Some interesting news on the Ray Davies collaboration project , he's recently recorded with Amy MacDonald, Paloma Faith, Mumford & Sons, Spoon and Frank Black. L.O.L.A. BettySoo's album " Heat Sin Water Skin " is a fantastic listen and judging by this unreleased track there's no let up in the quality control department - hope to see this on a future release. Kelsey Walden has made her début album available for free (be sure to leave a tip) through Noise Trade

I meant to do more blogging last week while I was on vacation in St. Petersburg, Florida, but the internet connection at the hotel was abysmal at best. So instead I did a lot more drinking. The above photo is from Dockside Dave's . Nothing like eating a half pound of fresh fried grouper, giant onion rings, and several beers on an outdoor patio on December 26. And then slipping into a food coma and napping on the beach. Anyhoo, here are a few more albums which I feel are [...]

Much like Kasey's two sentence reviews, I thought I'd bang out a couple of pieces that have been floating around in my Google Docs account in various forms of incompletion and combine them into one post instead of just deleting them. Sometimes it's hard to find something to say about every. single. cd you like, but I'll usually at least give it a shot. These are those shots: PETE BERNHARD - STRAIGHT LINE Pete Bernhard is one third of the phenomenal [...]

*** Well... The results are in from last night's Americana Honors and Awards Show, and the winners are Buddy Miller, Buddy Miller, Buddy Miller, Buddy Miller, Gurf Morlix, and Justin Townes Earle. Obviously, Buddy was the big winner on the night. He walked away with wins for "Artist of the Year," "Duo/Group of the Year" with his wife Julie Miller, "Album of the Year" for Written in Chalk (also with Julie), and "Song of the Year" for his duet with Patty Griffin called "Chalk." [...]

Good music is beeing released now. 2009 is allready turning out to be a fine year for quality music and songwriting. Eilen Jewell with her amazing album that is playing here nonstop, and Melody Gardot's wonderful major breakthrough (check the crispy vinyl edition!), Iggy is back, and then, and then what more... well, many, many, and only a few of them you have read about here on this blog, and it's a steady flow. Better than 2008, for sure. It's like that the artists seems to get even more inspired by [...]

Change is good. Sometimes, you just need a little shake-up to get things to how they always ought to have been. With Heat Sin Water Skin , BettySoo adds some welcome edge and grit to the heartbreaker ballads and bell-pure vocals she’s come to be known for. Teamed with seasoned producer Gurf Morlix , BettySoo has made a record worth sitting up and paying attention to. Her vocals are striking, the players strong, the sound gripping, and the lyrics compelling. Her first studio efforts ( Let Me Love You , 2005; Little Tiny Secrets , [...]
