mostly, i like the title of this post. well, that and the very idea of sending a musical love letter to everyone's favourite mid-90s indie movie outcast icon. (and if she wasn't your favourite, then you clearly were either running around in the wrong crowds or running around in diapers). i haven't really given too much thought to the wiener dog in recent years, and that just isn't right. she was stylish. she was smart. she was cool. she was completely deluded in the most awesome way possible, which was why, regardless of any disturbing moments in the movie, she [...]

This year I learned something very important. Now that September has passed, I think I should let you all know. September means college, and college means Beer Pong. That’s right. What does this have to do with you, you ask? Simple. At the end of each month, I will be posting a mixtape, basically of all the songs that had heavy airplay in my life during that month. Being as September means college, and college means Beer Pong, this is my OFFICIAL Beer Pong playlist. If you don’t have one yourself, [...]
So I've been pretty slack in posting here of late. This is because I'm simply not finding the time of late, between work giving me more hours (this is actually a good thing) and a ton of other things that I've currently got going on. For the indefinite future, posting will probably down to something like three or four posts a week or something. I'll write when I get time and have something to share. Tonight though, we've got a pretty lazy post. There's no stunning new music here, no tiny band you should be [...]

Beulah didn't quite put out enough B-sides for a separate album: there just aren't a lot of Beulah rarities out there (although they did release a tour-only CD of Yoko demos, which is worth seeking out, if only for the instrumental version of "Hovering"). But it's been a few months since we've put any Beulah MP3s on this site, so it seems time again. "All Points North" comes from the Score from Augusta CD single (which also contained "Maroon Bible," from their first album), released by Shifty Disco [...]

Within 30 seconds of first putting on this album, the horn section on the first track, No Radio , made me think of Beulah , but don't pigeon-hole the group yet. I think the strongest characteristic of Dirty On Purpose 's newest release, Hallelujah Sirens , is the wide spectrum of sound they lay down on it. From the horn section in the first track, to the soothing cello in the slower paced Lake Effect , even the varied instrumentation adds to the overall feel of the album. [...]
So in addition to the first day of classes, today will be my first day working at CD Central here in Lexington. I'm pretty pumped because, to quote The Futureheads, "this is the job that people die for." Here's hoping I don't screw it up! MP3: The Futureheads - First Day MP3: ...

Prior to their break-up in 2004, Beulah was one of the proudest staples of the Elephant Six Recording Collective . For the few who don't know, E6 are a group of American musicians who mainly are influenced by 60s and 70s psychedelic pop bands, with some notable being Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control. In 1996, Beulah saw their beginnings in Denver, Colorado in a very common way: members work together in office mail room, find they have similar music interests, start a band. The rest is history. Beulah initially recorded a new song every six [...]

Happy long weekend! Box.net is...weird. But hey, I'll manage. Since we can all use it, I'm not going to do the zip files unless I hear a lot of complaints. So yeah. Anyway, themes! I chose "Country-ish songs by non-country bands." It would ahve been more fun to see what others would do, but this'll work. --- I miss Beulah. This song, " I'll Be Your Lampshade ," fits another future theme of mine - songs that [...]
